Need of a Batman Next-Gen Game

Well, what if they were worried about the delay months before the July release?

The thing is, they would have start very soon in promoting the game, otherwise it'd be an unheard of...what? 3 or so months announement and then release?

I think considering what a commercial and critical success the film has become, and considering the number of records its broken, and the fact that comic fans would buy almost anything lol (obviously a few exceptions) that a delay wouldnt affect it that much. I think any die hard Batman fans would buy the game regardless, and a delayed release would make non-fans more likely to purchase it, because more work would have been put into it.

Also, Maybe chris Nolan is actually involved and wants to make sure its as good a quality as the film. I dont know, just throwing theories out there.
Think of Spider-man Web of shadows. We only found out about that recently and its already due in October.
If they are waiting for TDK to have a 2009Q1 release then they have loads of time... Plus, you don't want to reveal a game if its so far behind it looks ****...

I reckon theyre filling the time with Mortal Kombat vs DC and Lego Batman (that is, if theyre making a Batman game at all)

All this glider talk sounds badass. But I'd also like access to the bat tank and the batcycle. I don't know about y'all, but I'd rather have a DC comics Batman than TDK. There's just so much more to work with storywise, and they won't have to worry about continuity, ie not using Bane/Ivy/Grundy/Freeze/Catwoman/Riddler/Penguin because they would possibly be in the third movie.

I'd love an expanded TDK world, so it feels realistic/gritty, but with all the classic villains Nolanized.

Was playing Batman Begins tonight.

And man...was there some serious potential. The game is good, in my opinon.

But there was some potential for a very unique, incredible experience if they'd just taken more time with it.

The reputation meter is a good idea that should have been expanded. I mean, having a Batman that has a rep that's building up...and evokes different reactions from peopel because of it? That's awesome.

Fear meter is another one, where you could amp up reactions just by giving the bad guys a mind **** or two before you strike. Good idea.

And forcing the player to ONLY be able to handle badguys stealthy is a mistake. Even Solid Snake who invented the stealth game can handle the fire. Even Sam Fisher, who's even stricter in the stealth game can stand the heat a little.

Creating a free roam game would also be made easier by the fact that Chris Nolan and Nathan Crawley mapped out Gotham City. They designed the islands and the bridges for Batman Begins, so they had already done half the hard work...which is figuring out where everything goes.

They could still be used too.

The Stealth wasn't all that bad. But what was annoying was waiting around to find out what a thugs weakness was or waiting for a thug to turn around so you could get him from the back... i just don't have the patience.

I thought the game would have been funner with more Tumbler action. if you could have had more options with the Tumbler like blow up anything when youwant. And i thought the Armor for the car was way too weak. I liked the Batman Begins Video Game i gave it like 7.5/10

Thats kind of how Batman operates tho. He finds a weakness then exploits it.

I loved the fear metre in BB. That game really showed Batman as he should be, in the shadows and terryfying the bad guys before he swoops in for a quick take down.

Ive heard people say Batman:Vengence is a great batman game but Ive never played it.. can anyone recommend it?

yeah the fear meter was cool. Batman: Vengence is my fav. better than Batman Begins, imo. if u liked B:TAS or TNBA. then u'll enjoy the game. and it's nice to play from time to time, it's like gettin to see some old friends. the character models in the game were phenom. i wished they would have had Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu the same way, instead of that button masher.

"It's not as if an interactive "Dark Knight" wasn't gearing up before the film's release. Things i would like in a Batman next gen game:

-Open world, Free Roam
-Expanded combat
-Realistic gliding (ex. jump from a tall building, glide long distances, jump from a small building, shorter distance gliding)
-use of gadgets (when i say this, i mean in a sense, you take enemies out with your own means, not something that you have to wait for a message to pop up so you can use a specific item)
-Crime solving (ex. instead of asking pedestrians like in SM2, Batman's radio should be linked to Gotham Police Department, so he can hear the dispatch)
-I would like to see the missions done random, like in the middle of solving a crime, you see the bat signal on, indicating another story mission.
-playing missions as Bruce Wayne, this should be an option during some missions, if a mission requires you to gather information, you should be able to go as Bruce Wayne or disguise yourself to look like a general thug, and gather information before taking the target down.

thats about all i can think of now, if i get some more ideas, i'll be sure and post them :brucebat:

Hm, well that bites.

Ive heard people say Batman:Vengence is a great batman game but Ive never played it.. can anyone recommend it?

If you can find it, it's a great game! It really took the animated series and brought it to life. The rooftop levels are a little linear in the way you can swing around, but regardless, it's still fun to swoop down over your enemies and hear them gasp as they see your shadow fall over them!
The boss battles were fun and the animation was beautiful. My favorite Bat-game by far!

some of these ideas are cool. i like the idea of bein able to disguise as a thug to go underground to get information from unofficial channels.

HUSH could DEFINITELY be adapted for a video game. Think about it! You could essentially play as Batman, Robin, Superman, Nightwing, Huntress and Catwoman.

All they would have to do is play around with it a bit to give you playable characters. Villains? Catwoman, Killer Croc, Ridler, Joker, Harley Quinn, Hush, Clayface/Jason Todd, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Two-Face.

