Marvel Solicitations For June 2008

What? If he does a better job with ideas than the actual execution, wouldn't he better suited for the editorial gig?

As for Loeb, he needs to be outright fired. He has nothing to contribute anymore--his writing sucks and his ideas suck. He may have been great once upon a time, but right now, he's a hack.

:pal:

Whatever. You're not long for this forum anyway, so it's not even worth it.

Bendis writes more like a businessman, and less like a...writer.

Don't pass out, but I'm about to compliment him.

His IDEAS are good. He's got some very fresh takes on old ideas.

However, his follow through SUCKS. The dialogue, pacing, storylines and fight scenes are HORRIBLE.

He would make a better editor or co-writer.

Isn't that the general consensus? I have no problem praising the guy for his cool ideas. It's just the execution that generally sucks, although not all the time.

I agree with all these sentiments. Even said them a few times.

I just get tired of every writer overusing the retcon to create their legacy. Only a rare few can do it competently, and Bendis usually isn't one.

I'm a Bendis praiser myself, but the one thing that i dont like bout him is his tendency to make long drawn out arcs, with slow pacing. Secret Invasion's gonna be 8 issues long man! Thats 8 whole months we gotta wait before this is over and let's not forget the inevitable delays, so we may be looking at 10 months. I think this is one of the reasons people didnt like House of M. I enjoyed House of M because i read it all at once in the TPB form but man, does this really need to be so long?

With Bendis writing and Yu drawing, there won't be any delays.

Yeah, one thing I doubt anyone could sanely accuse Bendis himself of is delays. The man's got full-blown scripts and plans nailed down months--sometimes years--in advance. He just gets paired up with slow-as-**** artists, and he seems to be one of the slow artist apologizers who keep telling us the waits are worth it.

Ugh, lienil Yu. I was not happy with his work on new avengers. I really hope he stepped his game up for this project cause he doesnt seem like the kind of artist you'd want for a huge event like this. His artwork is too gritty and messy for something like this.

I love Yu. He's a phenomenal artist. Has been since he hit it big on Wolverine all those years back.

I would of liked a superior artists as well, Yu draws like he's drunk.

Hmm, I'll have to see his pencils without inking or coloring before I decide that, but he does have a very scratchy looking sort of style. It's not as bad as some of you are exaggerating though.

Bottom line: he knows how to tell a story very well, and I can understand everything that's happening in every comic I've read from him. Those are the two biggest tests a penciler has to pass, and Yu does so with flying colors. Everything else is just stylistic choices.

Exactly. The gritty and grimey quality to his work was a perfect fit for the tone of New Avengers. Add Dave McCaig's colors into the mix, and the book is worth buying for the art alone.

He's not a bad storyteller by any means, but I couldnt tell what the hell was going on in his fight scenes in new avengers. I felt like i had to stare at the panels to decipher who was hitting who and how. Read #37 and you'll see what i mean.

Yu drew the "c**t punt", and for that alone I will always love his art.

That Hulk: Raging Thunder looks cool!

Havent seen Thundra since Avengers/JLA...

Raging Thunder was a bad title for it. I got all excited that we'd see the first new Hulk/Thor fight in, I think, a decade or more. But instead it's just stupid Thundra. :(

Hulk vs Thor would have made more sense, yes.

Im spoiling for a New Thor vs Hulk fight, or Thor vs Sentry...:word:

Yeah, I really want to see Thor hop back into the Marvel universe proper. Meet Hercules, learn of Tarene's condition (still not calling her dead until "KIA" is over), finish his business with Tony, fight the Hulk or the Sentry, etc. He's too big a character to remain isolated in his own title.

Is there even a need for Sentry now that Thor is back? I always felt like Sentry was supposed to be Thor's replacement while he was gone. I dunno, no offense to any Sentry fans, i've yet to see the relevance of Sentry in the Marvel universe.

Double edged sword. Do you really want Bendis writing Thor :csad:

Yeah, but as long as JMS keeps him awesome in his own series, I can probably stand it.

He's become a Thor-wannabe since joining the Avengers, but really he's supposed to be basically the Superman of the Marvel universe. A really addle-brained version of Superman. Really, as of right now, he doesn't serve much of a role in the Marvel universe except as the super-big gun that jams a lot--no one's ever really sure when he'll actually use the considerable power at his disposal. He's basically a super-powerful wild card. Granted, that's basically the Hulk's place, but the Hulk's kind of out of sorts at the moment. Also, the Sentry is more easily manipulable than Thor.

"Super-big gun that jams a lot".LOL. Thats a perfect metaphor for Sentry man. Yet so true. As for being Marvel's superman? If anybody, i think Captain America is Marvel's Superman.
