That first TDKR ME3 trailer was amazing, phenomenal work there.

*taps foot waiting for Omega trailer* :/

just curious......who here is kind of sick of the current ME set of games and is ready to move on to ME 4 and beyond, with a new protagonist and new storyline?

I know I am. I'm not even that excited for the Trilogy Pack ( although it would be nice to get all the games in one pack, + ME 1 for the PS3 ).

Not sick, because I'm definitely up for Omega and the other DLC they've got coming up but I would go so far as to say I feel like they've wrung out pretty much everything they could out of the whole Alliance Navy/Specter motif. I think Omega's shaping up to be awesome but I do agree with you that I am ready for a totally new character and story. I would have been disappointed if ME4 had ended up starring a Shepard stand-in so I'm glad that they've said they're going to go for an all new protagonist that won't slot into those things.

I think Bioware has a good chance with the new protagonist choice they made...

I'm probably not as fatigued with the series as most having played all 3 for the 1st time quite recently. That said after all the campaign DLC for ME3 it will be a good time to start with a new character.

I suppose I am in the minority but I don't think Shepard's story should be over. I finally got around to playing Leviathan.....I really think that after the DLC, there needs to be one final expansion. People can say that the Reapers cannot be beaten without the Catalyst all they want, but after seeing the power of the Leviathan....BW is considerably changing the amount of power that the allied forces have. After Omega I assume Shepard will either have more of Aria's forces and/or some of that Cerberus technology at his disposal. They really need to consider creating a final DLC that can give the player the OPTION of refusing the catalyst and winning the war through traditional means with all of the strength they acquired through the DLC.

so, according to this, Mass Effect 4 will start a new experience with a character who is not going to be "Shepard 2."

if this is true, I am glad they're moving on from the original trilogy to start something new, with a new main character.

To be perfectly honest, I just don't buy it. EA is going to be micromanaging the hell out of ME4, especially after the ME3 backlash. EA is not going to flush a marketable character down the drain. Shepard is in many ways the face of the franchise. Sure, we nerds would like to see the galaxy expand or play as a Turian or whatever. But IMO, EA isn't going to have it. They are going to play it safe and use their marketable character, whether Bioware likes it or not. I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like deja vu. Remember when Bungie said that Master Chief would never star in another Halo game?

I would welcome a new character, simply because my Shepard was already a custom Shepard to begin with. I don't care about him as the face of the franchise, because I like to create my own character.

But EA will care. :(

I just don't believe that EA, a studio known for caring about the bottom line above all else will allow a character like Shepard to be benched. I expect Shepard, Garrus, Tali, Liara, all of the favorites to be back because EA will insist upon it.

I am for a new character and story for ME4 on the next gen. Please though, no prequels on the First Contact War. We know what happened already. Make that into a comic or short movie if you want to explore that.

I wouldn't mind an RTS game that explores the First Contact War.

Well if it's done in a similar way to Xcom I can see that working. Kinda funny now seeing that X-com the shooter went third person and is/ will be borrowing element from Mass effect to a degree for that ip. A new spin on things from Biowares pov. If it's done that is .

Good point. Not that more Shepherd would be the end of the world but damn EA & damn Bioware for giving EA enough rope to hang them with!

I don't see it happening honestly. It wouldn't be the first time Bioware's changed the player character, even when it was a popular one. Part of it I think ties into it simply being by virtue of being an RPG character (most people don't use the default face, character traits aren't set in stone) etc. Shepard is already transmutable - but the character was always pitched as being a done in 3 type of character that would run the course of the trilogy and no more and therefore I don't feel like there's the same expectation that a Mass Effect game means a Shepard game like Halo/Master Chief (which has been subverted a few times already) or Metal Gear/Snake (in his various incarnations).

Case in point Halo 3 ended with things being pretty clearly situated for a sequel, that game closed with everybody knowing full well Master Chief was going to star in another Halo game. If EA wanted more Shepard games so much that they would force BW to do it against their will they would have done it for the EC and with Leviathan having apparently sold well I don't really think there's the necessary impetus.

That the news of a new main character came without a **** storm following it just makes that more likely to me. I'm not saying ME4/Shepard is impossible, or even implausible as the reasons Matt gives are totally logical - but I don't think its going to happen. If that was the way they wanted to go they had a easy chance to go the Master Chief route already and that they didn't and are now talking very directly about new characters and new directions well after release makes me think they are serious about playing around in a different corner of their universe.

We'll find out in a year or so I guess.

Agreed, same with Snake from MGS. I'd be fine with a remake of MG 1 &2, but I'd rather they not do any future Solid Snake stories, 4 tied his story up nicely. While I may not like 3's ending, I think Shepard's story is over. He stopped the threat, more or less, and completed his mission.

Where the story goes from there, either way, is fine with me. I'd be happy with a prequel. One showing Human's just settling in with the rest of the universe with everything new, and no Reaper's. Or showing how the Reaper's first came into being, and their first galactic reset. On the other hand I'd be fine with them jumping forward 100 years to show us the fruit of our labors from 1-3, and the universal impact of no ME drives. I just personally don't want a straight sequel from the end of 3.

Also, no Garrus main character. I know we all like him, but that's from a distance. Garrus is solidly a male, and has a cannon look. Which would mean no custom character. It would also take all of his great dialogue out of the game, as we'd be controlling what he says. Rather than him reacting to us. Just because a side character's good doesn't mean they should be in the starring role. A lot of characters are better as side characters because they don't have to fit in that generic hero mold, and do their own thing.

Also, ME 1 coming to PS3 is great. I know it's older news now, but I'm typically behind in video gaming news anyway, lol. I think I'm going to wait for it to do a second ME 3 run through. I'll probably do a paragon ME 1-3 run, and then finish my current 2-3 renegade run. I just find it hard to finish my current renegade run knowing more things that could alter the story are on the way. Even if I'm not into buying the DLC for ME 3 like I have been for other games like DA Origins. I'd like to hold out just in case something pops up as I don't want to get near the end and find out something else came out that alters the ending again.

Heh, all the Mission Objectives are Pumpkins today.

I don't know about the Leviathans. I mean sure that comes in handy to just knock one out really fast but they seemed to suffer a very hindering range issue and there's not an army of them. If they could just beat the entire reaper fleet like that then how did they lose their war? Also, I don't care what anyone says, the fleet at the end was only there to buy you time to get to the Citadel. Even by some miracle the fleet managed to beat the reapers at Earth, what about reinforcements? Those were only the Earth Reaper Fleet.

I'm glad we are getting more Shepard but in my head, he's already kick the bucket (with a Renegade Interrupt of course). It was a fun ride and with EC it was an great end.

Good & bad

Nearly beat Platinum last night. Died on wave 10 after getting the worst 4 part objective on the other side of the map every time. Also finally got 5000 kills having had all my stats & achievement counters reset to zero a while back.

But I still haven't unlocked the Unwavering achievement for beating the original 6 multiplayer maps on gold or the N7 missions on Insanity both of which I've done. I haven't even got the Tour of Duty one for beating them on the easiest difficulty even though I've done that at least 10 times on each map. :cmad::cmad:
