The Amazing Spider-Man Moviehole scoops details on both scripts...

All I know is they WILL likely change the suit anyway.

There's no way Raimi's bright and colorful Spidey suit will work in a darker toned, gritty Spider-man film.

Moviehole has details on both scripts.

Basically for SM4:
- Spider-man 4 DID feature Peter and Mary-Jane with a baby.
- Vulturess was added in the script, at the request of the studio.
- Vulturess was a retooled version of Black Cat.
- Vulture was the editor of the Daily Bugle.
- Script was apparently pure crap.
- Raimi had lost hope in the project and walked.
- The studio also wanted to add a third villain.
- Anne Hathaway was gone from the project late last year (my guess is when Sony turned the Black Cat into the Vulturess).

Vulturess and a baby for Peter and MJ? :barf:

Horrible! So much for Raimi having full creative control.

If you read it right, Vulturess was a studio interference thing, not Raimi. The whole split happened cuz they wouldn´t give Raimi creative control.

The Slashfilm scoop DOES make it sound like the studio wants to go Dark Knight-ish with the franchise. That DOES NOT sound good.

I don't think they will actually make it "dark". They'll "get rid of the fluff" which means, the cheese like stupid ****ing dance numbers and melo drama that is comparable to tv soap opera's.

SM4 had fail written all over it. Vulture boss of the Bugle? Black Cat/Vultress Vulture's daughter? MJ and Pete having a ****ing baby?

Yea, I'm sooooooo happy we didn't get that.

Now if it was revealed Raimi wanted to go the logical route, the route that makes the most sense ie The Lizard, I would be upset at this news. But Raimi didn't want to do that. So... **** it.

What does "Dark Knight-ish" mean though? Make Spider-Man a tortured and dark vigilante?

Or take the character seriously and not have a load of ******** unnecessary cheese tastic scenes and corny humour?

Now it becomes more clear why they had to stop production. From the excerpts mentioned the script does sound like a mess. But it's not made clear who's to blame for the bulk of the questionable plot points.
Horrible! So much for Raimi having full creative control.
Yeah, Raimi said he had full creative control but that was never the case it seems.:o

The only thing that wasn't Raimi's decision was Vultress.

Vulture boss of the Bugle and MJ and Pete having a baby was Raimi's decisions. And they ****ing stank.

The article makes it sound more like the first than the second. They hired the writer of Zodiac, which is a very dark, gritty, "Dark Knight-ish" movie.

To JustABill:-

Raimi had little to no hits until he was hired by Sony to direct Spider-Man. He didn't have the serious box office record that say a James Cameron had to say ''**** you and let me do what I want' on a big picture. The guy doesn't have THAT kind of pull please be realistic.

I'm sure it will still be Spider-Man though. Spider-Man is popular because he is Spider-Man. Spider-Man got a movie in the first place because he is Spider-Man... not a rip off of Batman.

The studio will know this.

Well he made Sony 2 billion dollars with his Spider-Man films. A director with guts would put his foot down and say "Hey, I just made you 2 ****ing billion dollars!" Raimi obviously didn't do that.

i hope that by more Dark Knight-ish they mean no more cheesy crap like Peter dancing, stupid little kids, and melodrama "does she or doesn't she love me" crap

i'm betting that there will be humor in regards to Spidey's wisecracks

at least that's what i'm hoping for

About the baby thing.

I think it was a mistake to start these films with Mary Jane instead of Gwen Stacy. This would have allowed Gwen to die in SM1, allowed Parker to pursue MJ in SM2 (also giving him the same "dont I deserve to be happy and guilt issues" he had in SM2)and solved the damsel in distress issue these films have had.

Everyone thinks of MJ as Parker G/F but Parker had a couple before MJ came around.

Within the context of the films, with Parker and MJ being together from the beginning, a kid can work.

I mean do you want Parker to be a teenager forever?

This is one of the things that after 15 or so years (early 70s through mid 80s) began to turn me off from Marvels comic books. No passage of time.

I would prefer to see the character age over time, grow, mature, move forward through and experience life, as the films progress.
This is one of my biggest gripes with the Xmen films. Instead of seeing the team grow over time, we got 3 films that all happen within a few months time and its all over. I wanted to see the Xmen grow up together, learn to be a team and family, etc. The passage of time is important for character development.

Thats the point of having a continuing story.

i love how people are looking forward to this say stuff along the line oh yes now spiderman can be done right with more spidey humor i cant wait.

LOLOL

Sony was fine making all that money the way it the humor was

this is the same studio my friends who forced a top tier director who made them a 3 billion dollar franchise wtf do you think they will do to the new director.Sony does'nt want to reboot because they feel it should be done they are rebooting it because they hate Raimi and dont want his team back.

Sony knows it is there money franchise and have to keep making films on it or Marvel takes it back. They are rebooting it because they want to keep the rights and make more moeny not because it was not done right

in a nut shell they are rebooting because they want more Money and so Marvel cant get there only superhero franchise

they want to make it dark and gritty because it is the new in thing making things dark

TDK and Watchmen came out recently also the new superman was rumored to be dark and gritty till they went into development hell.

I think he did, and Sony still would not budge

Studios rarely give into a director's demands. You need some Oscar + $$ cred for that sort of thing

He obviously did it, since the production was halted.

He took a stand, the studio didn't care, so he walked. That is as much as he can do.

dark and gritty spiderman with less humor congratulations guys you got you new spiderman done right :awesome:

Yea ok you guys are probably right. And you know what? I'm GLAD! After reading his ideas for SM4 (Vulture head of the Bugle? Black Cat his daughter? MJ and Pete having a baby?!?!) I'm soooooooooo happy SM4 didn't happen.

Dark and gritty? Where are you getting this stuff from?

Spider-Man is a massive comic book character. Why? Because he is Spider-Man! Not a Batman rip off! I think the studio realizes this, it's why Spidey got his own movie franchise in the first place.

They are "getting rid of the fluff" which means... no more ridiculous ****ing dance numbers, no more melodrama that belongs in tv soap operas, treating the character seriously and not making him a parody of himself like he was in SM3.

you think they were gonna have a baby right off the bat they were to even together at the end of sm3 lol

what is wrong with having baby they did it in the comic?

It would have been the natural progression of the story.

especially if Aunt May died

It was crap in the comic aswell.

It would of put more focus on Pete and MJ struggling with their relationship (which we haven't had enough of already, oh wait!)... instead of the good stuff. The actual Spider-Man stuff.
