There's more to it than even that; if EVERYTHING about a character is changed, from what he wears to where he lives to how he acts, & a fan has ZERO complaints, it leads one to wonder 1.) if he liked said character before the changes, & 2.) why?
See, I'm upset b/c they have essentially stripped away everything I have ever loved about Spider-Man & replaced it with new school nonsense. He's like a knock-off of himself now. The only reason I haven't dropped the books is because I still get entertainment out of the stories, even if they're going in a bad direction.

Well, I dropped my last 616 Spidey title this week. I read an issue of the new Detective Comics, and I decided I'd rather have it in my box than to continue reading Sensational Spider-Man (which was the last 616 Spidey-title I was collecting). Nothing against Sensational, but i just can't stand this crap anymore. I don't enjoy anything about the unmasking, and the upcoming changes look even worse (if that's possible).

I'm done with 616 Spidey for the forseeable future. Ultimate Spider-man and Amazing Spider-Girl are all I have left, now.

I guess I'm enjoying watching it bite him in the @$$, & looking forward to him coming to his senses.

And truth be told, the only new powers that I don't like are the stingers & talking to insects. Those just don't make sense & they don't fit the character. The strength upgrade I don't mind, the night vision & feeling through the web I can live with. And I am in the small vocal minority that stopped fussing about organic webbing way back in January 2002.

It's not about that. You really irk me with remarks like that. I am, however, surprised that NONE of these things bother him.

I'm glad it irks you, :woot: :oldrazz:

Seconded. When NONE of the changes bother someone in the slightest, it's cery weird. Even my favorite books do thing s I don't like or agree with. Runaways killed off a major character recently, and I wasn't too thrilled about it. Still....one change I didn't like doesn't kill a good book.

Conversely, ten bad changes that I hate does make a book bad in my eyes...

It is possible for people to find enjoyment where others can't. Also he may not take his comic reading as seriously as a lot of people do around here as well.

Okay-so all those parents picketing the school & JJJ suing him are signs that he made a good move?

Someone liking something I happen to dislike is fine...but I find it hard to believe that anyone could like EVERY SINGLE change inflicted upon Spidey in the last few years. If the guy says that Sins Past was good too, I'm going to call "foul".

yeah spidey'd probably rather have VENOM than what jms and bendis've dumped on him

I don't lump Bendis in with the rest; all he did was put him on the Avengers.

ummm when has jameson EVER been a fan... soo that point is mute...

and hey.. people don't picket when they support someone, your seeing the negative side only with that... plus.. it actually makes sense because now that villains know who he is.. there going after him at work...

I liked Sin's Past alot actually... it was very well written (aside from gwen's paris "vacation" wich doesnt really add up... but then again when ever has marvel time) but then again, im an optamistic person and the arch was very vague about what really happened the night gwen and norman hooked up... and i like to think she was drugged.. because quite frankly that's the only way it makes sense

And this is a good thing?
i find it a bad thing for parkers life, but an interesting thing to actually read... i for one have always wondered what would happen in spideys life if he outted himself.. and now he is... but i dont freak out cuz i know it will come back to formula... it always does

They could've done it in a What If & not wrecked continuity; there'd be nothing to undo,

So what if someone does? Like I said, some people don't take things as seriously as most Spider-Man fans do. Not everybody is going to be hanging over every change in Spider-Man's life with a microscope and screaming that the editor in chief is a ******. Some people just love reading Spider-Man regardless, let them be, damn.

