Part of the appeal to characters like Simon Hurt and Barbatos is that you don't know who/what the **** they actually are; and that's how it should be. Let there be some mystery to them, as is the case with Joker.

In at least one interview, Morrison referred to Simon not only as a devil worshiper, but the Devil himself.

I love the Simon Hurt/Barbatos stuff. Give me that.

You should definitely check out Morrison's Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne limited series then (assuming you haven't already.)

I loved how for the longest time we just knew they were the Darkseid shaped hole in Batman's soul. Nothing more nothing less.

I skipped Metal on account of not giving any ****s about Snyder on Batman. Now I'm glad I did.

Outside of Batman: Europa, Batman/TMNT, DK III, the Batman parts of The Button arc and the first arc of Tom King's run I actually haven't bought anything Batman since Snyder's run. He lost me with Death of The Family (arc 2 in his New 52 run) and I never looked back.

It takes a lot to get me to overlook batbooks for that long but he easily did it. Hands down one of the most overrated writers in the history of the entire Bat mythos. Up there with Jeph Loeb.

Morrison stories are hit and miss for me. Return of Bruce Wayne is a definite miss.

I can't with this.

-Batman will be in the 20-30 year-old range (already knew)
-Penguin is one of the villains (already knew)
-Alfred and Gordon will be in the movie (no ****)
-There will be a female lead (seems a no-brainer)

He really blew the lid off of this project.

But honestly I'd love to see a noirish detective film that also has a religious horror flavor to it. Doctor Hurt, Deacon Blackfire, Mr. Whisper, Azrael. Sign me up.
Remember before we knew the villain for TDKR, someone here kept saying it was going to be Deacon Blackfire. He was so adamant about it. :hehe:

:lmao:

Honestly though? His passion for Deacon Blackfire kinda got me interested in that character. And TDKR did seem to borrow some elements from Batman: The Cult, so I hope he found some solace in that. :funny:

It's weird to think that back when you guys where discussing TDKR I was only like 9 or 10 years old (I'm 17 now)

Man the TDKR days were amazing

There were rumors that Robin Williams was playing Hugo Strange and that the film would be based on Prey.

I still remember that crazy feeling when BOF broke the news that Hardy would be playing Bane and that Hathaway would be Catwoman. The rumor was that Hardy would be playing Strange.

The TDKR days were nearly as good as the TDK days

I'm calling it right now: the female lead is Catwoman.
She makes too much sense.

The Black Glove didn’t have a gimmick like the Court of Owls, and they don’t have the same visual appeal. Snyder’s story is a lot more accessible than Morrison’s too.

The Court of Owls storyline served as an introduction to Batman comics for a ton of new fans. That storyline kicked off the New 52. Snyder’s style paired with Capullo’s art reminds me a lot of the DCAU, I think that’s why I enjoyed that pairing so much.

Honestly, Court of Owls and Hush both serve as fantastic introductions to Batman comics, I think that’s why they have so many fans. They can be enjoyed by casual readers, and that’s fine. They may not be the most thought-provoking Batman stories, but they’re very accessible, well-paced stories that would be fine recommendations to new readers. I enjoy Grant Morrison but I wouldn’t recommend his Batman stories to a brand new Batman reader.
Agreed 100%
