Marvel vs Capcom 2 on XBLA and PSN

Looks the PS3 users will have to wait until August 13th to play the game.

Capcom sent out a little love letter letting us know that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will hit, claw, blast and spin-kick the PS3's PlayStation Network on August 13 for $15.

The release will occur two weeks after the XBLA version. The aforementioned date is also the one associated with the rumored retail pack for PlayStation 3, which costs $5 more, but allegedly includes a DVD with exclusive wallpapers, an 8-page manual, one month of free access to Marvel Digital Comics and 2,000 Capcom Unity points. We're checking with Capcom to see if it can confirm this now, as the publisher previously stated it "had no comment at this time."

Awesome, just..awesome

Personally I'd trade the retail pack if it meant getting it two weeks earlier.

I think the retail pack is a waste of material...and like Teardrop said, I'd rather play the game earlier than buy it retail.

Considering the only way I can currently play this game is through an emulator, spending $100 on a used copy, or burn an unlicensed CD-r in my Dreamcast, I'd definitely look forward to getting this game through PSN and being able to play it online.

The only drawback though, is that I bet it'll still have a crappy soundtrack. I have an unofficial modified version of the game called "MVC2: Accurate Remix" that has a much better sound track, and it kicks ass. With a little luck though, MAYBE Capcom will be kind enough to let us use custom tracks...

You can play custon tracks on any game on the 360 at any time.

Both incredibly helpful and insightful since he said he would be playing the game through PSN.

Timstuff, it was confirmed awhile back that the PS3 version will support custom soundtracks as well.

yeah that was one of the first things we learned after the game was announced. Even so, Im going to stick with the original soundtrack. Its a classic for this game...lol

That's great to hear. Its a shame that the PS3 itself doesn't support custom soundtracks and game companies have to include an option into their games. Capcom did it with SFIV and now MvsC2. I hope Capcom keeps adding it for all their fighting games.

I didnt even realize that SFIV had custom soundtracks

There's no reason to be a "female dog" about it. I didn't know. So take it as you will. Sell your PS3 and get a 360 so you can play it earlier and with noncrappy music. Turn down the music in the opinion menu and put in a cd into a player. The only thing my PS3 is good for is playing my Blu-rays. Every game I've ever played on it that isn't on the 360 as well, sucked.

You didn't know? It was literally one of the first things said in the very post you quoted. And seriously, keep the fanboy nonsense out of here. You want to discuss the game or give some actual helpful advice that's cool, and by all means do so, but nobody cares about which console you prefer or which one you use for what.

It is kinda sad that the game's gonna be on later for PS3. But at least you guys are getting that retail thing. Chin up!

Capcom Has Its Marvel VS Capcom 2 Mixtape Covered
By Mike Fahey, 1:20 PM on Tue Jul 21 2009

Capcom shows off the cover to its Marvel VS Capcom 2 hip-hop mixtape today, with a limited-edition vinyl version of the soundtrack up for grabs at the San Diego Comic-Con this week.

As we mentioned back in June, Capcom has teamed up with some of hip-hop's greatest talents to produce a downloadable mixtape, replacing the game's original jazzy soundtrack with something a little easier to fight to. Today they've revealed the cover art for the disc, available in printer-friendly downloadable form over at the Capcom Blog, in case any of you are still hooked on reading your music off of archaic silver discs.

And for those of you even more archaic, Capcom will be offering an extremely limited-edition vinyl copy of the mixtape at its fighting games panel at Comic-Con on Friday from 2:30-3:30 in Room 5AB, noting that it could also be used as a bonus for those buying items at the Capcom booth. Man, my Comic-Con swag battle plan gets more and more complicated every minute.

I think im gonna hold off on purchasing the game. I still play my DC version and just dont see the need to get it again at this point. I guess if i get a craving for some online play ill download this.

IGN has posted up reviews for the XBLA and PSN versions of MVC2

XBLA: http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/100/1008091p1.html (8.7)

PSN: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/100/1008298p1.html (9.0)

Here's the video review: http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/14269801/vs-capcom-next-gen/videos/marvel2_vdr_072709.html

The difference in score from the two versions is that, according to IGN, the XBLA version has "few frame hiccups on character selection and at the start of matches that don't appear on PS3" and the preference of the default controllers. It is IGN, though, so take with a grain of salt, though it's not a gamebreaking difference

So does it come out at midnight tonight?

I hope the difference in score doesn't take the controller into account. There isn't a move or combo you can pull off in SFIV with any other controller that i cant with the 360's controller.

I don't know if it was, but I believe it was mentioned. Also, it wouldn't mean that the game is unplayable with said controller, just one controller is noticeable easier to use over the other. With 2D fighters most people generally agree that the PS3 controller is the lesser of two evils.
