Damn writers strike.

Every movie effected had ugly racist stereotypes, drug homor, giant testicles, dogs humping, robots farting, characters begging for toilet paper with their pants down, and close ups of man-ass.

All that was a direct result of the writers strike, right?

LOL good poiint there. Also dont forget the strip club..... ...I mean college frat party. I remember something on the special features to the extent of bay saying he continued to write the script while the stirke was going on. I like bay as a director but sometimes he makes it hard to defend his movie making decisions. Now the question is will we actaully see a male dong in the 3rd movie since its 3d

no, they just had bad stories.

or shall we just assume that without that list you just outlined that Transformers Revenge of the Fallen would have been an oscar contender...

thats a shame, Im really wanted to lke rotf but there were too many plotholes to look past, Im not asking for shakespeare here but just a story that isnt so complex and over indulgent. I still laugh at how if sam dies he goes to robot heaven breifly and the matrix is majically put back together

YOU CANT WRITE!!!!!!!!!!

Umm...in case you didn't notice in that pic, they also wrote Star Trek. Which was quality.

Just sayin'...

Not really.

JJ just did a better job at taking their bad writting and making a good film from it.

JJ just did a better job at tasking their bad writting and making a good film from it.

thank you for saving me the time, star trek story was nothing more then a rip off of star wars. JJ just did a really good job at masking it.

and for me and many others, it worked. Long live JJ's Star Trek!

right because in Star Wars they went back and time and created an alternate reality:whatever:

I am a Transformers fan from the 80's. I lived a minute from Hasbro and was super lucky that I got to test the toys before they came out. I had them all. I am not saying Im the uber fan...just letting you know where I am coming from.
I enjoy the Bay Transformers movies...are they perfect??? No. However I can separate the Original Transformers from the other various series...and with the movies.

That I dont agree with.

Just about every point I have seen made, where someone claims it was ripped from SW , its just a case of that person being ill-informed about Trek.

They do a great job on fringe.

star trek was masked with necessary contrivity, it was neat.
alas JJ's best decision was caressing the scrots of the fan boy. That will make all the difference when it comes to genre websites.

I am very curious, if the Script for dark of the moon is good what that will tell about these two writers.
(and how much better star trek could be once they leave)

I enjoyed the first film because optimus prime and more importantly peter cullen made me giddy like a kid again. I overlooked the sillyness like I overlooked the sillyness in the original cartoons.
but revenge of the fallen raped my childhood.

nah Ill admit the time travel thing was unlike star wars but the main story points that the film hit were.

here are the main points they copied:

our hero we follow on the journey who knows he has a destiny:

the old wise man who guides our hero on the journey to his destiny:

the bumbling sidekicks/comic relief:

A unstoppable ship with unheard of technology destroys a planet leaving our heroes feeling helpless:

the hero(Protagonist) rallies his allies to destroy the ship and beat the main evil in the climax:

but yeah other then that it was a good summer movie. but back to the topic at hand.

and you can use the same arguement for Transformers the movie

Not to get to off topic but I'm just imagining Star Trek and Transformers in 3D :)

Are you aware of how many Trekies were displeased with JJ's film??

A plot line that Lucas himself admitted to steeling from countless other stories from history.

the old wise man who guides our hero on the journey to his destiny:

Same as above.

the bumbling sidekicks/comic relief:

Worst comparison ever.

A unstoppable ship with unheard of technology destroys a planet leaving our heroes feeling helpless:

A staple of trek stories going all the way back to TOS episode "Doomsday machine"

the hero(Protagonist) rallies his allies to destroy the ship and beat the main evil in the climax:

Same as above

yeah I heard that too but george was able to roll all that up into a movie that became a staple in pop culture history. You can steal stuff but to essentially do a blue print is an entirely other thing. I liked the star trek 2009 movie but I admit it has flaws and the flaws are what I stated above.

how so? the sidekicks in the trek were essentially sidekicks who followed kirk on his journey and then provided us with laughter at certain parts. hence what I said with the comparison to C3PO/R2.

I undersand the lure of star trek and what the tv show did but these 2 writers aside from the time traveling bit essentially copied star wars.

I dont deny the film had flaws, but not in what your pointing out.

Which is what those characters did in TOS, which was over a decade before SW and C3PO/R2.

This is why I said the argument that JJ ripped off SW doesnt really hold weight.

our hero we follow on the journey who knows he has a destiny:

Will Turner, Frodo Baggins.

the old wise man who guides our hero on the journey to his destiny:

(though not old) Jack Sparrow, Gandalf

the bumbling sidekicks/comic relief:

Righetti/Pintell, The other Hobbits

A unstoppable ship with unheard of technology destroys a planet leaving our heroes feeling helpless:

The Black Pearl/Kraken/Calypso, A buttload of stuff.

the hero(Protagonist) rallies his allies to destroy the ship and beat the main evil in the climax:

Uh...every single movie known to man. Only variable being whether or not its a ship.

I'm not going to sidetrack the thread any further so this'll be the last thing I say on this topic...

EVERYTHING you mentioned are classic staples of the genre.

So really, the idea that Star Trek ripped off SW because it has these elements frankly doesn't hold up because many other films have followed similar formulas.

I think the essay The Hero's Journey applies to like almost every movie ever made.

Will Turner, Frodo Baggins.

Righetti/Pintell, The other Hobbits
