Matt Reeves To Direct The Upcoming Batman Solo - Part 2

I love Batman but it being threated as IW? I really doubt that. Maybe the sequel will or the third one but a revival of the character I do believe would be more akin to Black Panther.

Why? He's Batman. Batman is not a character you have to sell to the public like Black Panther. He's Batman. He's already sold. We have an established base line of how a Batman movie will perform at this point. Something like Black Panther was untested. Batman is arguably the most popular superhero on the planet (either him or Spider-Man based on merchandise sales). He's going to get the royal treatment. With Batman, they're not looking to make "Venom" money. They're looking for Wonder Woman money at worst and cracking a billion if all goes well. That expectation comes with a Summer release date.

Remember, BvS only came out when it did because Marvel put CW on the same release date they had, so they moved.

In fact, now that I've gone to explore the rabbit hole... there's a genuine possibility the only reason the Joker movie got greenlight is to test the effect of unusual release dates on new takes of those charscchar

And that still wasn't enough to save Justice League from crashing even though it was essentially advertised as "Batman and his super friends"

Eh, I think the October release for Joker has more to do with the fact that it is a small-budget, experimental-type film that is low risk/high reward.

Yeah. Joker was never going to be a family friendly summer go to.

Yup. Maybe they knew if they were gonna greenlight that movie it had to come out on October and on top of that they wanted to test that release date

Joker got greenlit because they're changing direction on approaching the DC movies. It's also cheap. Has little to do with testing a potential Batman release date. You cannot compare what Joker will make to Batman because Batman's budget will be substantially higher (possibly up to 4x times as much to make), so the BO it needs to gross to break even will be much higher.

JL was not a Batman movie. It was a movie with Batman in it that was plagued with a laundry list of problems. The expectations for Batman will be it has to do much better than JL, or it is an outright failure. The delay to the new Batman movie might partly be due to JL's failure. But the reaility is we can assume this new Batman movie will cost between 150-200 mil. Maybe more. Plus marketing, it is going to need to make like 650+ mil WW to break even. That's not something they will stick in October, where Venom may be the first 700mil WW movie that month ever and it is yet to be determined if it will break that 700 mil ceiling. Batman is going to get a more established release window of success.

I think we'll stop stressing about the release date once we actually have tangible news to discuss (i.e. casting, production start date, etc).

I do wonder when the hell is casting gonna start.

I finally agree with you on something in this thread.

I feel like maybe there’s a chance we’ll get a Batman casting by the end of the year. That way the guy hasn’t a ton of time to get into shape and train. But who knows... maybe that will be first order of business in 2019 after the holidays are over.

What's wrong with an October release?
We could do with more holiday-themed superhero flicks

And plays into the halloween theme.

So does Batman, you know, the scary dark figure in the shadows that haunts criminals in the night...
Too bad Batman isn’t in this one then isn’t it.....

Or did you not get the memo - Lucius Fox

That would be ideal but I'm having doubts.

The Dark Knight Rises took 4 years to make

I repeat.

I don't mean to sound rude but gee, stop being so paranoid. WB has always been patient with the Batman franchise.

No it took 2 years after Nolan released Inception, lol

Maybe they're putting something like SS2 or Supergirl for Sept/Oct 2020, leave Bat to summer 2021, Gunn seems to be onto it and SS2 doesn't take that long to shoot/post work

I do agree Bat will make big money as long as it's great in any month of the year, BP made a billion in Feb lol, and IT made 300M domestic in Sept, so audience habit has changed

WW84 already moved to Summer
2020.

The best case scenario is that this film opens in exactly 2 years from now. 2021 just seems so far away.

I feel WB look at these properties as iconic and are in no rush - they probably want to just put out movies they know will be profitable or low risk, they have maybe..just maybe learnt a lesson and get some money in first, some faith back (from investors) to show producers that they actually know what they are doing.
