My guess on why the Venom storyline will suck.

it's sorta funny because I imagine Topher being the kind of wiseass Spidey shouldve been in the first two films.

Topher would make a great Peter, he is just a poor Brock.

If this movie makes 350 million... it will be a bust... 375 minumum... Sony wasn't stupid... they had to have seen something in Topher... the guy can do more than comedy... they are actors... they kind of have to be able to play various personalities... the cliffhanger just doesn't work... you want to wait three years for all of this to conclude... not to mention the threat of everyone we know leaving the franchise? Bah... just get Venom close enough... you know he will be back in SM6 along with Carnage or at least Carnage himself...

It is easily going to make 375 at least no matter what. Also, ever hear of Arnold Schwartzenagger? He can't act, but he made a living doing one role a million times. Why should I think Topher is any different at this point? You know, people are miscast. It happens. Even the great Raimi can make a mistake. If they set up Venom for a 4th film, and you kill Dunst, problem solved. Tobey has been open to coming back, and I doubt Topher or Ms. Howard, and all the other supporting cast members would turn it down. So, they'd be in. Plus, by setting up Venom for 4, you will guarantee a fortune for the next one.

One role??? No way... Twins? Junior? We saw the sensitive side of Arnold too... so why can't Topher play an exact opposite? Tobey has made no plans of coming back... neither has Raimi... just left it open to speculation... if u want to take your chances... go do that... but if these people have to be recasted with a new director... I'd be *****ing pissed..

Twins and Junior sucked, by the way, as did about 90% of Arnold's movies. Believe me, if they set up Venom for 4, everyone will be back.

it's too early to say whether or not Topher will be good.

True. I expect him to impress me, but I haven't seen or heard him utter a line either.

They didn't suck... I liked those films a lot... but I'm an Arnold fan so I am biased there... the bottom line is, Topher must have gave a hell of an audition for this part... I'm not buying they casted this guy just cause he looked like Tobey's brother... and no... I'm not taking my chances... Tobey will be 35/36 (by SM4) and the guy just got engaged... You really sure? Bryce and Topher... probably... but everyone else is a major "?"... Sony said they want six movies... Two trilogies with the same cast for each one will suit me just fine...

As i've stated many times before;

I will reserve my judgement until after i've seen the film. So far I am excited about SM-3.

I am excited, but at the same time concerned. I will give Topher a chance when I watch the movie, and hopefully he'll impress me. I just don't see him doing it. That is the problem.

Although who knows... Maybe they will just replace Tobey with Jake and Dunst with someone else and go with the cliff hanger... just would piss me off if they did...

They won't replace the stars unless it is a complete series revamp years later.

Exactly. If Venom is set up, then we will know everyone is back. Sony isn't dumb enough to set up a villain, and then let everyone go.

It just doesn't make sense financially... Tobey will automatically be another 26-28 million (he's making 25 if I am not mistaken?)... Dunst you'd be talking 10-12 million minimum... certainly Topher and Bryce will want a pay raise... signing on crucial supporting actors is a hastle as well... We will have to accept recasting in this franchise eventually... why can't we just accept that and get it over with?

Kill Dunst, and you have solved most of your problem. Tobey will get a lot, but Topher and Bryce are hardly that costly. The rest of the supporting cast wouldn't be too much either.

#1 - Nobody in there right f***in' mind is paying Tobey 26-28 million. I'm not even sure how many actors PERIOD have gotten paid that much for a film.

#2 - Recasting is bad (unless you are doing a series revamp ala Batman Begins). It throws off the audience's connection with the films. James Bond is really the lone exception to the rule. But look at Harry Potter. Warner will do whatever it takes to keep Radcliffe and Ccmpany coming back. The reason? Audiences grow accustomed to following the actors as the characters grow with the role.

But If Harry is the hero we all think he will be... Dunst won't be dying... the only guy I think is a no brainer is Jameson... but he will not be pennies... if 250 million + was barely enough for one movie... I can understand why it wasn't done back to back... obviously money is a big part... you can't just throw everything at the actors... Xmen was so close to having major recasts and look at how much money they had to dish off... and that was only for the third installment... it ain't pennies buddy

And Spidey was so close to recasting Tobey. They could've gone cheaper and brought in Jake. Instead, they ponied up $17 million and brought back Tobey. Why? Audiences loved him as Pete. Why risk the change?

But the X-Men movies had bigger stars. In the Spider-Man movies, you just have Tobey, Kirsten, and Franco really. Everyone is minor, and don't cost much.

I know Tobey is at least at 21 if not 25... So it will be at least 24/25 million... but recasting won't be all that bad if it wasn't a cliffhanger... Sony had this in mind and knew they couldn't end this on a cliff hanger... I'm telling you there won't be a final scene where Tohper is engulfed... just the symbiate escaping at most...

Which is fine. I just don't want to see Venom. That would just suck.

We know they got the money to bring back everyone... but won't they use some of the money to thank themselves for making three great films instead of investing it to make three even more expensive ones... Sony is a large Co. they got a lot of other things on their minds other than SPiderman.

Until I see that in writing, we don't know how much he's getting for this film.

In bold:

As far as Spidey and Sony, Sony has plenty of other flicks (Da Vinci/Bond), but Spidey is their crown jewel.
