My guess on why the Venom storyline will suck.

Which is fine. I just don't want to see Venom. That would just suck.

But the symbiate escaping doesn't wrap up the story... they are looking for closure... wraping up the GG series... planting the seeds for the next... now I wouldn't mind if Topher was brought back and they brought in a new Parker to start the Venom saga... and I'll add one more comment cause I actually do agree that I don't want to see a rushed Venom... If they can get Raimi and Tobey back for one more and recast Dunst... I wouldn't mind at all... that's just one person that can easily be replaced... the only reason why I am saying recast them is because we are getting two trilogies... so I think it is fitting to have two separate casts just for continuity in each series.

I don't see many other movies consistantly making billions for Sony.

By fitting Venom in this movie, the GG2 story will be rushed or scrapped. You see, rushing Venom effects the movie in many more ways than just hurting Venom. It hurts the whole movie.

As far as Spidey and Sony, Sony has plenty of other flicks (Da Vinci/Bond), but Spidey is their crown jewel.

That's a large responsibility and an investment regardless... easy for a SPidey fan to say... not an easy decision for the movie producers or whoever is in charge...

With their prime release date again, and no real competition for two weeks this movie will be huge. plus the hype is enourmous. With the first teaser coming out right at the end of the movie season? this movie will be well enough hyped. Prior to the release the actors will start appearing on late night tv shows and stuff. It will be big.

Agreed... but I can't see how they can get around it... some people wanted Venom in (I'm talking about the writers/producers) some people didn't want him in (Raimi, etc.)... add the math and you get a half ass crappy Venom... just unfortunate but you know every Trilogy has its defects here and there.

Raimi and Tobey have both said they want to come back. I predict part 4 for 2009.

We'll see... I still think this movie will struggle breaking 400... people don't realize how tough it is to get there... the staying power you need to have at the Box Office... people who are saying 450 million easily will surely be dissapointed... again however... it's enough money to make SM4 with the same cast

Which is why I hope they compromise, and put Venom in SM4.

And finally... there is no guarantee... everyone says they'd like to be back or whatever... you know they got a lot on their minds... not saying Tobey won't do it... but if there is another guy out there and Tobey is commanding the 25 million... it will be an awfully difficult decision for Sony.

450 mil is a bit of a stretch, but I think this movie will have more staying power if they build a good story. Flashy movies tend to die down faster than quality summer flicks. SM2 didn't even reach 400, but I think this one will. If nothing else, the black suit should get it there. I still say, Venom can wait one more round.

How can you say that? How do you know until you see it?

I have my doubts, but I had my doubts when the first one came out as well... but you can't just say VENOM IS GOING TO SUCK - no matter what. We don't know yet.

Last night I was around 80% chance of suckage...

now Im leaning towards not suck, after seeing that ONE pic of Topher lookin all Brockish.

I cannot stand when fanboys call him "VINO" (Venom in name only).. It's like, OK, how many freaking Super Hero movies can come out where we have to give someone the "INO" treatment?

That one pic of Brock is crappish. He doesn't look right. I am not calling him VINO, I am just saying that he is going to be rushed and will hurt the movie tremendously if he is in fact, Venom in it. Again, no problem with Brock being in it, but not Venom.

Rushing Venom? Dude it's not like this story takes place over a few years... the entire thing, (finding the suit, taking Peter over, ditching the suit, Brock finding it), can take place in a month, tops... This is MOVIE LAND... remember?

If you draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag it out into two movies we get that damn cliffhanger BS ending, and have to wait YEARS to see the finale of it all. That is nonsense.

Do I want Venom to be in this movie?

YES!

Do I want him to come back in the next?

SURE...

Do I want a long drawn out story about a costume that takes place over 2 movies and 4 years, with possible cast changes in between?

Hell no.

Do the Venom story, and get it done with. Surely, the Hobgoblin story will be a major part here, but who says you cannot have two main villains?!?

Sandman making three? Nah - I think he's just there to mix it up in the beginning, and/or have a few interesting CGI fight scenes.

So even if the Venom story is COMPLETED before the movies end (i.e. Venom being killed/captured), at least have him become who he is and fight Venom. I wouldn't mind a fight where Spidey and Venom are tied, or even Spidey loses, and Venom goes pouncing off in the distance, and into SM4... that's not cliffhanger - that's foreshadowing!

I'm thinking Sandman won't be a major player.

Ya... just the excuse to start the movie off... he'll have a couple battles here and there and maybe he is alive by the final battle... probably like a General Grevious or something while they focus on major storylines (Symbiate, Harry, Love Triangle)...

Not only do you have Venom's story to do, but you have to introduce the Stacy's, the Sandman, his family (I remember hearing his family is in it), continue the Harry story, and not to mention, develop Peter and MJ. All these things, along with Venom, make for a crammed, and rushed movie.

You just have to deal with it... maybe a litlle crammy here and there but we have made the parallels to the first two movies... there isn't a whole lot more going on in SM3 than it had been in SM2...

I have to add... the cliff hanger Spider-fan is looking for is one like the end of Matrix Reloaded... but we knew Revolutions was out like 6 months later so it's okay... (forget the quality of those films)... to have that in Spiderman with a three year gap and cast changes is just a NO-NO... it's should not and can not be done.

They left things open after SM2, and I was fine with it. I am sure people would be if they left this open, also.

When you leave things open... you want them to be subtle with not a lot of explanation but speculation... MJ with a worried look was subtle and perfect... a symbiate engulfing Brock at the end and BAM... Venom laughing his ass off as the credits role ain't subtle... a Magneto moving the chess piece without touching it is subtle... a Venom/Brock severely injured but not seen dead is subtle... that's the kind of cliff hanger you want... leave it open to speculation... just not blatantly obvious... fans are looking for some closure in this flick.

If you want subtle, just have the symbiote leave Peter, but still be out there. Again, problem solved (though I'd prefer the other way, that would work too).

Tell me this... what's wrong with seeing Venom in the last battle as his first fight... but what if I could tell you it was guaranteed that he'd be back... would you take it? Brock gets the suit and becomes Venom... that takes care of the Venom origin earlier than SM4... so he participates in the fight... loses... but is sure to come back... that way we see Venom in action and know he ain't dead... perfect way to start the Venom saga for SM4 with the origin already out of the way...

I don't want to see Venom, have him defeated, and then have him come back. That is repetative. At least Harry would be a new goblin and a different character. Two movies with the climax featuring the same villain is cheap. It isn't the perfect way to start him. I'd rather him be set up.

Well then I am afraid you are at a loss buddy... as much as no one wants to see a crap ass Venom... it's pretty much unavoidable... although Venom doesn't have to come back in SM4... save him for SM6 so people won't get tired of him... I just hope Brock isn't killed off this early... that's a big concern I have right now... we'll see how it plays out in about eleven months... can we please just find a way to role the clock forward?