It would be WICKED if there was a VERSUS mode that you could pair up any HUSH character for a battle once defeating the game. Think about it! Krypto the Dog Vs. Killer Croc! Catwoman Vs Scarecrow! Superman Vs The Joker!

It would be fun and it wouldn't be boring! It would be non stop action. For a movie that's lame, but in a game it's essential.
I stick by this.

Another one Bites the Dust

Well thats settled then, I will try and track down Vengence in my local preowned stores!

vengeance kinda sucked.

anyway, i don't know what's so hard in making a new batman game.

just make the game a total rip off of gta iv with batman skins, villains, locales with a new storyline and you've got a great batman game.

hell, losing the cops in your batmobile/tumbler would be great.

Vengeance was probably the best Batman game, but that's not saying a whole lot. It's fun the first time through, but it has no replay value at all since there are no secrets to find and it's extremely linear. I had it for Gamecube a few years ago and I ended up selling it a few months after I beat it. It's an enjoyable romp through Batman's world and if you can get it for cheap, you won't likely be disappointed.

The one Batman game that I will admit I've played far more than I should have, was Batman Forever for the SNES. The game kind of sucked, but I was too young to know better, so I kept coming back no matter how hard the game punished me for playing.

Vengeance was good. But, the controls were a little sluggish for my taste. Aiming with the batarangs was a little difficult too. I remember thinking the driving wasn't so good either. But, it was like a nice long episode of Batman the Animated Series.

I still think Batman Begins is the best Batman game. With Vengeance second to that. Although...if you consider past-gen games...The Adventures of Batman and Robin and Batman the Animated Series are probably the best games featuring the Dark Knight.

I just pre-ordered Lego Batman too.

I'm already considering that to be the best Batman game ever made, now. I mean...unless some kind of catastrophe of unique porportions occur...Lego Batman must be on it's way to be best Batman game made.

Bat signal goes out for ‘Dark Knight’ video game … no one answers

By DERRIK J. LANG

The Associated Press

“Lego Batman: The Video Game” is the only Batman-related video game on anyone’s schedule right now.

For the first time in the film franchise’s history, the Caped Crusader flew into movie theaters without a video game attached to his utility belt.
Despite a plethora of “Dark Knight” action figures, bobbleheads and T-shirts sweeping in Bat-dollars beyond the film’s $400 million record-smashing box office, no “Dark Knight” game is following suit.
Whatever held things up caused $100 million in sales to be missed, according to estimates.

It’s not as if an interactive “Dark Knight” wasn’t gearing up before the film’s release. Game publisher Electronic Arts had the rights to make a “Dark Knight” title, which EA-owned developer Pandemic Studios was working on, according to an EA manager who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the matter is proprietary.

Gary Oldman, the actor who plays Gotham City Lt. Jim Gordon, said in a recent interview with cable network G4 that he had seen a “tiny little piece” of “The Dark Knight” game and described a sequence with Batman realistically gliding across rooftops. Oldman also said the game is supposed to feel like it “doesn’t stop and start.”

Beyond that, details have been as concealed as Bruce Wayne in the Batsuit.

Speculation about the cause for the disappearing act has included missed deadlines, Heath Ledger’s death, questionable quality and poor sales projections.

The last game with the 2005 “Batman Begins” featured the voices of the film’s stars and came out with the movie. But it sold only 587,000 copies.
A “Dark Knight” game isn’t on EA’s release slate through March 2009, according to the EA manager.

That doesn’t mean gamers will be without interactive incarnations of Batman, the Joker and Two-Face this year. Warner will release “Lego Batman: The Video Game” in September.

In November, DC Comics characters such as Batman, the Joker and Catwoman can duel in Midway’s fighting game “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.” And later this year Sony Online Entertainment will shine the Bat-signal on a virtual Gotham City in the new massively multiplayer online role-playing game “DC Universe Online.”

First Details On The New Batman Game

As it stands, nobody has commented officially on the specifics of the next Batman game. Hell, nobody has officially acknowledged that the game even exists. That doesn't mean we can't hear about it unofficially, however. So, courtesy of someone who's already played the game, let's look over the first details on what you can expect from it, and how it's shaping up.

Firstly, our source confirms Pandemic as the developers behind the title, though we pretty much knew that already. Secondly, a good portion of the game is set in a GTA-style rendition of Gotham City, which plays a lot like Spiderman 2 as Batman zips around (he even gets a grappling hook for swingy-swingy when not using the Batmobile) attending to crimes. And thirdly? As was first raised last week, it's not in the best shape, perhaps explaining why the project has been kept in the *ahem* dark for so long.

Seems the combat just doesn't work. Partly due to the game's wonky free-roaming camera system, partly due to the mashy hand-to-hand combat, partly due to the limited range of moves Batman has at his disposal, which makes the whole thing awfully repetitive. Which is a bit of a shame, though realistically, with no official announcement, let alone release date, there's plenty of time to fix that kind of stuff. On a brighter note, another source tells us Pandemic have taken a few creative liberties with the game, and while it's based on The Dark Knight, the game's actually set after the events of the movie, which should at least be interesting from a story-telling perspective.

EDIT: and these posts are from the Dark Knight forums...

so apparently SCi (Eidos' parent company) is making "a batman game"

could this be The Dark Knight Game people have been speculating about for almost a year and a half?
