Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

Strange 1, Thor 2 for me. I’m surprised Blade is right in amongst the top dogs.

1. Then whats the point of making her Thor ? Yes nothing related to story or character... just PC , marketing and mandates.

2. People who think the space squid would be great for a movie should not be able to judge Watchmen or even talk about it imho.

I'm with you. I understand the people who wanted the squid because they wanted a literal live-action retelling of the comic with crappy costumes and baroque humor. Probably what Gilliam would have done.

I commend Snyder for making an adaptation, a great one at that, that over time looks better and better in a world where mostly brain-dead CBMs reign supreme.

In a perfect world, BvS never happened and Snyder released Watchmen this year in the Winter. It would have been the perfect yang to Endgame's ying.

I’m surprise Black Widow is so low.

We've already known it was happening for a long time, but we still have very little real information on it. If we'd gotten a trailer already, it would be higher, but at the moment all the announcements are just titles with a handful of details and Strange, Blade and Thor are shiny new announcements people didn't know about before SDCC so everyone is focused on them.

I thought for sure, he would go to TV similar to Ghost Rider, Punisher and Daredevil.

I'm excited for all of them. But I definitely agree with Doctor Strange being number 1. This movie is going to be crazy.
Yeah I think thats my #1 right now.

I want Eternals too

I wouldn't trust that poll, IGN's readers are trash. There's no way Blade is more anticipated than Black Widow.

EDIT: Although to be honest, I don't find it hard to believe that Black Widow being currently dead may have hurt the hype for her solo movie.

Most of the MCU MAIN CHARACTERS were cast younger than 40.

Okay, but that's a different statement than what was being addressed in my previous post.

1.Mentioning Vision or Drax when you cant see their actual face behind the heavy make up or cgi is a bad case of example. Using characters that arent suppose to be young is another bad example.

The general rule is casting young actors for leads. The vast majority of comic book hero movies leads were under 40 and under even 35 when cast.

None of that changes the fact you said most of the actors SuperT mentioned were cast when they were "younger"...the implication being "younger than 40". which was the point being addressed in my previous post.

It's very possible that is the case. Blade has two successful movies in the past and could be stirring nostalgia in fans.

Side note: one of the funniest things I'm seeing is some people on social media acting like only Snipes can play Blade, and marvel has blasphemed by casting someone else. Sorry fanboys, ALL these characters will eventually be played by more than one actor.

As long as we agree that we're talking about fans because there's no way normal people are more excited about the new Blade movie than the Black Widow one. She just starred in the most successful movie ever.

Internet polls are useless.

By "starred in" you mean she was one of the many characters in that movie. Doesn't automatically mean people are over the moon for a solo movie about that particular character.

Paul Rudd just started in the same movie and nobody is hyping an antman movie.

I have no idea how YOU believe Black Widow is more exciting than bringing back freaking Blade. With an actor as amazing as Ali

She's the original female Avenger and she's played by one of the most popular actors in the world.

That's not what I believe. What I believe is that that poll doesn't reflect the opinion of the general audience, because IGN is a site for nerds and gamers.

Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson vs. Blade starring Mahershala Ali... it's not even a contest. Most people barely even know who Blade is, let alone Mahershala Ali.

I'm not surprised about Blade. Lots of people loved the other one, it makes sense for them to be excited for the MCU reboot.
I’m glad to see it. I thought it would be around the 10% mark.

That's why Ghost in the Shell and Rough Night did super great....:hehe: That's not a knock. Most big films now are IP-driven rather than star driven, just like Marvel's for the most part. People will go see Black Widow because it's a Marvel movie, not because Scarjo is a huge box office draw, so noting that she's a more popular actor than Ali doesn't really mean much.

The poll being more excited for Blade and Doctor Strange isn't terribly surprising. Blade was trending as soon as the announcement was made and I saw a lot of hype for it on Twitter and other social media. Plus another black lead also gives it instant hype. And a lot of people came out of Infinity War thinking Strange was cool after previously thinking his first movie was just okay, so the increased hype there also makes sense.

Not just ScarJo, the success of the MCU actors does not carryover to non-MCU movies. In the MCU the actors are irrelevant. If Marvel would’ve chosen another set of actors, the MCU would be just as successful as it is now. And this is true for all superhero movies. The audience go see their favorite hero, not the actors who play them.

I'm not the one who brought up Mahershala Ali. I'm just saying, people are already familiar with both Scarlett and the character she plays and they're quite fond of them.

The same can't be said for Blade and Ali.

And Black Widow is Marvel's second female led movie. That's gotta count for something.

Sorry, there's nothing you guys can do to convince me that internet polls are reliable. Especially IGN polls, dear god.

Can only speak for myself but I'm not trying to convince you of that. It is very strange that you think people don't know Blade, though.

Sure. But I'm going off what I saw. And what I saw were a ton of black people excited by Blade getting announced.

I don't think internet polls are particularly reliable. Just that in this specific instance, I don't think "Blade ranked higher than Black Widow" is some sort of smoking gun. Like I said, just by being on social media, I've seen quite a bit of people excited about Blade, in contrast to the "Nobody cares about Blade or Mahershala Ali!" stuff I've seen in these posts.

If anything, I'd take Thor 4 ranking as low as it did as a much larger indication of bias or unreliable polling, since the IGN comment sections tend to be a cesspool when it comes to female characters.

Blade 3 was released in 2004. The character hasn't been relevant in decades (even in the comics he's kinda been forgotten). Meanwhile, Black Widow is one of the main characters of the MCU, the most popular movie franchise of all time.

IGN readers don't speak for the majority. They're gamers, man. Since when do we trust gamers.

Who cares.
Well the people who took issue with me trashing the poll clearly do, otherwise they would have just left me and my opinion alone. :o
