The Last Jedi Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (VIII)

Do you guys think we will ever get a
projected luke
figure?

100% chance it will be made, even people who don't like the movie like the design. I'm not a fan of the offerings out there for Luke, but I like the look he had for this scene. Say what you want about TLJ, but I was shocked by how physically good Hamill looked in that movie, especially in this version. I’d be thrilled if they used the headsculpt for
a flashback version
too.

Reading this gives me hope.

Thank you.

What did you folks think of the film not showing Luke's reaction to Han's death? TBH I didn't think about it until I saw it listed as a complaint, that Luke just found out that his best friend is dead and they cut away.

Considering that it would just give Luke one more thing to feel horribly guilty about, I was OK with them not showing his reaction to Han's death. Maybe the novelization will show it.

I noticed right away and it annoyed the hell outta me. Seriously, it's like Rian Johnson knew what we all wanted to see and decided against it because it was too "obvious" or something....I dunno....just so many missed opportunities.

Same, I thought that would be a possible reason for Luke getting back in the fight, but at the very least I wanted a reaction or bit of mourning from him.

Yeah, i feel like Johnson on many occasions did things different just for the sake of going against the fans.
I know that this is probably not true, but it feels like it to me.

The more i think about it the more im disliking what TLJ did with Luke.
I just have so much problems with the simple fact that the very same guy who put his faith into a tiny piece of Good in Darth Vader, is supposed to be the same guy who thought about killing a lost Boy.

I mean if the movie would have done more to show me the darkness in Ren then i could maybe get behind it, but Kylo Ren feels like a Child who simply throws a tantrum...not some super evil guy who is consumed with Darkness.

Yeah I see what you mean, it felt like when writing it Johnson's was thinking "well people expect this, so I will do the opposite for the hell of it.". It's incredibly frustrating and just seems worse when you think about it.

It felt wrong to me initially, but I think his scene in the Falcon makes up for it. He doesn't have to verbalize his grief; you see it when he takes the dice from the cockpit.

Seeing him sitting, slumped over in the Falcon (before R2 picks him up) wasn't enough? His walk through the Falcon represented his mourning.

I’m a bit more upset by the fact that Leia’s arc wasn’t in part informed by Han’s death.

Yeah, Luke might have benefitted from a moment where Rey blames Luke’s absence for Han’s death, but overall, his reaction is sort of implied by the fact that he doesn’t change his mind about staying away until the end.

Nope, it wasn’t, he didn’t even interact with Chewie in any meaningful about it in the movie, including this scene were he sneaks past a very old friend to avoid talking to him.

I fully expect IX to open with Hux actively planning a coup.

I seriously thought he was nodding to those two Stormtroopers as indication to them to frag Kylo in the command center.

As far as Luke's reaction to Han's death I thought it was handled very well. What'd people want? Gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, and wailing cries? Hamill did a wonderful job portraying deep and profound grief in his line "Where's Han?" and in his physical acting aboard the Falcon.

As well as bringing Leia the dice from the Falcon, and going after Kylo with it, with the "see you around, kid" and telling him that if he struck him down in anger, he'd always be with him, 'just like his father'. He could see how killing his father was still impacting Ben, and hit him right with it.

I think Luke's reaction upon hearing that Kylo killed Han wouldn't be one of grief for Han, but agony over knowing that Luke indirectly caused his friend's death. He'd blame himself for Kylo turning to the Dark Side and probably run for the nearest cliff. If anything, it would convince him that he made the right choice and should stay away.

And when R2 started showing the hologram, I thought for a moment it might be one of Han urging Luke to come and help out the Resistance. That would have been a way to get him into the movie. But nope...

Best to show the internal reality of grief than to over emote.

Well said.

Mark Hamill is welcome to his opinion, but I'm going to have to disagree with him on this one. I LOVED what they did with Luke in this film. It was not only the best part of this movie, it was one of the best parts of any Star Wars film. And I thought this was far and away Hamill's best performance out of his four films. I wouldn't change a thing.

His role resembles what Zack Snyder was trying to do with Batman in BvS, but where it was handled extremely poorly there, here the story of a fallen and broken hero that needs to fight for his redemption is executed brilliantly.

It does show us his reaction.

Look at Hamill's performance as he asks where Han and in the next scene back on the island. Johnson doesn't beat us over the head with it and Hamill does it perfectly.

Anyone else think that Lucasfilm should consider a few Luke movies set during the years just before Ben Solo's betrayal?

Are you referring to Hamill's comments at Celebration where he says when he first met Johnson he disagreed with nearly everything he was planning for Luke in TLJ?

I guess so. I haven't been following it closely. Everything I got was from hearsay.

Agree 100%. Where some may see Luke in this film as a betrayal, I see a brilliant way to honor the character in ways I didn't even consider previously. This was so much better than just making him some super amazing Jedi Master with few flaws.

I can see why he felt that way, and I am inclined to agree but I think the movie's new characterization won me over by the end.

So does Mark, now. He only didn't upon reading the script, he changed his mind through filming.

We know this.
