My Mom Made It For Me: The Superman Suit Thread

I'd be fine with or without. Because the collar opens up in the front exposing more of the neck it feels like it fits this version of the suit. The open neck would be a welcome alteration as well.

There are things about the suit that I don't really love, but I feel like most things can grow on me. However, the collar will never grow on me. It is the one aspect of the suit that I will always prefer they did without.

I don't like the collar myself, but it's not a deal breaker .

I also iffy on the bulky look of the suit, because, to me , it looks a bit odd Corenswet's large stature, .

If anything, I think the simplier Reeve and Routh style of suit actually would look better for a taller actor like Corenswet, than the current type of suit.

But all that being said, my view comes from the fact that I was conditioned to the type of suits from the Donner films through Returns, and the comics from those times.

So, what I prefer ,and skew towards liking , in a Superman suit ,is pretty much set in stone.

That won't be the case for a generation of children who are first exposed to Superman through Corenswet's version , and James Gunn's vision .

While I may quibble about this or that, younger audiences will be much more receptive to the suit ,because they won't necessarily come in with preconceived ideas of what the suit should look like.

I think once we see how Superman (the man himself) is shot that it might make a big difference to how the suit and his height will really show us Superman, also I think the suit will be a more snug fit and adjusted in editing.

But either way I have dealt with many suits that look goofy but if the man in the suit makes me believe he is Superman then I'm all in.

I don't think seeing how it's shot is really gonna effect my opinion of the suit as far as his height goes , though it could appear more snug once we see the final shot.

I've seen the suit now from the official picture release, to on set , so seeing it on film isn't going to somehow change my opinion of it .

Either way, as I said, I've been preconditioned to preferring the suit to having a specific look to it , so , the film isn't gonna change that for me in particular .

But I can still believe Corenswet is Superman , without being all in on the suit.

I don’t like the suit very much. I have the KC logo tatted on my arm but I think this particular suit would look better with a more classic S.

I think Cavill is an awful actor and the Snyder version was horrible top to bottom… but the dude looked way better in the suit and the suit itself was much stronger.

Not loving the suit isn’t that big of a deal though, won’t affect my enjoyment of the movie. I’ll probably like it more when the movie is out

Just curious why you highlight all "my, I've, for me"? Do you think I was saying you can't have an opinion or that people aren't aware that what you share on here is clearly your opinion as much as what I'm saying is just my opinion? Seems tiresome.

As far as how its shot is just talking about using camera angles and such that will highlight the suit and the actor in a different way than what we just see from BTS looks and the 2 seated shots of Supes that we have been given which I'm guess neither are stills from the film.

I know I don't need to say , " I , My, etc" , and I get that you and others understand what I'm sharing is an opinion .

But as a poster , engaging in a discussion on an issue of taste , I tend to highlight and place emphasis on those words as a means of conveying , " this is where I'm coming from, this is how I feel , but that doesn't mean I'm correct or that you're wrong for liking X or Y".

If anything, I've found, in online discourse, that it people can often make declarative pronouncements a subject , as if it's an objective truth , when really ,they're just stating an opinion .

When it comes to issues of taste, I always place emphasis to people reading , that my opinion is my own , and not some absolute truth.

In other words, I'm making it clear I'm not claiming that my view is the " be all and end all" .
I'm making clear , it's just my own view.

In this case , I'm trying make clear to everyone reading my post , that my biases are effecting how I see the suit .

I'm putting biases on the table , so to speak, to give the reader an insight as to where my opinion comes from.
So while a reader may disagree, they at least have an idea of where I'm coming from and what's shaped my view.

But , that's what I tend to do as a poster .

I think that when you don't do that, some people say "in your opinion". I've had it happen to me.

I think the colors popping out on the suit has become more essential to the character to inspire hope or contrast to darkness. To his enemies. I was looking at the past few Superman suits on 'Superman & Lois' recently, from the past to the present one in season 4, and have to admit the shady darkened yellow on the S logo in season 3 bothered me a bit. The S shield looked good on the first two seasons, albeit, for the whole suit itself, the flat-chest stood out and was a little distracting. It was clear that it was a body suit.

Hoechilin's current Superman suit I think looks good and fairly simple. I might have preferred the S in the third season, minus the shady yellow. Though I think the updated design looks slightly off. I always preferred a 3D `S` added on the suit rather than just painting an S on the suit. But I still never liked the way the cape was positioned on the shoulders. Remember Routh's neckline in 'Superman Returns'? Those two suits--Hoechilin and Routh's first suit stand out as a little off, if we're talking about the front side of their shoulders. Routh's collar neckline looked downright silly.

Routh's Kingdom Come is one of the best Superman suits I've seen, albeit not perfect, it still is a huge redemption over Singer's design for the costume. Perfect cape line on the shoulders. The S was just the right size, and the colors were royal red and blue. He looked like Superman.

You can say what you want about Snyder's Superman, but I think his Superman suits were the best of all suits in my opinion. Of course there's a tweak or two I would change, but overall, the two suits from MOS and BvS were hands down the best.

Looking back on it, maybe it's time to move on from the dark blue. With Cavill's suit. And currently, Hoechilin's blue looks a bit dark. Not that it's so dark, that it's not blue at all, but when you compare and contrast, royal blue just looks better and makes an even better contrast.
