My nephew physically assaulted me.

Matt said:
So calling the police on your nephew is patience and grace?
Romans 13 says police and the military are ministers of God, so it is.

If communist means independent, then I guess so. :D

anyway, I'm sure you would agree that he done the right thing by not hitting him back, and I really wasn't addressing that to you, but to those that are saying he should've retaliated with physical force.

Of course not hitting back. That is a given. Calling the cops was not the correct course of action. I would have talked with him. Tried to understand what drove him to do that. Its not like he pulled out a knife or a gun.

and what is that?

He seems to be the "pick and choose" type.

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Romans 13: 1-7

So you call the cops everytime someone breaks the law then?

Jonty, I think you have seriously misunderstood the message of the Gospel, my friend.

I understand it perfectly well, because Christ has always explained his sayings and it's right there. Let me break it down for you.

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42, NIV)

If somebody strikes you on the right cheek (does an action against you), turn to him the other also (don't be hasty with a response).

If somebody takes your tunic (requires something of you) give him your cloak as well (meet his needs and more).

If somebody forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. (Again if they require something of you, give him that and more).

The third part says the same as the second and third parts of the verse.

Now, I was hasty in my actions with my nephew, I will admit. However, the action I took was right in principle. Even if you disagree with it.

you weren't there, and I think jonty done the best thing he could possibly do under the circumstances. Just because there was a time that he wanted to press charges on his nephew doesn't mean he is unforgiving.

I don't think I could not have hit him.

Instead of nitpicking jonty and calling his faith into play over his desire almost immediatly after being assaulted to seek JUSTICE, you should just be quite about it. He done far better than almost anyone else could have done.

There can only be forgiveness, if there is repentence and reconciliation. If he doesn't repent, there can be no forgiveness given.

If he apologizes, I'm more than happy to reconcile over it.

I guess it's good that you called the authories.
If not he might just keep um..hitting people and it may be someone much
smaller and weaker then him.

If you are someone who was assaulted, I don't see the big deal about your making about it.

Do you or could you have done what he did by not striking back, hindsight is 20/20, but when you haven't seen squat you don't have hindsight.

People need to be held accountable for their actions. It's often the only way to get them to improve their behaviour.

wrong... the Bible says to forgive and doesn't include the the requirement that they repent first. Now, they can choose to reject your forgiveness, but you still must offer it.

According to this, you shouldn't have retaliated by calling the police and trying to get him punished.

Jonty, I'd say you should refrain from saying anything to do with the Bible or religion, because you are pretty much wrong on all counts here.

How the **** did this turn into a debate about religion:confused:

everything here seems to turn into a debate about religion

I'm going to own a resturaunt one day. And yes this statement is somehow ontopic.

Because its you Man-Thing. You know goddamn well if say...Stewie or Thesumofgod or me posted that you would be lecturing the person on their lack of family values.

Furthermore, everything you do on this site is for a response. You praise Jonty because the majority of the people are busting his balls. I don't even really believe you are a conservative (or at least not as much of an extremist as you let on). I think you're just looking for a laugh.

i think you hit the nail on the head here, matt. man-thing is obviously desperate for attention. just look at his avatars and signatures in the past. the delay mug-shot, the brokeback mountain quote, etc... he just does that to cause a stir and to try and rile people up. he's pretty pathetic.

Whatever,
what problem do you have with the south? What injustice was taken against you when every person of the South united and came against you? When did that happen? Was the summer of 94, cause that's when I think all Southerners united to piss sinewave off.
