Seeing this tomorrow so I'm excited. I've only watched the first couple of trailers. I know the third act is bonkers, but how's the opening scene? I can't imagine it topping Rogue Nation's.

The one thing I wish they had carried on was like the opening scene in M:I where it was a different mission from the main story. But I guess that might be too reminiscent of the Bond series.

This film starts very differently, but there’s stuff Cruise does later on that makes the plane stunt from the start of Rogue Nation look easy. I’ve never seen a film take so much time and trouble to show you the actor in genuine scenes of peril. How he’s 56 I’ll never know.

I think the thing with this movie is it’s absolutely a continuation of the kind of stuff from the previous movies - especially the last two - only done to a higher level. You’d have to hate the MI films in general to hate this... in which case, why go see it in the first place?

So good! Intense, raw, thrilling. Probably the best in the franchise (on par with GP for me). Cruise rocks once more and Cavill was finally a bad*** in a good franchise!

I’d say each member had a moment. Some more than others.
As for Vanessa Kirby, she was great in this. Not the biggest role but a good size.

Yes, pretty much every team member has a moment to shine.

Kirby was a bit wasted. She really isn't much in this film. She is there to be good-looking, but that's about it.

Oh damn. Was not expecting that.

Whelp that was amazing. I don't think it is the next Dark Knight or Fury Road (even critics are getting a little too into internet hype these days) but it is GREAT. Easily the best summer movie of the year and perhaps the craziest and most spectacular assortment of stunts in any M:I film. I also think McQuarrie's command over pacing and characterization is impeccable, especially compared to so many contemporaries who are all over the map with their CG eye sores.

I do think Rogue Nation is slightly better. While it probably doesn't have a stunt as spectacular as the HALO jump or what Cruise does in the climax of this, I love the opera sequence as a set piece. So well done and intentionally evocative of Hitchcock. It also is what, in my mind at least, made Ilsa one of the iconic M:I supporting characters. I also think Rogue Nation has a slightly better plot with a real interest in seeing Ethan's modus operandi ("gambling" and flying by the seat of his pants) pushed to its limit.

But even if Fallout is third for me, I think its action will make it a favorite for many. Bloody good time, this one.

Amazing film, as someone has already said, there was a scene that gave me The Dark Knight vibes straight away but I think it executed it better.
The best in the franchise to me, Ghost Protocol has been my favourite for a while and it’s been dethroned. A solid 9/10, maybe even a 9.5
And yes, go see it in IMAX, I did!

Seriously, if ever there was an advert for 'ditch the CG and do it real' then this is it. McQuarrie is definitely inspired by Nolan in this film, and that's no bad thing. There's one sequence in particular that is almost a homage to a similar one in The Dark Knight. You'll know it when you see it.

Really? I think I might've missed it. What was the direct homage?

Only weak links were Cavill - who is extremely one note, but still packs a punch, and things get a bit confused as to who is on whose side in the middle act. But once all that business is sorted out, it flies into a climax that is not going to be topped this year by anything.

Terrific film

Oh, I loved that in this one. Where it gets so convoluted the movie is basically winking at the audience.
