New Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie In The Works? - Part 2

Turtles Forever ftw. Though they made the 80s Turtles a bit too silly at times. They weren't like that all the time in the series. And I love the 1990 film, I even think it's underrated, doesn't have that genre-classic status it deserves.

Here is how I would rank the feature films of Turtles

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (4/5)
2. Turtles Forever (4/5)
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze (3/5)
4. TMNT (2/5)
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 (1/5)

You read my mind

Anyone read this from Liebesman on LatinoReview:

Did you think fans would go that crazy on altering one minor detail in the back-story of the Ninja Turtles? Did it make you happy in the sense that it’s a sneak peak of how enormous this movie is going to be?
Jonathan Liebesman: I think it’s incredible to see how many fans there are and how much passion they have. That was great! But it was a quote taken completely out of context that Mike had said and he wasn’t given a lot of time to talk about it. The irony of it is
that I’ve been locked in a room for 2 weeks with Kevin Eastman who created the thing,
literally sitting there with him. Any thing that we do is going to be completely tied in
with the mythology. No one’s throwing anything out. It’s stuff that’s near and dear to me too; I grew up with it in South Africa. I think that when the fans see what Kevin has been wanting to do for a while now, because we have the budget and we can do a lot of these ideas and expand on a lot of things, the fans are going to go *****ing ape*****. They’re going to love it! It all ties in with the mythology in the smartest way.

Who’s you’re favorite Ninja Turtle and who’s your favorite Ninja Turtle villain?
Liebesman: I love Raphael. I think he’s a lot like me, I feel the same way, he’s a very cynical guy and he wonders why they’re still relevant today. He’s kind of like the Daniel Craig of the Turtles. And then I think Shredder is awesome, Krang’s great, but I like the Obi-won/ Anakin-thing going on between Shredder and Splinter.

Is it going to be CGI for the turtles or a mix?

Liebesman: Well, I was blown away by the CGI in The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I was too. It was in the eyes; that’s what did it for me. The eyes looked so realistic.

Liebesman: It’s funny, I was just talking to Michael about the eyes. We discussed it for like three hours yesterday, just talking about the eyes. So yeah, it’s going to be like that.

How long did it take for The Rise of the Planet of the Apes to be made? I want to know how it compares to the time table we're dealing with for this film.

And I don't understand the Star Wars reference for Spinter and Shredder. Is there something like that in the comics or something?

Was she actually black in the original comics? Or was ethnically ambiguous (She looked either Persian or Greek to me).

I think they're keep her as a red head white girl. Though Baxter Stockman, even in the new cartoon and IDW comics, he's black, which is great I think. I've always thought in the 80's cartoon, it seems like they were afraid to have black characters hence the Jerry Lewis Baxter Stockman.

I remember reading on a blog on the tmnt website a few years back , that said Kevin Eastman had originally based April O' Neil on his girlfriend ( fiancee) at the time whose name was April and was black, but Laird decided to make her a white red head.

I don't think anyone expected Nolan, but someone with a good track record at least. A good director will accept good scripts or will make changes to a **** script. I say Liebesman is the kind of director that takes anything that's offered to him and listens to every word the studios says. Even though Lebesman will be directing, Bay will have the real power behind this project.

I don't know about that seeing as Liebesman took longer to reply as he was "literally" locked in a room with Eastman kicking around ideas. Not to mention, I don't believe they are doing what the studio says as Eastman has called out on his facebook to fans asking what some of their favorite moments/episodes/storylines of the old cartoon stands out to them. Sounds a lot like they want this to be a show for the fans, despite how much the fans want to complain and rage because the unknown and embargoed information has left them to infer a great deal from very little. (Not saying you are.)

I do agree that a great director can take in good scripts, and sure, he can suggest things for mediocre ones... but at the end of the day the director's job is to interpret and sign off on scripts. He can't polish feces until it shines like diamonds, the best he could do is hire a new writing time. Seeing as we have the MI:4 guys cooking up the script, I'm not scared at all.

