NFL Offseason & Waiting for the Swifties Return Thread

The Pats will be a better team with Drake Maye than they will be with Brissett. The only danger is that the NE O line kinda sucks. I've watched a good deal of Maye. This guy needs to work on his decision making, BUT he makes god throws. His confidence in his arm is sky high, but he'll hopefully learn to figure out what he can and cannot do at the pro level.

Unless I'm completely wrong, yeah.....it's happened, and Maye bombs in training camp (unlikely IMO), there is no way Maye isn't a day 1 starter.

The idea that the Pats can contend with the Fins or Bills no matter what, is off the table. They are rebuilding and it doesn't matter who's taking the snaps. They can't even contend with a healthy Jets team unless Rodgers falls off a cliff (figuratively speaking).

So in other words Patriots fans should just accept it's going to be a challenging rebuilding season with a losing season being the most realistic result.
Even if Maye can be a reliable starting QB at the pro level the flaw of the Patriots O Line being terrible isn't some minor issue much like a Car with 3 Flat Tires.

Also the Patriots defense isn't going to be the 2000 Ravens where the Ravens were able to win a Super Bowl mainly because a terrific defense, and Dilfer just had to be a game manager not Brett Farve, Joe Montana, or Dan Marino.

I think it's EXACTLY like a car with three flat tires and they'll work just about as well as one. :funny: If they can somehow cobble together a decent O line (not likely IMO), they can be a low, middle of the pack team and win maybe 7 games, but that's the very, very best scenario. I think they'll win maybe 4 or 5 games.

The main thing they should do it make sure Maye doesn't get killed or have his confidence shot. I don't think the latter will happen, but it's still a concern.

Waddle is a very good receiver and if Miami can get Hill out of people's bedrooms and on the field, they'll have a very good WR group.

Looked the dude up and he looks like a beast, but I would've thought he'd be an O line prospect.....he's "only" 265 though.

As a Titans fan I enjoy with what was a great draft since realistically they may have built a strong defensive line that can be a challenging force for foes, also they've filled in possible holes including a drafted WR that they are hoping can be that great reliable deep threat WR which the Titans have had to fix after the unwise decision to resign AJ Brown that is another Julio Jones.
They only drafted 1 Offensive lineman so I'm surprised because that's putting a lot of hope that they have a reliable offensive line with a Rookie Offensive Line Player and 4 other not rookie offensive line players.

While Chargers fans can be hopeful that the Chargers in the Coach Harbaugh era can be an improved team that makes the Playoffs instead of finding ways to choke in close games much like in past seasons.
It is ridiculous if any Chargers fans have the unrealistic expectation that year 1 of the Harbaugh era will have the Chargers playing in the Super Bowl. It's unlikely that they can get past the Bills, Chiefs, Dolphins, or the Bengals.
Realistically I can see them defeating the Texans, Raiders, or some other not great team in Los Angeles in a Wild Card game. That is a realistic expectation for how far the Chargers can go in Year 1 of the Harbaugh era.

It's the season of optimism.....aka the months after the draft and before the season starts. Then reality rears its ugly head. :funny:

The Chargers have a shot at the playoffs. They lost a lot in the offseason, but picked up a stud O lineman (as did Tennessee) and I think McConkey is going to surprise people. He can be a true #1 in this league. I'd give them an A. Their season could go either way, but maybe Harbaugh can bring something to the team.

The Titans on the other hand, are a little harder to read. IF Sweat works out (and that's not a given), they'll be okay, but I would grade their draft a B.

It's always a guess as to how a team comes together, but I see the Titans easily in the bottom half of the NFL. I'd give them an edge over teams like the Pats, Panthers, and Denver (depending on how Nix works out.....I've heard some really good things about him so far, but who knows). I frankly throw them in with teams like AZ, Commanders, and Raiders (and I'm a Raider fan).

Miami could be making a mistake. While I personally think quarterback salaries are nuts, that’s what people are getting paid. What are the Fins going to do if he plays out his rookie contract this year and just walks? He’ll get big money elsewhere and Miami has virtually no chance of replacing him with anyone near the same quality.

The thought that management is concerned about his concussions has definitely crossed my mind, but still, he had a hell of a year last year.

WELL.......it's a new season to rebuild teams and hopes.....for most teams, these are two things that are likely to come crashing down once the 2025 season gets underway, but, for now, let's dream a little dream.

The Raiders hit big with a QB in round 2 (LOL), a WR in round 3, and a corner in round 1.

I don't see them getting their QB with the 6 pick because it would mean that both the Titans AND Browns pass on a QB (Giants are taking a QB) AND no one trades up to 4 or 5 (Raiders "might").

Wow......that would be a big one.......I think he'd do great in Pitt. He takes their ceiling to a whole new level. Being stuck on Jacksonville is a curse. It's just a terrible organization.

Personally I think the Steelers should just give the keys to Fields. They played their best with him this year.

Totally agree. Earlier in this thread, I said this after the first?? or second?? game he started. They are going nowhere other than playoff mediocrity with Wilson (and I say this with a smile on my face). I think that Lawrence, however, can get them there, but he would come at a higher price.

Yeah......go with Fields......and I think the Bears would have done well to do so also.

if the steelers get Lawrence, i wonder who they'll pursue down in Jax eek

It prolly won't matter. That's just a terrible organization. Maybe Gardner Minshew or Jimmy Garoppolo will be available. I just don't see what Pitt has to offer that could pry Lawrence away from the Jags, but if I'm Lawrence, I'm drooling at the thought of playing for Tomlin.

If I'm Pitt, I'm looking for a top shelf corner to pair with Porter and a WR who can stretch the field (Higgins makes a LOT of sense) and some D line help.

Probably not a bad call. They sure need it. They need a lot of help, but have a lot of cap space and good draft capital (4 of the first 77 and 5 of the top 107). I don't think they need to trade away #4 if they can get a real impact player, but it's not a bad way to go to trade it. Either could work out for them. They need to get Maye some protection and weapons and they'll do fine.
