Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

I'm old enough were people lost their marbles about Michael Keaton being cast as Batman, Hugh Jackman being cast as Wolverine, Michael Clarke Duncan as kingpin, Chris Evans being cast as Captain America, Christian Bale being cast as Batman, Heath Ledger as Joker, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, etc.. The list just goes on and on.

As far as Phase 5, I hope I'm wrong but after hearing how D23 is combining stuff this year thus limiting time for each thing to breathe, I don't know if we will hear much about Phase 5. If they reveal even a movie title or two, I'll be pleasantly surprised but I'm not expecting anything. Marvel Studios may just wait for SDCC next year for anything big.

That doesn't stop us from still hearing other things though, like how we had already heard about Eternals and Black Widow for example before the official announcement. My guess are still X-men, F4 and even a Deadpool will pop up somewhere in a Phase 5 and/or 6 (since Phases seem shorter now).

Interesting times ahead.

There’s degrees of success. I don’t think Deadpool is going to give us 23 more successful films. The novelty of the amazing first film will start wearing off at some stage IMO. And does Feige really strike you as an egocentric guy? I don’t get that at all from him whenever I hear him speak. I’m sure he respects the Deadpool franchise.

I'm sure he does too and I'm sure he will work with Reynolds. Even when others (Directors, actors)had problems, Feige wasn't really usually it, and actually the more he got separated from Perlmutter, the better stuff has been for anyone involved.

Another point though is the fact that the Deadpool franchise saved Reynolds. Reynolds really can only try to throw his weight around so much (I'm not saying he would). With the folks he worked with before? Sure. That won't work out for him now though, for good or for bad regardless of what side you are on. That said, I don't think it will come to anything like that, all the tweets he has made since the merger was even remotely possible to when it was a done deal didn't come from a person terrified or angry at what may happen.

Yes. There absolutely are degrees of success. I really liked (esp) the 1st Deadpool and it was very, very successful for a lower budget, R rated CBM. That being said, it was certainly no Avengers, BP, etc. when it came to the box office. If you don't believe me, look at the numbers. That success gives Ryan a certain amount of leverage, but nothing like the pull Feige has. I don't know (and none of us know) what DP 3 will look like or even if it "will" get made. Marvel (Feige) will figure that all out. The bottom line is we don't have a crystal ball so we'll have to wait and see. Better to do that than guess at what comes next and then criticize someone for those non-existent actions. Kevin wants the MCU to continue its remarkable success and I believe he's equipped to help that along.

Yeah....when was the last really bad Marvel casting? Let's sit back and allow everything to unfold. I'm not worried about the casting or interested in putting an arbitrary age limit on casting choices without even knowing what the setting is. That's silly.

No solo superhero is going to give us 23 successful movies.

If Feige thinks he can make DP better, he is sadly mistaken.

Exactly why NO solo superhero is crucial to a thriving universe long term. Especially one heavily based on novelty factor that has already had 2 films come out. The MCU is a vehicle where you can add new characters with very little name recognition and still make CM/BP money. They made $1.5B with their first teamup even though they didn’t have their biggest character Spider-Man, and also no F4, no X-Men. The MCU is now going forward without half of that Avengers team, no more Iron Man, Cap or Black Widow. There is no solo character who is that important for its future which is why your Deadpool/Reynolds comments don’t make sense. Deadpool is only one of around 20 things he will be thinking about at any given moment. And did he say that he can make Deadpool better?

If DP3 had been a Phase 4 MCU film and stayed R-rated, it would have outgrossed the other 5 films.

So to answer your question, the MCU doesn't need saving but will absolutely welcome Deadpool and his great adult friendly box office.

Yes the upcoming movies arent the most anticipated for everyone but chances are they will do great and dont forget the Disney+ series which sound great.

I expect Marvel to just start building with a blend of old and new characters. They don't need any humongous blockbusters, but I expect to see a steady upward trend in interest.

Nothing remarkable in phase 4 that jumps out at me, but all look, at least, rather interesting.

WandaVision and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness are a combined exploration of Mystic Marvel, and as such is self-contained and has no ties to any Avengers stories. Thor L&T has connections to Eternals and GotG3, most likely.

I think they are putting Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Blade into their own part of the MCU.

We will get crossovers still, but they will be more like the Wanda and Strange one; strictly characters who inhabit the same parts of the MCU.

When your movies are interconnected with threads and plotlines running through all of them and have continuity (for the most part) then it isnt surprising that the MCU is looking more like a TV series isnt it ?

Thats why Far From Home isnt a classic SpiderMan film. It feels like an episode because it has to follow up on the previous films and lay the groundwork for future plotlines.

I think the next Avengers film will feature The Masters of Evil especially with Zemo becoming more Baron in Falcon & the Winter Soldier.
