Jessica Drew - a.k.a Spider-Woman is getting a new look, her first significant costume alternation since her creation and original costume design by Maie Severin in 1977's Marvel Spotlight #32.

The new look deduted Thursday morning on USA Today and was designed by artist Kris Anka. The costume will make it's proper Marvel debut first as a playable character in the mobile game Spider-Man Unlimited, then in comics with March's Spider-Woman #5 - which will feature a "design variant" cover by Anka.

Tatiana Nahai, product manager for Gameloft called the redesign "functional" and "cool," and something she herself would want to wear. "She's sexy but not in a spandex way — in a modern, unique way."

Series editor Nick Lowe stated that he'd been planning a redesign for Spider-Woman since he took over the Spider-Man titles at Marvel in March, and although it didn't debut when the series did in November it was well underway.

"To operate on the level she wants to, she needs something that can pass for semi-normal and she can turn it on to crazy if she needs to," Lowe told USA Today.

Series writer Dennis Hopeless said the design will go along with a move street-level approach for the series, something he considers as a return to the character's 1970s roots.

I kinda like it. Reminds me of Kate Bishop. Or the new Batgirl design. Honestly, if this becomes a trend, I don't I'll miss the big body condoms.

I wonder if this might be testing the waters for a potential MCU look.

Pretty much everything is done with the movies in mind these days.

Ughh, modern costume design strikes again

I was no fan of her body paint look, but why does every female in Marvel Comics have to be in some SHIELD/BW inspired body suit??
boring and ugly

plus why is every new girl costume designed to be cosplayable for under $10? Cosplay requires dedication and wasting inappropriate amounts of money, dammit!

I was all set to criticize it (it doesn't look like a hero's costume), but the ability to blend in for more undercover work is a fair point.

Loved her regular costume. Could just be that I don't like this artist, but so far this new costume looks bad to me.

well atleast we know marvel is paying attention to batgirl. good job marvel

I actually really love it (I also love the Batgirl design). The part I miss the most is, strangely, the mark, which is probably the most ridiculous part of the costume. I don't mind the glasses, I was just fond of the mask.

Is the jacket going to be pointed or not? In all the art I've seen, they have gone with the straight cut, and admittedly the whole idea of a belt slung low on your hips like that is pointless and difficult to wear (if you've ever tried it). But I like the pointed jacket better, it adds a little more angles to the design.

I agree. I think it might be the artist, for me too.

Maybe it needed more iteration. I don't know. But, to go from her very iconic look...to that, it needed to be better.

Also looks like they literally wrote a (flawed) love letter to the new, and better, Batgril redesign. And I love the new Batgirl redesign.

I love it. It has the Kate Bishop look too it but the downside for me is the artist because his style of art can pull this off. So when a new artist comes along, I don't know if it will work as well.

Its about damn time as she's had the same costume for decades. She should have updated ages ago. Seems very reminiscent of Wonder Woman though

Kinda reminds me of the Old Man Spider concept where the jacket can be used as street clothes or the costume.

While I will miss the old look I do like this one. It actually looks wearable.

I'm rather fond of this new design...... but I can't say I'm a fan of the (arguably) kneejerk reaction responsible for it.

Practical? Yes? Good looking? Yes

I do like the look and I do enjoy the realism and practicality they want in comic book heroes now a days. Furthermore I don't care for the old costume at all. However, I feel this push towards is kind of sucking all the fun out. I feel Batgirl's with the cowl and cape looks and feels more heroic though than this. And if they want a realistic, practical approach then how do her glasses work? At the touch of a button all that **** comes out???

Apparently. Why? Do you find something wrong with that?

Werent you just asking about those glasses?

Werent you just asking about those glasses?

Ah yes, that. I am curious how they work? Where does all that kibble come from with the push of a button? I'm sorry but the ******* skeptic in me has to know.

Comic tech. It doesnt look that elaborate. Its just some red colored material that adheres to her face. Its not that big either

I have a question about her. Can she still fly? Just hit me that this costume design doesnt look like one one you'd typically see on a character with flight as its very grounded

Hmmm, good point. But she does have those nice Ditko web gliders.
