I'm not sure, but I recall Cruise said they planned on using real planes for Top Gun 2. Knowing Cruise, on that matter, I would believe him.

With all the crazy stunts Cruise is doing, I wonder if he's going to fly the planes for real in Top Gun 2.

Props to the cameraman too for doing it backwards.

I really doubt the military will let Cruise pilot a fighter jet that costs $150+ million. At most they might let him sit in the seat while an actual pilot operates the jet from the rear seat. If that's even possible.

Much respect for Cruise for doing stuff like this. I'm sure it's nerve-wracking enough jumping from that height, but to do it and try and remain 'in character' in terms of facial expressions and stuff must be even harder.

Wow! I can't believe they actually had the camera man do the HALO jump to and film it on the way down. That's insane! I can't wait for this movie.

I'm sure people will think that's CG but every Cruise shot is all him usually.

Random, but I was just thinking... has Tom Cruise been in any films where he didn't run? I don't think he ran in Magnolia, unless I'm forgetting a scene. I know he ran in Jerry Maguire. Can't remember if he ran in American Made.

He ran the plane.

Is the HALO jump going to be the opening of the movie?

I don't think so, I think its the middle of the film.
Supposedly, Mcquarrie said it didn't open with an action sequence.
Of course, plans change, so you never know.
Also, The Halo jump takes place after Cavill is introduced.
He is the one that Cruise catches up to in midair.

Tom Cruise is good and all, but he's not incapable of making bad movies.

I love Jack Reacher for example, but the sequel is beyond mediocre. The Mummy was awful.

The Mission Impossible movies are like the only franchise stuff he does now that's still really good IMO.

He is definitely not but when he hits the ball, it's a home run.

And his last missed opportunity with the MI franchise was II.
Since that movie, they have just been getting better and better.
