Yeah, I'd prefer the Bat movie to step away from the DCEU, keep it grounded, forget about the mythology, magic, aliens, etc. We get enough of that in the rest of the films. Batman should stick to it's roots, what makes it stand out in the DC world, the crime drama, gangster, film noir, hard boiled detective, dark, action film. I think if they do that and just allow a director to play around in the Gotham universe and not have to worry about the franchise, they could attract a lot of great directors.

I don't think Batman works in a shared universe at all. He's great on his own against street level opposition. But the idea that he is fighting Superman is absurd. The worst part is what happens to the other heroes when Batman shows up. They have to be written as idiots (which none of them are) to make Batman look cool and necessary. Not a lot of fun to watch that half-wit Supes in BvS if you are a Sups fan.

That is one of the coolest aspects about Batman, that he as a mortal man can hang with the gods. This is classic story telling going to back Hercules, Jason, Achillies, even Cadmus from ancient greek stories. All mortal man or half mortal able to go toe to toe with a God.

It might be a goofy and ridiculous movie with a lot of dumb crap but it's more coherent and entertaining than BvS. The chases are better, and the characterization of Batman is way better. It embraces what it is, a dumb popcorn movie, while BvS tries so hard to be a million different things at once and fails most of the time. It is also more of a critical success. So yes, I think Batman Forever is overall a more watchable film. I'm not alone.

I'd rather sit through Forever and have a good time than sit through a movie that's trying to be all serious but ends up being this dull, long, poorly acted and written movie. At least when something is a bit campy like Forever, you can enjoy that kind of acting because it's supposed to be a cartoon.

That song actually existed before the movie. But the movie is the reason most people have heard it. And yes, it is the best thing to come out of the Schumacher era.

Real talk though, the soundtracks of both those films are disproportionately good. The Goldenthal score is pretty strong and the licensed songs are weirdly kind of great. The Smashing Pumpkins song "The End is the Beginning is the End" was on the B&R soundtrack. That does not make sense.
