Mattchew's fanart thread 3.0... *****ing out, hardcore style.

So... Here is the final on my second learning-to-use-my-tablet pieces.

This is my take on Tetsuo, from the BADASS anime classic, 'Akira'. (If you haven't seen it... Well, you must).

Anyway, here it is:

Like I said, this is my second tablet-piece so if you have thoughts on techniques with a tablet, or just the look of the piece in general, I'd LOVE to hear them.

Thanks!

P4:

A final on my March 08 fanart contest entry.

The theme: Heroes/Villians past their prime.

I did a picture of a Joker/Bats chase set in a retirement community...

Yeah... feeling a bit weird about whether voting has officially ended or what with no announcement, but thanks none the less.

Matt you are a juggernaught.

Incredible entry last month and the Tetsuo is awesome.

Yeah, the face in general is a mess. Thanks for the kind words though.

So this is the 3rd tablet-heavy piece I've done.

I think I'm really starting to get the hang of it. Also, I'm starting to play around with overlaying textures and stuff.

Anyway, it's based off the characters of 'The Maxx'. It depicts the Maxx killing an isz while Mr. Gone lurks in the background...

I LOVE whatever it is you used for the background (behind the cloaked guy) kudos!

Holy crap it's the Maxx! Very nice Matt.

I actually just used a single texture on the whole Image. but I put it on each figure in different sizes so it didn't look like I just threw a flat texture over the full thing, and I also put shadows over top the texture, again to vary the look of the texture. I'm just starting to play around with texture in this pic, so I'm glad you like it.

Thanks... that one was fun.

Thanks. I love 'The Maxx', so it was a blast working on that one.

So... This is kinda hard to justify other than to say my friends and I joke about 'He-Man humpin' based off this old 'I Love the 80' ep where they edited He-Man cartoon video to make it look like he was... well, humping.

As a result I'm sending one of my friends this b-day card I made.

Thoughts? Judgments?

aaaaaaghhh!!

and, awesome! So far, your soft-toned coloring style is my favorite. I also really enjoy your Maxx up there. Are the last two done with your tablet as well?

One thing I've noticed from these last three is that you have very little obvious light source. Like, the characters are shaded but I can't tell where the light is coming from, or what kind of light it is. It works okay for Akira and He-man, but on Maxx it takes away from the picture (probably because the rest of the picture is very dark, which would warrent a stronger contrast of light and dark for the big lug).

Keep up the great work though, I love poppin' in to see what you've come up with next!

A very awesome piece! But as someone else noted, I do think you need to decide on a light source for the Maxx. Since he is so well lit, and the background is so dark, it almost make him look like a cardboard cut-out.

I think your best bet would be to find a picture in a magezine or on the internet of someone in that same position and just apply the highlights and shadows into your image.
