Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

Yeah the movie definitely didn't underperform and has a high rt rating which make the 5 years gap more boggling.
Cumberbatch is a busy guy. Plus he had a big role in Infinity War between films. I'm sure they would have had the sequel come out next year if they could, but it didn't work out that way and since Sony wants a Spidey film every other year...

I wonder if they'll have a press conference for phase 4. I feel like Endgame would end in a game changer way, that a phase 4 press conference is a must and people would want to know as early as this year to know the slate FFor the nXt three years.

I think they'll keep it three films a year as a fourth one would just take so much effort. Like they'd be releasing a dozen of films in just 3 years, if they go for 4 films a year and that will be a lot of work and they won't even release a 3rd film for 2020 after gotg 3 is delayed.

Her role would be bigger than those two. She's freaking Angelina Jolie!

Probably not. This is likely stunt casting for a supporting role a la Anthony Hopkins as Odin or Forrest Whitaker as Zuri.
^^^ This. It's still pretty out of left field, though. I don't think I've ever seen her mentioned in a fan cast. CBM is, of course, reporting she's been cast as the lead with absolutely no basis for that. She's too old for Sersei. My bet is she's playing Elysius.

Also, in what world is Angelina Jolie a bigger deal than Sir Anthony Hopkins?

I've fancasted her before for Hela.

Thena also makes sense, but Jolie very much sticks out to me as the type for Elysius. I'd say she's definitely one of those two.

There was a rumour going around they waited to see the characters reception in Infinity War. Which would kinda make sense given the mixed response to the solo movie.
I didn't see much of a mixed response - it was mostly positive. Not "out of the park" like Thor in Ragnarok, but it was still pretty positive. I too am baffled they didn't greenlight Doctor Strange 2 for next year. IF it comes out 2021, he will have waited 5 years in between movies. His movie was well-received so it just doesn't make sense.

Cumberbatch is a busy guy and we saw him in IW so it's not as bad of a wait. I think it might have been a 2020 release if Guardians 3 wasn't originally planned for it

Marvel is just back logged on sequels. That's essentially why it has taken so long. Sequels are going to take longer as more franchises are launched, unless they increase their film output.

Dr Strange was in a movie last year and he's in a movie this year.

I don't care if his name is in the title.

Would Jolie sign a Marvel contract for multiple projects though? She's only really got one franchise via Tomb Raider right?

I think they were going to make a sequel to that Salt movie she was in but it never materialized. I might be wrong though.

Anyway, glad to see her acting again. I'm not really sure why she's kind of drifted into obscurity over the past several years (other than the usual "an actress is above 35, therefore we can only cast her in a support role" bull****), but hopefully this will reignite her acting career a bit.

Yeah - I'm curious to see what her role turns out to be. If it's not a big role, it'd be a little weird her casting is the first we heard. Usually the first people announced are the ones who are starring in the movie...At least from my experience.

I can't pretend to know her psychology intimately or anything but she's had a crazy past decade that a lot of people would in her position probably need some down time to just rest and recharge from. She had both a high profile relationship, marriage and finally divorce from Pitt. Her directorial efforts, which was a bid to become a prestige film maker yielded films mostly overlooked by the masses. And she has had multiple surgeries and treatments of the preemptive variety for both breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

That's A LOT, on top of dealing with being in the spotlight and trying to raise the kids she's got.

If so I imagine it would completely ignore the Agents or Shield version.

Anyway, I’m not at all hyped for the next phase. There may be some interesting stories but nothing that rivals a new Cap movie for me. If anything I’m dreading Eternals. I’m worried it’s going to be a boring CGI-heavy, exposition-heavy first outing. I already get my fill of the space adventures with Guardians. I wish we could have some relatable Earth bound stories. Maybe Shang-Chi will be that but looks like it might go the mystical route as well.

If they do Deathlok and ignore the Agents of SHIELD version, then just shutter the tv division and we'll all accept that it never happened, just like with the tie-in comics and one shots. Coulson is still dead...Matt Murdock has never punched anyone etc.

But ultimately I doubt that Deathlok is something Marvel us seriously considering. Then again, I'd have said the same thing about Eternals.

I'm 100% ok with them coming out and saying AOS and the Netflix shows aren't canon. I want to see MCU versions of Ghost Rider, Punisher, Luke Cage, and Daredevil on the big screen.
