Rise of the Silver Surfer MUSIC Score and More DISCUSSION

But we still have Story directing. That's my worry. Well, that and Rothman.

If left somewhat alone by the suits, I think Story will deliver. Every film he's directed since the exceptional Barbershop was compromised by people and factors outside his control.
You think he's proud of Taxi? I'm sure it looked like a decent high-profile gig aqt the time and he probably took it as a career move. Hell, maybe that thing looked funny on the page, I don't know.
And then Fantastic Four was sabotaged by the know-nothing suits at Fox, saddled with a weak script and butchered by substandard editing.
Just remember, if it weren't for Story, Doom would have been even more unrecognizable and screwed-up. (Hard to imagine, I know.)

Let's give the guy a chance here. This is an FF movie that he's had creative in-put on from the get-go. It just may surprise everybody.

One thing's for sure, though: This being the Silver Surfer and Galactus, if Story does screw it up, it'll be the Hindenburg of superhero films.

Personally, I liked Ottman's score from the first film.

Do you have the orchestrated soundtrack?

It shows how the editing of the film made the difference...

Even the opening credits were screwed....and cut to shreds...including the music.

My brother has it, and i listened to his back when it first came out.

Again, i didnt hear anything that made me want to purchase a copy for myself.

To me, FF is worthy of a theme that's instantly recognizable, not unlike Williams' Superman and Elfman's Batman. Jeez, i even hear Elfman's Batman theme in my head when im reading a Batman comic, lol.

Unfortunately, FF got severely short-changed in that department, imho.

Is it really possible (at this point) to make a fair comparison? How many Superman and Batman films have you seen? If you imagine back to a year after the first Batman movie when you had only seen it once or twice, do you think you'd easily hear the theme in your head?

Honestly, I can't hear Elfman's theme right now as I try to remember what it was (though I'm sure I would recognize it if I heard it), but I can hear either FF or Superman if I think about them.

Oh, no question. I remember sitting in the theater and getting chills when the music began.

And going back a decade further, even as a youngster, Williams' Superman had the same effect on me. The Superman soundtrack was the very first soundtrack i ever bought in fact.

When you put it that way, I guess I remember a similar sensation during the opening credits of both films. . . but they also had opening credits with the relatively simple visuals and music and that helped to build anticipation (of films that were already highly anticipated).

I had never really minded the lack of opening credits on FF, but when I think about it in that context, there is a certain anticipation that builds during the opening credits of films like Superman, Batman and even Hulk and X-Men. That lack of credits for FF may have been subliminally missed more than I've realized before.

Agreed. I'd add the Spider-Man movies and Daredevil to that list as well, although Elfman kind of made Spider-Man somewhat similar to his Batman theme...

His work on The Hulk was spectacular though, especially the desert scenes imo.

I was stunned by the lack of a substantive opening sequence for FF1. It felt as if they didn't want to spend any more money on it or something. Every superhero movie should have a fairly lengthy opening credits sequence. It's a welcome tradition.
I sure hope FF2 shows improvement in that area. The FF main theme is fairly decent but was never given a proper pumped-up chance to shine in the first film, except in the closing seconds.
Next June I want to see a BIG freakin' "4" backing off (ala the "Star Wars" logo or the Superman "S") as the main theme blasts or I'm gonna be disappointed.
:ff:

I love Ottman's work, I'm even listening to his score to Superman Returns right now, so I'm really glad that he'll be returning for Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer.

Great news that Ottman is returning. Personally I love his theme for FF.

Me too.^

I don't understand how some people hate it.

They say that it isn't recognizable and that it dosen't have enough staying powing in your mind. Personally I love it. I usually hum it every once and a while when I'm having heroic daydreams

That doesn't make sense. It's one of my favorite scores.:down

People find the dumbest things to pick on.

No, people just have their opinion of the score, and its different from ours. So what? its just different.

Personally, I really loved the score that he composed for Fantastic Four.

I got the Superman Returns OST yesterday and to be honest I liked the FF one better.
I'm seeing SR on saturday, maybe after seeing the movie the soundtrack will sound better. But SR's main theme didn't really stuck in my head. FF's main title does, when you here it you know wich movie it's from. And I think that's what a good soundtrack needs to do.

Was I just making sense ?? :p

I loved the Superman Score, OMG and they way he incorporated William's stuff in from the original was absolutely beautiful. IMO

Williams' music was definatly the best pert of the Superman Returns score. Personally I can't remember alot of Ottman's cues (but then again I haven't scene it for a couple weeks. Note to self, see Returns again)
