Fantastic Four Crosses a Box Office Milestone Many Believed Wasn’t Possible - Comic Book Movies and Superhero Movie News - SuperHeroHype
Despite experiencing a large drop in its earnings, The Fantastic Four: Final Steps has managed to pass a significant box office milestone.www.superherohype.com
Phasix is off to a good start!
Lets just hope Brand New Day, Doomsday and Secret Wars are as good as this one.
I think fans expected a lot more than execs did. Yeah, the international numbers are a bit low, but the overall number is in line with many 1st entries on the MCU. No one was banking on this being a billion dollar hit.Domestic numbers are good but it's not doing great elsewhere. I don't want to fester negativity but with a budget over 200+ it barely breaks even (maybe if they reveal the actual budget it may not even do that).
Now, I wouldn't paint it a disaster by any logical means but I wouldn't really call this much of a success either. After two MCU movies losing money this year this was one of their biggest guns they've been waiting for years to put their hands on. I'm sure the executives expected more than not losing money on this.
Yeah but there is a big gap between one billion and half a billion. Where does it expect to end its run? I don't know if it's possible to go much further. Because again, I'm sure executives expected more than just not losing money or making pocket change profit (IF it even does that). Even by post pandemic standards this is not something to celebrate for in my opinion. Superman making 600+ million, yes. F1 making as much, hell yeah!I think fans expected a lot more than execs did. Outside of Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and GOTG, the range for 1st installments for new franchises in the MCU has been 350-650. So, the level of "failure" here is being greatly exaggeratedYeah but there is a big gap between one billion and half a billion. Where does it expect to end its run? That's why I agreed it's not a failure. But calling it a success is equally a stretch. The F4 is one of the most well known titles for Marvel, it can't be compared to stuff like Thunderbolts or Ant-Man pre MCU. Nor is it as accurate to compare it to movies that came out before The Avengers or during the pandemic.Outside of Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and GOTG, the range for 1st installments for new franchises in the MCU has been 350-650. Hard disagree. Yes, “the F4 is one of the most well-known titles for Marvel.” But well-known for what? Beloved within the Marvel fandom? Yes. But heretofore, what has been the public’s view of the property? Theatrically, the F4 has always been considered lame, cheesy, or disinteresting at best to general audiences. We know the reasons why, so I won’t re-litigate that. That's why I agreed it's not a failure. But calling it a success is equally a stretch. You're cherry picking stats. We can all agree the state of the film industry and Marvel's standing within it are different today than say, 2017 correct? So, you want to discount all other MCU eras for comparison except the MCU's most successful one. Aka, you are trying to frame the movie as a failure before having the discussion. Further, yeah the FF may be one of the most well known Marvel IPs, but cinematically speaking it hasn't translated into bankability. The FF are not Spider-Man. We have 3 movies of data showcasing the interest in the IP, and Marvel did succeed in expanding that reach as seen by BO being higher relative to those movies. The FF are important historically for Marvel, but in the last 20 years, they've been very heavily de-emphasized. Thus, interest in them isnt the same as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Deadpool, the Avengers and their members, etc. The BO here is also their 3rd best since Phase 5 started. It's a win. Not a home run. But a double. That's why I agreed it's not a failure. But calling it a success is equally a stretch.