It doesn't take a microspope or even a pair of bifocals to see that everything that made Spider-Man popular & so widely loved has been destroyed.
He was relatable. We could all identify with him.
Now he lives in a luxury apartment/superhero headquarters & wears a costume that probably cost more than some houses.
He was devoted to his family.
Now he has willingly put them in the crosshairs of oh, every bad guy in the world.
He was his own man.
Now he takes orders & plays flunky, even if he knows in his heart he's wrong, just to gain approval.
He had cool powers, but was still just a regular guy.
Now he's a monster.
He had an AWESOME costume.
Now he looks ridiculous.
He was smart.
Now he can't seem to go 5 minutes without doing something stupid.
He had arguably the greatest rogues gallery ever.
Now he fights vampires who want to drain his "totemistic" powers.
He made money off the very publisher who went out of his way to villify him.
Now he can never do that again.
He balanced his superhero career with maintaining some semblance of a normal life, always keeping Spider-Man & Peter Parker's worlds separate.
Now he can't.
He lived by the credo/mantra "With great power comes great responsibility."
Now his motto seems to be "Whatever Tony says, goes."
And for the record, we're not ripping on anyone for enjoying the stories. I still do. Some things are still being done right. But to say that absolutely nothing has been done wrong? To say we're overreacting by voicing our displeasure? I love living in America but I'll be the first to tell you I don't agree w/the majority of Bush's moves. And to me, that's what JQ is; the George W. Bush of Marvel. And I'm counting the days until he's out of office & they can repair the damage he's done.

Now he lives in a luxury apartment/superhero headquarters & wears a costume that probably cost more than some houses. Umm last i checked he wasn't enjoying it too much and still wants to move out when he saves up the money

He was devoted to his family. still is.. remember, its aunt may who said he should and was ok with unmasking himself

Now he has willingly put them in the crosshairs of oh, every bad guy in the world. it was a decision made by his family

He was his own man. still is.. but was missguided by someone he could trust, but hes going to be switching sides soon

Now he takes orders & plays flunky, even if he knows in his heart he's wrong, just to gain approval. not for long

He had cool powers, but was still just a regular guy.
Now he's a monster. get over it, hes still as much as a regular guy can be who has spider powers, has grown 4 extra arms, had a living costume controling him, been cloned, been turned into a human spider, turned into a hulk, had the powers cosmic, had his parent's killed by a nazi, and had his first true love die at the hands of his arch nemesis only to find out that she had babies with him 10 years after her death when her children came a knocking on his door

He had an AWESOME costume. still does... and hes getting his awsome black one back now

Now he looks ridiculous. iron spidey is growing on me.. but since black is back, its not lasting long

He was smart. still is
Now he can't seem to go 5 minutes without doing something stupid. your opinion

He had arguably the greatest rogues gallery ever. don't see where that's changed

Now he fights vampires who want to drain his "totemistic" powers. not the first supernatural villains hes ever had

He made money off the very publisher who went out of his way to villify him.
Now he can never do that again. o get over it.. jameson's always been a scrooge.. they havent been buddy buddy for a long time

He balanced his superhero career with maintaining some semblance of a normal life, always keeping Spider-Man & Peter Parker's worlds separate.
Now he can't. i find that interesting to see, but like i said.. it wont last long

He lived by the credo/mantra "With great power comes great responsibility."
Now his motto seems to be "Whatever Tony says, goes." he's yet to deny his power or responsiblilty.. if anything he has more of both then ever

EXACTLY. I've known and loved the formula but man it is ****ing stale. I quit right before the relaunch and only picked up (and caught up with) Spidey this past year. Joe Q sucks but at least something's happening.

ya.. and when they went "back to formula" after the relaunch.. it wasn't till JMS and JR jr took over that put spidey's sales back up.. because the sales were severly down

Dude, that's fine. Let them be. If they enjoy being spoon-fed and not thinking too much about what they read, that's their perogative. I'm sure these are the same people who bought Chapter One, as well. Just don't come on here and expect those who (rightfully) take this book a little more seriously than "just a book", and have an emotional investment in the characters contained in its pages.

They enjoy whatever comes out, no matter what it is, fine....but some of us set our standards a little higher than that. I understand people are going to have a different opinion, but to agree with EVERYTHING a company does, well, that's just ignorant. I personally enjoy reading into the material...that's what it's there for.

Hey!, I bought Chapter one until about #10.
It was around then that I reaslied handing over money every month for the Byrne abomination was not as much fun as the Bull Pen had made out.
I was only 18..

I was 25; I just clung to the hope that it was gonna get better. Kinda like I'm doing now.
