New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

See the logo showing up in Disney's 2019 slate didn't mean a thing. I look forward to next year for another delay.
The logo was an official statement this movie was going to be released theatrically in 2019. The fact that it got delayed again is mostly due to them trying to find a spot for all FOX movies in their schedule. There are many movies that were victims of yet another delay. Ad Astra, Avatar (which is being pushed back a year since 2014), even their own Artemis Fowl. But it probably looks like they found their place now. Disney is not the scheduling mess FOX was. Most of the times when they say a movie will come out at a specific date, it does. There are exceptions of course but they are far more punctual, so even though I too said before another delay was very likely, I now find it much more unlikely.

I do think Disney is waiting for Dark Phoenix to come out and then they'll announce what will happen to New Mutants.
Well, they basically just did. They confirmed theatrical release. Again. But now with a new date that they've set.

How is delaying a movie and announcing a new theatrical release date a sign it could end up being released into a streaming platform? And if that was the plan I don't see why there was a need to move this back almost a year to do so. It's probably either a scheduling thing or a need to meddle with this movie more in order to fix it a bit more to their liking. I honestly don't see any evidence to prove otherwise other than rumours and wisful thinking.

Just like I think Feige will wait for after Dark Phoenix comes out before he talks openly about his X-men.
That I totally aggree with. We'll hear more when that universe is officially done.

How many more delays before you people accept the obvious ? If this movie keeps getting delayed up until 2030 would you still think its getting released theatrically ?

Not only I'm instantly in the category of "you people" even though I've acknowledged time and again how problematic this movie feels, but at the same time you completely ignore any arguments I've made in my post without providing any counterarguments of your own. Constructive dialogue.

If Im ignoring arguments so are you as you won't even accept the possibility of this movie never releasing theatrically. How many more delays will it take for you to admit its not getting released theatrically ? If you cant answer this simple question instead of walking around it you have your own issues

Oh I never said there is no possibility this will not get released theatrically. I said, as of now, it seems the most unlikely scenario and even though there is not much to support it you are presenting it as fact. And to answer the question, I don't know about "us people" but for me, like I said, Disney is a much different beast than FOX in terms of scheduling so if it does indeed get delayed again I'll surely be closer to your stance. But a delay by Disney after the acquisition of another gigantic studio alongside many others of the same studio does not by any means indicate streaming for me.

Ten times? Right now what Disney is doing is just beating the dead horse.

I dont think this will ever come out in theaters. I see them quietly releasing it on D+

They deserve a theatrical release but that horror vibe needs to go.

I see this as, if Disney cancels New Mutants' theatrical release before Dark Phoenix's June 7th release, that would negatively impact the latter's box office chances. It's akin to Kevin Feige openly discussing *his* X-men movies (which you agreed with) or worse (better?) yet showing a mutant cameo in Endgame.

For better or worse, Dark Phoenix's gains at the box office are Disney's gains. Feige and Iger and Disney won't do anything that will handicap those gains. Up to and including cancelling New Mutants NOW BEFORE Dark Phoenix has had its shot.

Hmm, that's a fair point. Still, I think if the plan was to wait for Dark Phoenix so that they could remove New Mutants later from their slate they probably wouldn't have altered the original (third) release date so that they can change it yet again. It doesn't look that good for them if they cancel it after all that drama and the constant delays, especially now that they supposedly set their new properties in order. But ok, this is the first actual argument I've heard so far on the matter.

I have zero clue as to what if any contractual agreements Fox had/has with the X-Men franchise but could a contract for X-Men or X related movies to air on HBO be what's stopping New Mutants from going to a streaming service? At some point won't reshoots become problematic to some extent? I know most of the actors looks probably won't change much at this point but unless they use cgi I bet the reshoots will be easy to pick out just from the actors maturing. It could also be that you'll only notice if you make it a point to look for it thing. I clearly haven't followed this movie like you guys have and that's just a couple thoughts I had.

If Disney was going to cancel this or edited whatever they have and send it to some kind of streaming service we wouldn't be getting this announement. They made it 'their responsibility' now rather than having it be a Fox movie that's dead in the water.

The same Disney that canceled a Tron sequel, an announced Inhumans film and a foX film featuring mouse pirates that already hired cast members.

Disney have their own line of Marvel films, the ones that they are developing from the start. While the New Mutants is just an eXcess baggage from the old FoX regime. The film doesn't have much incentive to them. The money that they would get from the New Mutants, is five times the money that they would get from a MCu film.

All those cancelled projects were never in production. If there were no plans to put New Mutants in theaters they would completely remove it from their schedule like they did with Gambit. I understand the streaming argument as a possibility even after the latest announcement but thinking it is the most likely scenario and treating it with certainty even though nothing official ever supported that theory, tells me that's basically wishful thinking.
I, on the other hand, am thinking it could also be a means of filling the gap by adding the accustomed third Marvel movie next year.

Let me ask you this. Do you think Disney, at this point, has no plans on releasing this theatrically or do you think that circumstances will likely prevent it from getting released theatrically regardless of current intentions?
