Mass Effect 3 - - - - Part 13

I realized the Hammerhead shoots further than enemies can hit you so I just stayed out of the weapons range of most enemies.

Though I thought the vehicle had a better showing in Overlord. The Geth turret sequence probably being its best moment.

The controls and mechanics are pretty damned clunky and its a much stiffer game than ME2/3 but the main story missions are all pretty damned good and its definitely worth doing so at least once just to smile when Garrus lets off "Commander Shepard?" at their first meeting just knowing where that goes.

The first game is full of retroactive moments like that, which is pretty neat.

But man if the Citadel isn't the most boring place in ME to me. The Presidium is just an awful place that is in-universe a boring and placid locale. I think I liked the Citadel in 2 the most because the ward you visited felt shady and there was no Presidium.

That and the Mako sidequests are so awful.

But like I said, its worth doing at least once.
Yeah, I loved the story of ME1, especially Saren as a villain & the gameplay was fun but not near ME2. Would be cool to see all those retro moments again. Must say I loved the ME1 Presidium atmosphere & missed it in the sequel's Citadels. Felt like a real galactic political & entertainment hub.

Not a fan of exploring mostly barren uniform looking planets but do think random exploration should have been continued in ME2 onwards, just spiced up with variety & activity.

It was a chore going back after the second game. The story was still awesome but the shooty bits just didn't hold up as well. It felt to me like the mechanics in the later games had more 'weight' to them than the first one but it's only really apparent when you replay the original.

What this meant for me was that I just rushed through the main missions and didn't worry so much about all the side missions and wandering around in the Mako.
I always think I'll go back to all these classic old games but I'm so far behind on other great games that I rarely do nowadays. More often I watch cutscenes & gameplay sections on youtube when in the middle of other stuff.

Are you saying someone's said they're going to? Or are you saying you want to see them do that?

Because they did do that - in Mass Effect.

A brief paragraph discription isn't gonna cut it. I'd like to experience the past first hand, and influence it directly. What we got in ME was akin to Obi Wan telling Luke about his father, then later you saw how it all went down in detail.

I ordered the entire Mass Effect trilogy from Amazon. Never played these games before. Which one of them do you guys think is the best?

Most would say the one in the middle. They are all good IMO. But that's the one most would pick. well those that aren't mad that it changed so much from the first installment. enjoy plaything them it's a cool series.

ME2 by far. It had a great story, GREAT characterization ande squad members. It got rid of several unnecesary and cumbersome things from ME1 and the combat improved immensely. ME3 was more of the same but to me it didnt have quite as interesting a cast of supporting characters and wasnt as big a leap from ME2 as 2 was from 1.

btw, what system did you get it for?

ps3

Personally I think the story and "atmosphere" or what you wanna call it is better in the first game, but it also has the worst combat of all games. I really enjoy the inventory and looting mechanics, which is pretty much non-existent in the other games.
Nr 2 probably has the best combat and characters.
Nr 3 is similar to 2 but the combat is way too easy and more "linear" in the conversations, it does however, have some really great character and action moments. But you need to have the first 2 in your resumé to fully enjoy them.

2 is probably overall the best for its time. 1 has a great story & main villain. Gameplay-wise the jump is biggest from 1 to 2 & the action was revolutionised. I also preferred having 12 great squadmates to 6. ME3 is excellent all the way through though, although they could have done a lot more with the ending (2 had an awesome ending). ME3 multiplayer is great too if it counts.

Just grabbed ME1 from the PSN. Time to do a trilogy run, and finally get my second ME 3 run started. It's still dl'ing though, and got some places to go. So won't even be starting it til later tonight. Even though I've played 2 & 3, ME 1 was the only 360 exclusive I really, really, wanted. So I'm eager to finally be able to play it, and experience the entire story.

I'd rate them in this order; me3, then 2, then 1

Each installment improved upon the previous one in my opinion

There's only that one and Leviathan so far.

The Prothean one is also kind of story DLC, quite short though.

Mass Effect 2 is easily the best. Both the first and third have too many problems to be on the same level as ME2, let alone surpass it.

2, IMHO is Great... But something about 3 just outdoes it. Then again I never had the issues with 3 that some claimed to have.

I cant really think of anything that 3 does better than 2. It was comparable, but I dont think it surpassed it in anyway. I guess maybe it added more options in terms of levelling your class, but thats about all I can think of that was an improvement.

The biggest flaw for me with 3, except the ending, is definitely the conversations. Pretty much the fact that much of your dialogue is automated and my Shepard says a lot of things that Shepard from 1 & 2 never would. So it doesn't feel like my own Shepard anymore.

I just liked the over all tone of 3 a bit more.

I really liked 2, since your decisions directly affected people you knew and fought beside you, rather than the more political choices of 1 ("save/kill a bug queen for the good of the galaxy" or "save the council/let the biggest gun in the fleet's arsenal get destroyed"). There was still some of that in 2 (which was also a lot more morally ambiguous, since you were aiding and abetting a terrorist organization...who may have been the best equipped to handle the Reapers), but by and large it was the 12 guys in your squad that had specific repercussions based on what you did or didn't do. Seeing your squaddies make it through unscathed or drop like flies was involving and interesting...the random turian crew and marine pilot in 3--not so much.

If you're referring to the ending, that's certainly part of it, but it's not specifically what I'm talking about. Mass Effect 3 has major problems in both story and gameplay that run deep throughout the entirety of the game.

Just out of curiosity, which part does everyone seem to lose someone during 2? Given I've only ran through the final assault twice, and play it on normal, but never have lost anyone. Is it when they're with you, or when you send them off alone?

It's during cutscenes. If you made wrong choices assigning your squadmates, by either sending unloyal members to do jobs or characters who are completely wrong for a job (like sending Grunt into the vents), someone will die.

The only time I've had someone die is Legion on my first playthrough, I sent him into the vents while an unloyal Miranda led the second team. Due to Miranda's s***y leadership, Legion got shot in the face while trying to close the doors. :(
