The meaning of the hair, of why its been the way its been for so long, is that it symbolizes "the wild man". A man borderline-animal. He looks unkept and scruffy.

Jackman looks like he went to a hipster salon for his monthly touch-up.
The only time he's looked like "the wild man" was in X1 (my personal favorite look) and in the hideous wigs used in X3. X2 he was loaded with product and looked, as you say, like he had just came from a salon. Origins was a 2 hour herbal essences commercial, with his long beautiful flowing hair.

For starters, the Cockrum comparison is getting old. It looks nothing like that particular Cockrum panel. The hair in the panel is slicked back with the horns up back. Jackman's hair is combed forward like every 20-year-old kid in skinny jeans that attends the college I work at.

It's not getting old, it's just that we're right and you have nothing to defend it with other than acting like it doesn't matter. But it does. It's proof that he's been drawn that way in the comics.

Second, you clearly don't know much about the character if you think his hair style/length doesn't matter. For 40 years - its mattered. It mattered to Bryan Singer & it mattered to Darren Aronofsky (who actually addressed it in his draft & gave it meaning).

Please. Let's not play 'I-know-more-than-everyone' game. Everyone here has offered up evidence or opinion that more than qualifies them all as fans. We're on equal footing here, even if we disagree...

Despite the fact that you need to lament the loss of Darren Aronofsky's take on this project, you will have accept the fact that he is no longer on this project and move on.

If Chris Evans had a buzzed head in The Avengers, it woulda been a HUGE problem. Nobody would care about "updating" him to a more modern look, nobody would justify it by making fun of the outdated look, people would be upset. That's not "fanboys being ********", its fans saying "that ain't the character".

Hugh doesn't have a buzzcut. He looks like Wolverine has been drawn in the comics. You're confusing not liking it with getting it wrong.

The funniest thing about some of the justifications I keep reading for why his hair is off, is that they all attack the classic look. "It looked silly, ridiculous, etc."

Wolverine's hair has never been silly or ridiculous. Its iconic and part of a persona some consider to be the best in the Marvel stable.

Yeah, there's good evidence that he's had some awful wigs in the films. They may have looked fine in the films to you, but again, everyone's entitled to an opinion..

Which dried magically seconds after escaping Weapon X.

Oop. But when it wasn't dried out, it was stunning.

So if the next Punisher movie stars Denzel Washington as Frank Castle, its wrong of me to complain about his skin color because ONE Punisher comic [out of hundreds of Punisher comics] exists where he's black?

Also, I still don't think he looks anything like the Cockrum panels being posted. In those panels, the hair is still the classic look. Jackman's hair is combed forward not slicked back.

Btw, my daughter is sitting right next to me and agrees [in her own words] "Jackman does not look like the character in the Cockrum panel. His hair actually looks like Andrew Garfield's in ASM."

Maybe its time she opens an account here.

And we'll just go round and round with people offering their opinions of how his hair looks compared to the comics, regardless of who else signs up.

The point you're missing is that you're not the only person who reads the comics and you're not the only person who with an opinion on them. Deal with the fact that other people see things differently than you instead of insisting that you're right and everyone else is wrong.

Never said I was right and everyone else is wrong.

Just saying that doesn't look like Wolverine to me.

On another note, I had completely forgotten about the grizzly man look Jackman has at some point in the film. That discards my theory that he refused to wear wigs in this film.

Except for the fact that you're pulling out the "I've been a fan since _______ " to invalidate others opinions on the matter. You might as well be writing that you're right and everyone else is wrong.

No, you're acting like you're right and everyone else is wrong, and like you're the only person here who understands the character. It's getting tiresome. How many times do we have to go through this?

I posted this earlier & I think it perfectly emphasizes the point I'm trying to make:

If the next Punisher movie stars Denzel Washington as Frank Castle, is it wrong of me to complain about his skin color because ONE Punisher comic [out of hundreds of Punisher comics] exists where he's black?

Well, if you were making the argument that Frank Castle had NEVER been black in the comics, and someone posted panels from a comic showing that Castle had been black at some point in the comics, however brief it was, it would invalidate your argument that Frank Castle had NEVER been black in the comics.

And that would leave us at the same place we are right now.

You're saying using a shorter hairstyle for Wolverine is akin to changing Frank Castles racial background and skin color?

I don't know where to begin to point out how much of a logical leap that is not to mention the hyperbolic fallacy basis of it.

It's obvious you're dead set on bringing this hairstyle thing up whenever you get the chance.

Again, how does ONE comic (that I still don't think resembles what we're getting) supersede thousands of comics?

Its never been a question of "was he ever depicted that way?" but rather "why are they choosing to deviate from his iconic [and most consistent] look?".

There's been alotta depictions of Wolverine in the comics, but really only one primary look - a look that actually represents the essence of the character. That's why its stuck for so long.

The purpose of my question was to elaborate how ONE depiction can't [or at least shouldn't] trump thousands.

In summary, you like the new hair, I don't, end of story.

As nearly everyone here has pointed out...Wolverine has had many looks, and they've provided the comics panels and shots from the movies to prove it. You're the one falling to pieces over every set photo that deviates from your perfect vision of what you want it to look like.

Who the heck is that guy in the middle!?

I feel that I would recognize him if only his hair were longer. Otherwise it's a complete enigma as to who this fella is supposed to be!

I dont really think his new hair looks like any of the comic pictures posted but they are still trying to emphasize the sides so I dont think any of it it will matter as long as he acts more like comic Wolverine and less then X Men Origins Wolverine. Better then using a wig. As long as hes got claws and Jackmans playing him, people know its Wolverine.

As a big Punisher fan as I am, I would have no problem with a black man being cast as the character.

My dream for the film are
Showing Wolverine In full beresker fury.Duel with Shingen and Wolverine loses.Hooking up with Yuriko after Mariko has married and Shingen has defeated him.Wolverine goes through many Ninjas and The Silver samurai before facing final rematch with Shingen and Shingen Is killed.Mariko Is poisoned by Viper.Wolverine has final duel with the Silver samurai.Mariko begs wolverine to end her life quickly after refusing he finally relcuently agrees. The film ends with Wolverine at Mariko's grave.Yuriko tries to convince him she loves him and he belongs to her.He just walkes away ready to put Japan behind him

That would be great If they do something like that.It would silence some deteractors.

Can't believe we're gettin Wolvie Vs [BLACKOUT]Ninjas![/BLACKOUT]

Now if we can just see him tear a Sentinel to shreds, I can die happy
