Marvel Films Marvel Studios' Armor Wars (aka A War Machine Story)

I prefer to see the Masters of Evil first anyway. It makes you appreciate the Thunderbolts more later on when you realise they were all a team of villains beforehand. Give us the likes of Tiger Shark, Whirlwind, evil Black Knight, etc.
Would it even be possible to have a Thunderbolts twist? Apart from people Googling every name nowadays, would they have to keep the casting under wraps? And even if they manage that, how would you not make Songbird instantly recognizable as Screaming Mimi given that neither covers their face? Would you just have the audience know from the start?

I did once consider using the original team but with different aliases to make it less obvious. But I'm not sure if that'd be worth it
Or have them all appear with the personas of other heroes. Like, have Melissa Gold apear as "Motormouth", Karla Sofen as "Doctor Spectrum" or "Captain Universe", Erik Josten under the alias "Tom Foster" or "Raz Malhotra" as the new "Goliath" or "Giant Man", Abner Jenkins as "Stingray" or "Darkhawk" or "American Son" or "Hornet", Paul Ebersol as "Deathlok", "Cardiac" or "Victorious", etc.

It would have to be a slightly different twist or a twist only for the people within the show. Maybe they can have their own villain reveal song to announce it was Zemo all along.

They probably couldn't do the twist today. If anything they would probably lean into it as a selling point for the marketing.

So will we have appearances from existing MCU characters or will we mostly see newbies making their debut?

Well besides Rhodey I'm definitely expecting Justin Hammer. Besides that who knows. We might see some familiar faces but I'm not expecting most of the important players in the actual "armor wars" to be established characters.

I want the likes of Stilt Man, Controller, the Raiders, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Stingray, Beetle etc. But are they really going to introduce all of these only to be neutralised? Also, how would Rhodey even create that neutraliser pack that Tony did in the comics since he's not an engineer? He doesn't even have the knowledge. He'd have to ask someone else to do it for him.

I'm not sure the resolution has to necessarily be the same in the show as in the comics. But you're right, Rhodey isn't an engineer and probably needs some tech help from someone. Though I guess there are some options for that. Could he get help from
- Military R&D people?
- Stark Industries through contact with Pepper?
- Riri Williams?
- His niece Lila Rhodes?
- Ho Yinsen's daughter?

Since Feige and company already cast Riri Williams - I was kinda expecting Dominique Thorne to show up as the aerospace engineer in WandaVision - I would put her in the lead to be the gal in the chair for Armor Wars.

There aren't all that many armored types in the MCU so we will probably be meeting some of them for the first time in AW. Justin Hammer is an obvious choice, and I could see him being Mach 5 in a Thunderbolts film. Both Spidey and Vulture are using Stark technology, but I don't see Rhodey attacking Peter and both characters are likely tied up with the Sony films. Punching Pepper is probably off the table as well.

I could see Rhodey traveling around the globe fighting armored types while trying to avoid causing international incidents. There was a rumor that Big Hero 6 was being rebooted into the MCU, and I could see Rhodey fighting a less compassionate version of Baymax in Japan. You could also have him fighting the Dynamo in Russia, Titanium Man in Eastern Europe, Ultimo in China, and a couple of other C listers like Melter and Unicorn sprinkled throughout the rest of the world before he finally faces down Ezekiel Stane in the US of A.

Any of those in the Iron Man movies would've been better than what we got in Iron Man 2 and 3. Iron Man 2 should've been fighting a proper Crimson Dynamo or Titanium Man. Or Iron Man 2 should've had the combo of Whiplash, Blizzard and Melter since they were having Justin Hammer.

I agree that Rourke's Whiplash/Dynamo mashup in 2 was turrible. 3 was a lot better, but I would have definitely preferred to see specialized armored folks instead of the glowy Extremis people. Hopefully Armor Wars will give us the armored combat that was mostly lacking in the Iron Man trilogy.

Eh, I feel like you'd either have Hammer as Detroit Steel, or Abner Jenkins as Beetle/Mach. Or maybe Janice Lincoln as Beetle/Mach if you want to cast a woman for whatever reason.

I'm really hoping the series can answer these questions in 6 episodes.

1) Rhodey's commitment to military service. He's a colonel. Will he retire or be promoted to a General? Does he feel like still being a full-time Avenger now that Stark is gone?

2) His injury. It's been years and sure he has the leg brace but he's gotta have some trauma (that wasn't explored in the last two Avenger flicks).

3) What makes Rhodey tick? Family life? Girlfriend? Surely he doesn't devote himself 100% to the military. Then again he's a public figure so that's gotta make private/personal relationships kinda difficult.

Thunderbolt Ross threatened a court martial for Rhodey in Infinity War.

He was wearing his uniform in episode 1 (ceremonial I think it was though). I'd like a follow-up on that.

I would assume that the threat of court martial by Thunderbolt Ross didn't happen due to the battle against Thanos.

Honestly, I kind of assumed it was mostly a bluff anyway. This was several years after Civil War, with the Avengers led by Tony Stark. If he had actually been able or willing to demand absolute obedience under genuine threat of legal doom, I would expect that to have exploded *way* beforehand.

I read on the reddit sub for Spoils that either Armor Wars is due to start filming or at least they'd have the writers hired.

He will appear in episode 6 at least minimum for another talk with Rhodey. I doubt we will see Warmashine suit here but I think there is room for an after credit scene to promote the Cheadles series.

Sam, Rhodey, Carol, Monica (depending on her skill set by the time Captain Marvel 2 arrives), Wanda (maybe), White Vision (maybe), Strange, Thor or Jane Thor ......that's some significant air power for any future Avengers lineup, probably moreso than Infinity War and End Game. It depends on what happens though with Wanda at the end of Dr. Strange 2, White Vision for whenever he shows up next (possibly here in Armor Wars) and how powerful Monica is going to be by Captain Marvel 2. There's potential for any future Avengers lineup to have significant firepower in the air if Monica gets most of the powers she has in the comics.

So, they're supposedly set to start filming this month. Any news?

I hope we get some news on which armoured villains we might see. Of course I'd like a few surprises too. I wish they established more armoured foes in the MCU before though. There don't really seem to be too many of those in comparison to the comics.

I def wonder if they might create some for War Machine or if they'll prefer to borrow from Iron Man's rogue gallery.
