Mass Effect 3 - - - - - Part 14

The storytelling in Mass Effect games is good, but the actual plots are not.
Agreed. The characters & their interaction are the main strength to me.

Gambling and furniture shopping doesn't seem like the best way for Shepard to spend his time when he's supposed to be out forging alliances to strike back at the Reapers who are busy destroying Earth.

Then... don't do it? All that stuff sounds totally optional.

And I mean its not like you're spending a week there or something.

In any case there's still all the conspiracy stuff going on if you just are looking to get down to business.

I hope this is good. Hopefully we will actually get to interact with the Mass Effect 2 characters and Wrex in more then a passing way. Miranda and Wrex please!

Also love that the DLC is so big, you have to download it in chunks of the 360.

Eh... I just took issue with there being so many leisurely activities for Shepard to partake in given the damn near apocalyptic situation the galaxy found itself in in the main game, and I find it a little odd they're adding even more of that stuff. Just feels out of place is all.

I just did the ending again with my original Shepard, this time with the new DLC epilogue. I gotta admit, with the epilogue it's pretty darn good.

I thought this regarding a lot the side missions. With my second Shepard, who was a 'complete the mission at any cost' kind of guy, I barely did anything that wasn't a priority. It just didn't make much sense with the fate of the entire galaxy at stake and millions (billions?) dying by the day for Shepard and crew to be dealing with some rogue A.I or missing ship when he should have been focused on stopping the Reapers.

The last two DLC's were pretty much all about the war, I can understand wanting to take some time to slow down and enjoy the setting and the characters one last time before moving on. There were (rightfully) complaints about Omega not opening a hub up, people want time to hang around the setting, I'm honestly all for it.

And it looks like the entire DLC is not going to just be QUASAR or what have you, there is still a story here with some kind of enemy.

I'm hoping that this DLC sheds some light on Udina's treachery, which kind of came out of left field, IMO. Was he indoctrinated? Was he in bed with The Illusive Man all along? How exactly did it all go down?

The codex puts forth the theory that he he was already in bed with Cerberus but when the Council refused to go all GUNG HO to Earth he got scared/desperate and helped with the coup with the intention that he would force the Councilors at gun point to launch an assault to retake Earth.

I'm actually wondering if there isn't going to be teases for ME4 in this thing. Those guys up there don't look Cerberus and the logos on their arms aren't familiar to me. They could just be an isolated done-in-one badguy but maybe there will be hints to something more.

From what I understand Udina basically had 'good' intentions but ended up getting double crossed. He wanted to help Earth and made a deal with Cerberus to stage a "bloodless" coup on the Citadel. Once in power he'd order all Citadel forces to Earth. As it was the Illusive Man had other ideas and rather than the bloodless take-over Udina had planned the whole thing went sideways. Udina tries to get the rest of the council out of dodge (with Kaiden or Ashley) but then tries to frame Shepard when he shows up.

At least that's what I can work out from the Wiki.

Yeah and like always the codex is in universe so its just a "theory" but I think it fits. He was pretty pissed after the Council refused to go to Earth and while he was already pretty much an ambitious bastard, he seemed pretty shaken when Shepard talked to him.

I've always kind of liked Udina. He's a jerk attitude-wise and tends to make some dumb moves, but ultimately he always had humanities best interests at heart. I'd actually be kind of disappointed if they make some revelation that he was indoctrinated. It would be far more interesting if the attempted coup was just another well intentioned mistake.

I just read about the new DLC. The fabulous Miranda will be returning? Sweet! This will be the first post-launch DLC that I'll get if only for her

This DLC sounds awesome, I can't wait to spend some time with my favorite characters for one last time. With this DLC being so big, I wonder if that means new permanent squadmates?

I know I say this everytime there's been new DLC, but it's something I really want. I heard there were memory issues in the past, but maybe the multiple downloads required will be for that?

Seeing Robin Sachs as Zaeed one last time will definitely make me sad. I hope they add a "In Memory Of..." to the End Credits with this DLC.

I'd feel the same way, I think it humanizes Udina that even if he did something disastrous he did it because he genuinely wanted to save his race.

You guys were right. Not having the Mass Effect 1&2 experience under my belt made Mass Effect 3 pretty unplayable for me. As I was just playing it to experience the gameplay, being stopped by a cutscene I didn't understand every 2 minutes was getting on my nerves. I took it back to the store and picked up ZombiU.

Why oh why would you start with 3? Gameplay means little with out context especially in such a story heavy series. Its like coming into the last half our of a movie and not seeing the first 60 minutes

I didn't know it was that story heavy. I thought I could kinda piece together the story as I went, but it was too much.

Yeah I could imagine it becoming a long series of "who are you?" "what race is that?" "there are good robots?" "Illusive Who?"

Haha, no...The ME story is there... A lot. Do yourself a favor and pick up the Trilogy when you can. Good deal for three great games.

I posted a small version on the last page but a nice big picture version of the squad inc. Miranda:

This new singleplayer DLC is the last for SP or in total? No more DLC at all after this?

Yep :(

After this it sounds like the team's going to be split between DA Inquisition, Mass Effect 4 and the new IP.
