Michael Giacchino WILL score The Batman

Someone got insider access to just the music channel of the trailer, so may as well be "official" until a soundtrack comes along:

Interestingly, Reeves confirmed it's not a cover.

That was a response to some dip**** whining about trailers using slowed down covers of songs even though those are clearly the original vocals. I don’t think it rules out some Giacchino being mixed in.

As I said in my own posting of this video, the part at 1:55 is just

Chef's Kiss

I cant get over how incredible the score to this film sounds. It's honestly more spooky than anything and I just love that so much.

So a lot of people have drawn similarities between Giacchino's theme and the Imperial March. Well, if you've listened to The Soundtrack Show Podcast (which I highly highly recommend if you have an interest in film scores), David W Collins pointed out how you can hear traces of Chopin's Piano Sonata 2 AKA The Funeral March in John Williams' Imperial March.

Well, I think a better way of thinking of it is The Batman theme isn't inspired by the Imperial March, so much as they both share a common ancestor. I think especially with the prominent piano that's clear.

Even if it wasn't intentional, I love the thought of this. The repetitive nature of the theme makes it feel almost as if Bruce is stuck in this perpetual state of mourning for his parents.

If Giacchino's theme has a choir in it, I'm gonna strongly reconsider if Phantasm is my favourite Batman theme because that fan made version sounds BEAUTIFUL

I hope his music for Batman turns out better than what he did for Spider-Man, which was underwhelming.

There's reason to be hesitant with those in mind, but what we have so far has been a real tone setter and fitting; so far so good for me.

He’s never turned out a score that was any less than fine. I think we’ll be okay.

God this movie is going to be so good. It feels so good knowing that Reeves and Giacchino love and are drawing from all over the franchise (knowing that they love 66 and BTAS). It's just going to FEEL authentic while doing something totally new at the same time and that balance is going to be really exciting

Tomlin also said working on this script gave him a reason to rewatch BTAS.

I wonder if Michael has themes ready to go for Falcone, Catwoman, Riddler and Penguin?

Been on a LOST rewatch lately and finding Giacchino’s material for The Others has a vibe I can definitely see working in Gotham City...

And I can see something like this for Bruce getting his detective work on in the cave:

Oh, that Lost score. One of the best television soundtracks of all time. It's better than a lot of movies today.

It’s Giacchino’s crowning achievement IMO.

Goddammit, I wish his theme was on iTunes.
