Marvel Solicitations For June 2008

I didn't give a **** because it was Pete Wisdom. If it was good, that's even better for Excalibur.

But even if you did give a ****, that **** was unreadable.

I watch some British TV shows. I might've been able to understand some stuff.

That whole Wisdom MAX series seemed like it was trying way too hard to be something it wasn't.

What was/wasn't it?

Also, looking at Cornell's TV credits, I've actually watched quite a lot of his work on British TV.

I felt like it was trying to reimagine Pete Wisdom as some tripped out, Vertigo-esque occultist. It basically seemed like a poor imitation of Hellblazer.
Ick. The guy's a British spy who's a bit of a dick; that's a working formula right there. Why **** with it?

The book wanted so badly to be published by Vertigo, you could tell.

Haha, I bet. Vertigo tended to skew toward the mystical for a long time.

Now it's skewing toward the indie, "slice of life" type books.

I like both, but I'd like to see more mystical books like Sandman again. I like The Vinyl Underground, which follows around a group investing occult murders in London. It's not near on par with Sandman or Swamp Thing, but it's getting better with each issue and I find it enjoyable.

I bought the first issue of The Vinyl Underground but never read it. I should probably look at it someday.

Hey, I just realized that Thor: Ages of Thunder is the only Thor book solicited for June. Are they planning for Coipel to be behind again by then? If so, hooray for some foresight, finally.

The Vinyl Underground started out good enough, and it's only gotten better. This new arc is very good so far.

People went crazy over that Pete Wisdom Paul Cornell series. You know, the one that if you weren't British, you just didn't get or give a ****.
I'm not British, and I liked it; it was quite enjoyable, although on one or two occasions it got a bit too esoteric.

I'll be getting:

I'll be getting:

CLANDESTINE #5 (of 5)
AVENGERS/INVADERS #2 (of 12) - A Mike Perkins variant cover is cool (surprised he's now big enough to do variant covers of his own).
CAPTAIN AMERICA #39
FANTASTIC FOUR #558 - way to spoil the current MA arc, solicit guys.
SECRET INVASION: RUNAWAYS/YOUNG AVENGERS #1 (of 3) - the more YA stuff, the better.
CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI: 13 #2
MS. MARVEL #28 - I hope the SI crossover gets more people to read this enjoyable book.
INCREDIBLE HERCULES #118
YOUNG AVENGERS PRESENTS #6 (of 6) - that solicit perhaps goes a bit overboard on "she wants"; if need be, they could both use the name (although TPTB seem to want to give him another codename, so there's seemingly no editorial conflict at the moment); I mean, DC has four or five guys called Green Lantern.
UNCANNY X-MEN #499 - potentially my last issue, with hack and thief Greg Land doing the next issue.
X-MEN: LEGACY #213
X-FACTOR #32
CRIMINAL #4

Maybe:

AVENGERS FAIRYTALES #4 (of 4)
SECRET INVASION #3 (of 8) - I may have to read this just because I'm reading several of the tie-ins on their own.
MIGHTY AVENGERS #15
SECRET INVASION: WHO DO YOU TRUST? - mainly for the Agents of Atlas
SHE-HULK #30 - Big Herc fan.

Yeah, I'll probably pick up that She-Hulk issue and call it Incredible Herc #118 1/2 in my brain.

It just occurred to me that Captain Britain & MI: 13 is totally gonna crash and burn in sales. That makes me sad. :(

The Black Knight's not gonna appear for another ten years after this, if at all.

And? You'd rather him appear in a crappy book that won't sell than wait for a good project to happen?

He appears infrequently enough as it is. I'm worried people are gonna forget he even exists and then, 20 years down the line, some upstart creator's gonna be like, "Hey, remember this loser?" Then I'll have to hunt that ass clown down and eviscerate him, and it'd be a whole thing, and it'd just suck.

I thought Criminal vol. 2 was only going to be a three issue miniseries. But I'm pretty pumped that it's going to be longer than that.
