Mission: Impossible - Fallout - Part 1

I don't think they explicitly revealed that anywhere in the film.

Also, her role isn't decent sized by any means. She probably has a 5 min total of screen time, appears in the beginning and disappears throughout the second half of the film.

Yeah they did. Multiple times...
When they first walk into the private room after getting scanned and then mentioned it again when they went to her home/place of operations. They never flashed to any bit specifically about that Max but it can be assumed as they both have the same career, both British and Max is not a common name for a woman.

Her role didn’t feel that small. It wasn’t huge but it was more than Léa Seydoux’s role in GP. Or at least it felt like it was.

Both the critic and fan reviews are getting me very excited for this one. Loved the the last 2 movies and always thought McQuarrie was under rated as a director.

Really? I think I might've missed it. What was the direct homage?
.

Solomon Lane’s extraction. Everything about it screams it was influenced by the Lower Wacker sequence. The long train of police vehicles being followed by a chase camera, the diversion, the convoy entering a tunnel-like area, the same ratcheting, pulsing soundtrack, the truck going into the water having been hit by another. Definite homage.

It’s great that late-stage franchise entries are getting much better these days.

I always thought they could have been. The idea that franchises were dead once they got to the 4th and 5th, etc entries was always silly to me.

If you pick the right talent, franchises can go on for a long time. Thankfully the M:I franchise has a good track record on picking talent.

Yeah. You’ve got the original trilogy and even though they’re obviously part of the same film series, you’ve got the “subtitle trilogy” (instead of being numbered 4, 5 and 6) and it’s like the last 3 are completely different beasts than the first 3.
M:I3 was a step in the right direction but Ghost Protocol rejuvenated the franchise and gave it the much needed boost it needed and NARROWLY beats Rogue Nation for me, but Fallout takes the cake.

I’ve liked them all to some extent, but the later films are turning the whole into something bigger and better for me.

Yeah, same here. Rewatched them all before Fallout last night and even though M:I2 is the worst in the franchise, it has some good action sequences. Just feels out of place with the rest of the series though but still about half enjoyable lol, just full of the early 2000s cheese and cool visuals lol

I agree too. I always thought it was a dumb excuse and happened often because they didn’t put everything into those later films to the same extent. Definitely true of PotC. I’m glad that series like this are showing the less intelligent Hollywood execs that there is no reason a solid franchise can’t go from strength to strength if handled in the right way.

I’ve got a soft spot for MI:2 lol. And with every other entry the credentials are clear. And on top of that, the whole is bigger than the sum of the parts with how it all ties together.

Does anything from MI2 get a direct mention this time around?

Oh well, will pay more attention to her screentime on my 2nd viewing :)

She had a decent size role and was sprinkled through most of the film. Also... FILM SPOILER:
She’s Max’s daughter from the first Mission Impossible film.

Does that have any relevance to the plot or just thrown in as a random callback?

 definitely. Get talented people involved and these franchises can go on for a long time.

Yep. Btw is Cavill’s character likely to be a recurring character? Can spoiler tag if necessary.

He dies during the final fight with Ethan Hunt on the cliff.
The helicopter carrying cable hooks him in the head and the helicopter falls, plus you see a high angled shot of his head smack against the rocks below lol

So, how do people rate the series as a whole now they’ve seen Fallout?

For me, it goes:

1. Fallout
2. Ghost Protocol
3. Rogue Nation
4. Mission Impossible
5. MI3
6. MI2

I saw an interview where Henry Cavill said he usually reads forums.

So... hello Mr Cavill!

Hello Henry. The moustache suits you.

I’m so sorry for what WB have done to your Superman.

Best wishes.