This project is interesting because it has the amalgamation of an action-god working the bill, his spiritual successor behind the camera, a fantastic writing team, and the more conservative and grounded of the pair that developed the franchise all working on it. We've got a changed title, and some original ideas being kicked around for an origin (of which, we're not sure what that is yet). But it's all being backed by a company that has been rather "hit-or-miss" with an audience and hasn't managed to produce a big product as of yet.

This movie will either be a home-run, or a train wreck. Honestly, the more I hear about the passion from the director/team, the more confidence I have. Michael Bay rarely, to my knowledge, talked about his giant alien robots and if he did, often times it'd be disrespectful. "I put flames on Optimus because I wanted to." comes to mind. Bay isn't one to shy away from telling it bluntly to protect himself or projects he's working on. In other instances (his producing gigs) he's never, ever, been one to talk about Elm Street, or Friday. Yet here we have him feverishly defending a project, bringing up and exuding tentativeness to fans bi-weekly as of late and the movie is a year and a half away.

...Kind of smells like he cares for the fans this time.

I like his words.

If they want CGI on par with Rise of the Apes, I take it the special effects will be done by ILM?

Who wrote the script for this movie?
The same guys who wrote Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol.

He seemed to be hinting at WETA but seeing as Michael Bay is incredibly good terms with ILM I would venture to guess it'd be them.

I would expect Digital Domain to be part of the VFX crew as well.

I believe he is talking about the inter-clan feud/aggression. How (in the case that Splinter IS a human to begin with ala the cartoon) this order can be perverted and turned against the other. Just as Anakin overthrows the Jedis/turns on Obi-wan.

So they have two solid screenwriters. That's a good start. It'd be interesting to see what Liebesman can do with a decent script for once.

I have no issue with them being fully CG, so long as they get a decent budget and FX team to work on them. The only issue with CG characters is that you don't want it to fully be April's story due to the cost of having them onscreen for so long, though technically we would be seeing it through her narrative like in the original 80s pilot.

i saw some of MI:GP but not a lot it cut off when they were in the kremlin but what i saw it seemed fun how did it end

Oh, I see. I keep thinking they're going with Splinter being Yoshi's pet rat, not Yoshi himself.

Not to get off subject, but I was just thinking about the whole evolution on the TMNT franchise, and how it became such a popular property in the late 80's among kids with the Fred Wolf Toon, when in actuality the whole theme and concept is centered around revenege in the original Mirage comics. Yoshi's revenge for Tang Shen against Nagi, Saki's revenge for Nagi against Yoshi, Splniter's revenge against Saki/Shredder for Yoshi, and Karai and the Foots revenge against the turtles for Saki/Shredder. Pretty dark material.

They might be, I'm just guessing as to what he meant. Even if it's Yoshi's pet rat I suppose you could draw the same conclusion just Splinter would be avenging Obi-wan. :oldrazz:

Say what you will about this and Jonathan Liebesman's track record, but I love his enthusiasm for this project. He sounds like a big TMNT fan at heart who just wants to please all of the fans out there just like him.

I may have been displeased with the initial "Turtles will be aliens" announcement, but, unless I hear anymore bad news, I'm looking forward to see what Liebesman has in store for the rest of us.

The same guys who wrote Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol.

Did not know that until just now. I loved MI:GP, so that gives me confidence the script will be good.

:hehe: Maybe. It's also possible they're going with something like this...

Like the Shredder, thats about it. If this movie IS a success I hope we get the REAL Bebop and Rocksteady in future films. Only more serious and threatening.

I don't like the outfits for the turtles. If they're going to be teenage ninjas, it doesn't make sense for them to wear samurai garb. If their going to have outifts I would hope they modern but still capture the spirit of a bad*** ninja.

...Kind of smells like he cares for the fans this time.

Or he's making sure that he doesn't cause unneeded negativity for Jonathan's sake, whom is passionate about the TMNT mythos for sure.

Which isn't a bad thing...
