I knew TF would be horrible when during the Scorponok battle, Bay decides to cut to a call center in India for a cheap joke. I gave up after that.

So, I guess I should take that an an inability to reply right??

Nah I just dont feel like arguing, you have already made up your mind and thats cool I respect other peoples stance. I just think I made a valid argument on the blue print aspect that the writers lifted from a new hope. I said I did like it now lets move on.

Exactly.

The heroes journey has been around for freakin centuries. What a silly point that guy was trying to make

Its not silly, star wars ripped those ideas off other movies of the time like another post said but the difference was the execution and my point in star trek is the 2 lazy writers just said screw it were not gonna go different here well just hit the same beats star wars did but have star trek characters. but lets move on.

That was actually based off a real event according to Bay, where a Special Forces team had no radio communication, and had to use a cell phone to call for help during a battle. I think that was one of the few humorous scenes in the movies that worked.

actually it is silly....thats like claiming Harry Potter ripped off fantasy movies...the fact is Lucas took the mythical journey of the hero, which is in almost every myth and made it into a sci-fi fantasy movie....a convention that almost every movie has ripped off.

I wouldnt doubt that...I've had similar experiences in the Navy

I wouldnt have described our conversation as an "argument" but if you want to drop it fine.

yeah, Im not saying you but sometimes people on here take stuff to heart and it escalates real quick and gets out of hand.

I dont know why though bay feels like he needs to call out people like us on the internet whenever he gets offended by someone bashing his movies. I think my underlining problem with bay is he still acts like hes shooting a music video. I say that because his movies move way too fast almost like a rap video where you cant fully digest everything happening on screen. He has an in your face type of film making. I also have a problem with how action scenes are filmed in general today, how hard is it to pull the camera back and show us what is going on. The expendables was guilty of this especially with jet li's fights.

Use a cellphone, sure. But did they also have to talk to a call center? I guess I just wanted something less juvenile. Not dark and serious but a better balance, like Iron Man.

QFT, it's also like saying every movie that has a team of characters with individual personalities ripped off Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

Yeah the call center crap was just lame. Like seriously, you have to drop a stereotype joke in the middle of one of the most intense parts of the movie? that scene was awesome and that cut just murdered it.

the call center thing was in there because thats exactly how it happened

Oh yeah, I remember that... the first epic Transformers attack of 1991 during the first Gulf War. That was exactly how it happened.

It's probably infact what garnered the movie as wide an audience as it has.
I went with my aunt and right when the shooting and sci-fi plateau'd in that scene I could see she loosing interest where as fans of that type of thing were hooked. When that little bit of humor occured my aunt was then also hoked and the movie was effectively firing on all popcorn cylinders.

There's a reason TF2 opening as big as the dark knight(and with only half the circumstance).

I laughed at most of the jokes in the first TF... but in the second, I just cringed

Yeah I understand that the movie was made with a sort of "the audience is dumb, here is some dumb stuff" approach to appeal to movie audiences. That is really the reason this franchise hasnt lived up to the potential it has as a sci fi epic. Just because they bring in a large audience it doesnt mean that the movie was not superficial and lacked and real substance. After all theres people that pay to see stuff like Epic Movie and stuff liek that and they were able to capitalize heavily on kids and families(tho after the frat boy fest that #2 was who knows). TF1 was a million times better than TF2 Ill give you that.

There is no real comparison between dark knight and tf2.

uh no there was a spec ops team that lost comms with HQ and the only way to get comms was to call collect on a cell phone and they went thru the same thing with a call center

Should there be?
was there a "real" comparison between Batman TheLongHalloween/DKR and most of the saturaday morning toy commercials that aired during the 80's known as transformers G1? There is no real comparison between the two properties so people should stop making one.

My old man napped during inception, but had a blast during kung fu panda which was an effective parody of the silly 70's kung fu flicks he used to watch. A good movie experience shouldn't have anything to do with how "smart/complex" it tries to be. However one could spout that There is no real comparison between The Dark Kinght and Kung Fu Panda.

Moreover the Transformers movies, like all movies, fall short of thier potential(the dark knight is a joke compared to it's source material), however to say they are full of "the audience is dumb, here is some dumb stuff" is precisely what's wrong with elitist mentality abundant in it's criticism.

Next we'll be saying that ice cream cones are a waste of their potential in the wake of french cuisine and are full of dumb stuff for the dumb audience. And here I thought I was a pretty average dude that liked a refreshing snack every now and then. Why watch "Something about Mary" when I could be smart and watch "Gosford Park?" So that elitist don't title me part of the dumb audience.

Scott Pilgrim is the made for hipster hyper teens version of say Gone with the Wind...etc

Transformers is made for it's audience if you don't like it you are not a part of it's audience. Whew that must be a relief, for now you don't have to judge yourself.

There is just no comparison other than ticket sales batman is a serious crime drama and transformers is a bubblegum ass scratch. Transformers did not have to be a bubble gum flick about giant robots taking leaks or having ballsacs to bring in the mass audiences. You put in someone like James Cameron at the helm and the cheese, school boy humor, and oversexed dialogue and situations would not be there and the people would have still gone to see it by the masses. If making a movie that dumb is the only way to make people see a movie, then a movie like Batman would not have done as well as it did either. Dont credit the success of transformers to its weaknessesand dont mistake lighthearted-ness for jokes about parents on marijuana on a movie about giant robots.

Of course Im not part of the mass audience this was aimed at. That doesnt mean I cant appreciate a movie for its real qualities of which transformers has some but lacks many.
