Marvel’s First Family Casting Thread

I like Liev Schrieber for the role, personally. The thing is, Ben Grimm needs to sound gruff, tough and working class. Rogen doesn't quite fit that bill. He's got a deep voice, sure, but I think he's gonna sound more likeable than tough.

Ben Grimm kind of needs to kind of have that edge, where he could be your best friend shouting you drinks in the bar, or the guy who starts a bar room fight haha

I would like Aamir Khan or Hrithik Roshan to be Reed Richards. Aamir Khan would be incredible. He’s an absolutely brilliant actor

The best fan cast I've read by far for Ben is Channing Tatum.

For Reed, Jeremy Strong works. In Succession he looks like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. He'd be a good Mr. Fantastic.

Someone suggested a comic actress for Sue, and thats a solid option. I could get behind Kate McKinnon.

Then bring in a Twitch streamer or Tik Tocker for Johnny to bring in the youths and call it a day.

I dunno if Tatum has the voice TBH. I do like him as a voice actor, but his voice comes across a bit higher in pitch than I think you'd want Thing to have. I'd love a Ben Grimm with, like, Patrick Warburton levels of grit to his voice.

I could see Nick Offerman being great but it would come down to how well he does the relateable, average joe accent. I've also seen people suggest Danny McBride which could work.

Otherwise, here's a wildcard that I saw someone suggest... Jon Hamm. Dude has a great voice and he's actually very good at comedic roles. Also I think there's something funny about him being a very handsome man before he is turned into The Thing.

Otherwise, I'm for Liev Scrieber, David Harbour or anyone else with a great, deep voice.

I think Channing Tatum and John Cena are poor choices for Ben simply because they aren't strong actors. They have the surface level look of an athlete like pre-transformation Ben, but that is superficial and Ben is much more than that. You need an actor who display Ben's trauma and pain as well as his mannerisms, they need to play the heart of the team and all his complexities. Tatum and Cena would only be able to do his comedic side, and Ben is so much more than that. Getting them would have Ben be the same as Drax - a funny character with minimal depth. Ben is more than his voice and comedic moments.

All of the team needs to be played by really great actors if we want this film to be as good as it should be. Actors who can carry the MCU going forward.

I still think the best option for Sue is Anne Hathaway. She walks that fine line between being caring and nurturing to also being assertive and strong.

That's also another great choice.

She could do it, but how would she look with blonde hair? Because I do want Sue to have blonde hair. I want them to look at somewhat like they look in the comics. You can get away with changing more minor characters, but to me these are the four most iconic figures in the Marvel Universe (or close to it).

Changing their appearances would be like having a blonde haired Superman. You could get away with it, now, but only because there have been so many different versions of the character that have already been done over the years.

Sue Storm\Hilary Duff
If she's a good enough actress, I could see it. I'm not that familiar with her work, but she has a lot of experience. But maybe she should take a role where she gets to show off those legs. Sue's uniform has long pants.

yeah i see what you mean. Liev is less likeable compared to Rogen though. I think Rogen has a higher chance of being taught how to be more intimidating - more so than Liev can act to be more likeable.

those actually work. Especially McKinnon. PewDiePie or one of the Paul brothers as Johnny lol

Thanks for your post. It inspired me to come up with an even BETTER choice than Seth Rogen (which I believe am the first one on the internet to suggest).

Yes, get ready for what is most likely the perfect casting for Benjamin Grimm.

He IS a New Yorker.
Former footballer.

He CAN do comedy and probably drama.
And is known for playing blue collar, average joe, likeable characters.
AND he has the gruffy, VOICE for it.
The only problem is he isnt Jewish.

The guy?

Kevin James.

for some reason whenever i thought of this character of a jock and blur collar guy i thought James. But because of his age, i automatically said no. I can envision this working FANTASTICALLY well. Plus him being older and contrasting it with a younger teenage Johnny will have its advantages as he can play a mentor role.

I'm not opposed to the Ben & Reed actors being 50 something from the get go. But if you are going with a Grown Ups cast member, I'd bring in the bigger star, better actor and Real Life Jew Adam Sandler.

Heck no to Kate McKinnon. She always plays an exaggerated caricature in everything she's in, whether it's SNL or other films. As Sue she would simply look like she's doing another SNL spoof skit. And she also looks older than her 37 years and rather matronly.

I'd want someone like Lily James for the role.

just because someone was in SNL or is/was a comedian does not mean they cannot act seriously and convinvingly. See Robin Williams and Jim Carrey and a plethora of other comedians and SNL alumni

Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso could be a great Ben Grimm. He acts a lot in his role like how I picture Ben Grimm. Though he‘s british

there is an actress playing Pamela Anderson in the film Pam and Tommy and i suggest her for a potential Sue Storm, Lily James. If she doesnt get the part of Sue, she can be a candidate for MCU Emma Frost or even Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat..
