Mass Effect 3

Dude, play the damn game. If you're a fan of the series, the last 10 minutes won't destroy that. Even if you think the end of the game blows ass, the rest is REALLY, REALLY good.

lol he's sticking to his guns. He's not happy about something so he's not giving them money AND he's not pirating it. Major kudos.

Sorry for the new page Wolvieboy lol. Here's his post in case anybody misses it.
Here's what I think...

There will most definitely be something AFTER ME 3 that will be either ME 4 (Starting a new trilogy) or some kind of large DLC. The 3 different endings, when you think about it, would make 3 completely different ME universes and landscapes for another game... There are little things here and there throughout the game as well that imply something will come after, like Liara asking Shepard how he wants to be remembered etc

Also, whilst i agree that some kind of extended epilogue would have been nice, I certainly don't feel like the lack of it is worthy of the level of 'outrage'. The source of the outrage seems to be that the games ending and climax doesn't meet a lot of fans expectations, that doesn't mean the ending or the games themselves were actually bad.

Fenrir's post one page over (Which I won't quote since it had spoilers) was EXACTLY how I feel.

No matter how many little things I would have liked on top of the ending, the very fact that it left me with such an emotional impact means it worked. It might not be the ending we all wanted, but to call out and demand it be replaced is just unfair and as a writer myself, I couldn't think of anything more horrible and offensive to hear from an audience.

Whilst I don't want Bioware to be rude or show contempt in anyway, right now their priority should be standing by their writers. Sure, doing things for the fans and supporting them is one thing, but if you are a company who would throw the writers of your massive series under the bus over a little fan rage, what kind of message would that send? That you can't stick to your guns? That you buckle and compromise your vision over fan pressure, like Epic?

If its really that bad, he SHOULD pirate it. That'll show em. Make a s**t game, fine, ill just steal that b***h.

Well, if he really wanted to piss in their Cheerios, he would buy it used. :oldrazz:

I mean ultimately I am still glad I played ME3 and the series in general, aside from a weak ending, this game was a blast until the very last 5 minutes and had me crying and laughing all throughout it.

They made a mistake at the end, but BW still poured a lot of heart and effort to realizing most of the major storylines that ran throughout all 3 games and I thank them for that. There was more good times than bad.

Just did some Multiplayer,I only played like a min of it in the demo and had not touched it in my the main game!!

I actually liked it and was better than I thought it'd be like,Played Team..which is like a Hordes mode!!

Ranked up to level 9 already,Finally my "Galactic Readiness"is over 50%!!

Oh yea so do I, i guess I'm just of the mindset of well, been there done that. Eventually Bioware is gonna move on and some peoples choices will be made moot regardless come the next title.

Very true. It is naive to think that there would have never been a canonical ending. If Bioware had any plans of continuing the franchise (and we know they do), then certain decisions were always going to have to become canon or non-canon. Perhaps the real fools are us, the fans, for buying what Hudson was selling when it always seemed too good to be true?

If they set ME4 thousands of years into the future they could skirt around a lot of that I think.

Truth. It is kind of like this year's Super Bowl. Wes Welker is a tremendous receiver. In the Super Bowl he dropped a few passes and had a terrible game which resulted in his team losing and him receiving a lot of criticism. Despite the criticism he is still a great receiver (arguably the best of his generation). But he picked the worst possible moment to mess up, on the biggest stage in the world.

Bioware kinda did the same. There are a lot of places that they could have messed up and it largely would've gone overlooked. If they forgot to add in Rachni, for example....a few would complain but if the rest of the game is stunning it would've gone overlooked. But they messed up on the biggest, most important aspect. The ending, which players have spent five years working towards and waiting for. To mess up on that stage, at the payoff for all of people's work and investment....that is the wrong place to do it and it breeds resentment.

If they set ME4 thousands of years into the future they could skirt around a lot of that I think.

True but when you jump thousands of years into the future, you create some issues. How do you make it feel connected? Plus, they would essentially have to design a whole new world. For the world to stay the same after thousands of years would be cheap. Everything about the series will have to change to the point where it is barely recognizable (and that comes back to making the returning player feel connected).

I personally think that ME4 will have Shepard as the main character and it will be set a short time after ME3. Garrus will be in it. Tali will be in it. Liara, Ash, Wrex, all the favorites.

Hudson has talked a big game about how Shepard's story is done. But he also talked a big game about how the player's choices would assure that no two players have the same ending. Hudson, no matter how you feel about the ending, has made his word worthless. He is just like Peter Molyneux now. His mouth writes checks that he can't cash. It'll take a lot of work to undo that and gain back trust of the public. But I digress....he may have said Shepard's story is over, but Shepard has become an icon. That is clear in their promotion of ME3. There was not a single ad where Shepard was not front and center. Shepard, the N7 armor and the Normandy have become iconic. Just as Halo 4 had to have Master Chief despite Bungie saying his story is done, just Mortal Kombat had to have its cast despite Ed Boon claiming that the next generation would have all new characters, ME4 will have to have Shepard. He isn't like the Grey Warden or Hawke. Shepard is the face of the franchise. Bioware will use him again. EA will insist upon it.

thanks.....lol

yeah. I don't believe in pirating. I'll choose to vote with my wallet instead and simply not buy the game ( and future games from the company if I'm that mad ).

Maybe I'll buy it used, or when it goes on sale.........but that really depends on how Bioware deals with the issue.

And, I understand how some like ProjectPat and others say you can enjoy the game even if the ending is less than desirable.

