Michael Giacchino WILL score The Batman

right there with you. I am happily eating crow. Giacchino sounds like he’s channeling Elfman and I love it.

 

Loved what we heard of it in the video.

 

That music ****ing rocks. People who were judging Giacchino based on his MCU work weren't digging depper.

Giacchino's superhero movie scores have been underwhelming, so I hope this one comes out better.

He hasn't made a truly great score since Star Trek 2009.

 

After creating the worst Spider-Man theme ever, Giacchino is apparently on his way to repeat that achievement with Batman.

In my opinion he has. Jurassic World, but only the first of the two.

 

I wouldn't judge Giacchino's work within the MCU too harshly. They are known for having a certain template the composers have to hit, and even Alan Silvestri managed to create one of his worst and blandest scores ever, for the original Avengers (the Endgame score was, surprisingly, a return to glory).

 

I am digging the heck out of this new theme. Sounds like a blend of Shirley Walker and John Carpenter to me!

 

Which, ironically, has been an actual creative team. Not only did Shirley Walker score Memoirs of an Invisible Man for John Carpenter, they actually scored Escape from L.A. together!

Day 2

I still can't stop listening to the leitmotif. Tell you the truth, this seriously has the makings to be my new favourite Batman theme. Mask of the Phantasm's still pretty much untouched right now, but if there's a longer and more dramatic version with a choir?

This sounds better than what Zimmer gave us to me but okay. God, Zimmer is such a mixed bag to me, I know people love that dude but his superhero themes are weak sauce compared to something truly iconic like his work on Pirates.

 

Best superhero theme by Zimmer is probably Wonder Woman's if that's even Zimmer and not Junkie XL, but it may be Zimmer since they performed that on his live concerts).There was no good or interesting material related to Batman in BvS though.

Anyway, Zimmer's Spider- Man theme is good, and TASM2 score is probably my favourite Spider-Man's score to date, even if Elfman and Horner did better themes than Hans.

What I hear here is... weak.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed a bit of carpenter!

 

Hopefully there's more to the theme than that simple chord progression. I'm also not digging the piano as the primary instrument.

 

Starts like Imperial March done by Carpenter and then adds Shirley Walker operatic intensity.

But my favorite Batman theme is definitely Mask of the Phantasm. The most underrated Batman theme is Batman Forever.

 

The music is fine, but I would say it's already better than Elfman for sure, I've always found Elfman's theme overrated.

 

Oooo uhhh we’ll save that debate for another thread. Elfman’s Batman score is life.