But, I'm someone who can let an undesirable ending ruin the whole experience. Especially if I already know the ending, I don't really feel like wasting my time and money on the journey/experience if I know it's really going to end like that. That's just me.......lol

That's why I really don't mind spoiling myself of a story and/or ending. If I think the ending is great, I won't mind checking out the rest of the story.

A good case in point ( for the opposite effect ).........

I've recently fallen in love with the Disney film Tangled. Now, this was a film I had ZERO interest in seeing when it came out. Mainly because I prefer the traditional hand-drawn animated films vs. the computer animated films. So, I basically dismissed Tangled for all this time.

Recently, however, I got curious about it. So, I started reading about the characters and the story online. The more I read about it, the more interested I became in the film. Then, when I read about the ending, that's what hooked me. The ending reminded me alot of Beauty and the Beast's ending, and B+B is my all time favorite movie.

So, I decided to watch the film. And, I absolutely LOVED it!! I enjoyed every minute of it, and I now rank it up there with B+B and Little Mermaid as my top Disney films.

But, if I hadn't spoiled the ending for myself, and concluded that I did love the ending to the story, I would not have convinced myself to watch the film.

The same with ME 3.....but in the opposite direction. Now that I know the endings, I've concluded that they don't satisfy me, and I don't really see myself spending money and time to play the game for that payoff.

Not to mention, I ideally wanted to play all 3 games and take my Shepard through the entire trilogy. I've tried to get into ME 1, but I always have a hard time doing so. now, knowing how the whole thing ends, I'm less motivated to do a complete playthrough of all 3 games..........

I don't think this would necessarily be a bad thing. Seeing Halo 4 and how much it looks like Halo 3, I wouldn't mind if ME4 featured a radically different universe.

Though the scenario you posit is just as likely I suppose.

You know what?

[blackout]I'm not one to buy into the Indoctrination theory, but it would be a damn cool start to ME4 or even an Awakening-type expansion if the first mission was set about a year after ME3 and the player as Shepard is hunting down and killing Wrex or Hackett or even Liara...a fan favorite who has essentially become a leader in the resistance movement following the failed Battle of London and Shepard's presumed "death," (in reality indoctrination as he was forced to become the leader of the Reapers' forces). Shepard would of course break free and in an act of redemption for the atrocities he's committed as the Reaper general would take the lead of the resistance and end it once and for all....but it would be a cool way to continue the franchise IMO. We know that the Protheans fought the Reapers for hundreds of years, so even if the Battle of London failed, it wouldn't mean the immediate end of the galaxy.

Of course, that would force Bioware to negate everything they've said about it being the end of the story and I don't think that they'll do that. I believe Shepard lived and will be the main character in ME4, but I also think that the ending we saw happened....Bioware will just pick a canonical one and go with it. Just fun to think about.....[/blackout]

Anybody else in here over with the endings debate?,It's been a week now and the mixed emotions are still growing bitterly by now trashing the whole game/Bioware&EA(not all that in here But around the net on many sites)!

Me personally I overall enjoyed most of my ending,I understand the complaints and I agree endings are a big deal and especially for a trilogy,I also agree it could have been much better in many ways..But I'm just so over it now&don't care about it!!!

IF Bioware&EA were to do DLC like more&new endings/an epilogue/added dialogue/etc then yeah I'd happily accept,But IF not I still think the rest of the game is f'n amazing and I thank Bioware for that!!

IF or most likely When they announce ME4 then I'll be excited and anticipating it,Only thing I'd be disappointed with Bioware&EA is IF they announce you play as Shepard again and it takes place shortly after ME3(I love the trilogy&Shepard But I think there's much potential to in the deep future after ME3 with mostly new characters in a new trilogy)

And even then I'd still be excited for the 4th game

I dunno, I just have major doubts that EA/Bioware will let the face of the franchise/their strongest marketing tool stay gone.

wait, Matt, you mean Bioware's not going to be exactly "truthful" when they kept telling us, over and over again, that ME 3 was the definitive conclusion to Shepard's story??!! :wow: :cwink: :oldrazz:

of course, if they make a ME 4..........I want Tali to be the protagonist........:o

:hehe: I'm just saying, EA's marketing of this game (which was entirely focused on Shepard) shows just how aware they are that the character is an icon. He is one of the rare video game characters who has become bigger than the rest of the franchise (like Master Chief, Scorpion/Sub-Zero, etc). That awareness implies to me that Shepard will be the main character in future installments. EA won't let Bioware scrap an icon.

What IF you can customize&import your Shepard..But is not the main character?,You play a new lead and Shepard becomes the role of Anderson or Hackett!?

thanks.....lol

That saying, "It's about the journey, not the destination." It applies to Mass Effect in full; especially if they don't fix the ending.

The only thing that's canon in these games are things we all experience. Like saving Liara, fighting Saren, going on the suicide mission. Everything else is what the player decides. If they choose a canonical ending out of the 3 choices to continue the series I don't think I'll be buying ME4 new. There are tons of directions they can take spin-offs without touching too much on the trilogy.

In other news I'm doing an Insanity playthrough and this datapad app is incredible. I can't believe they didn't release this last week, it adds another layer to the game.

I just recruited Javik:

I will help you, but evolve faster. Typing messages like this is an insult.

I just recruited Garrus:

Good to be back where I belong. Less politics and more shooting.

And that's just a couple... wow. It's not much but it makes me even more sad the ending is so wrecked.

This just about sums up my thoughts on the ending quite well:

Ending Spoilers of course:
