The Dark Knight Nolan on picking Jonah to write TDK

naaah... calm down. even if jonah nolan is a fan of the dark knight returns it doesn't mean we'll get a frank miller batman in the dark knight. i mean, christopher nolan is the director. the script is being written for him, to help him create his vision for the new movie. anyway, christopher nolan is already doing script revisions.

This film is already promising to be darker than BB, with the rumored plot to be about Bruce becoming darker and forgeting about his bruce wayne life. if that dosent open up possibilites of a-hole bats, than i dunno what does. but, we'll see

what you've mentioned aren't plot rumors. this is one of the ideas made up by fans.

The guy can't win. First of all it was: "This guy doesn't even know Batman. Bring back Goyer!"

Now it's: "He's a fan, fans can't write good scripts. He'll make Batman DKR"

Yeah, the fact is, a lot of posters there had already made up their minds about the movie before they actually saw any footage. I decided to take the opposite approach and see the movie without any preconceived notions of what it should be. And I enjoyed it a lot.

A restart was a good thing for the Batman franchise cuz the character hadn´t really had that kind of fully-developed origin story. As far as I´m concerned, Donner told everything I needed to know about Supes´ origin in the first movie. We had a retelling of the origin in TAS, even Smallville is kind of a VERY extended origin story, the last thing the world needed was the whole "Krypton explodes, Kal-El is sent in a ship, lands on Earth, gets adopted" thing all over again.

Don't wanna get too off topic here, but I couldn't agree with you more. The last thing in the world I wanted to see was another Superman origin story. Now I don't really think making a sequel to the previous Superman movies was the right direction to go, I definitely understand why Singer chose to go that way, and I think the movie turned out alright. Not great, but pretty good.

Personally, I would've like to see a restart of the franchise similar to the way Batman '89 was; not an origin story, Supes is already established himself as a superhero, but a new franchise and new direction nonetheless. I would've loved to see a straight up Post-crisis Superman and Lex Luthor.

It's pretty fair to say the Donner/Reeve Superman has overshadowed ANY other version of Superman-including the comic books. For this reason alone, it makes sense to stay within the Donner/Reeve sphere.

According to Nolan, the main theme of the movie is things have to get worse before they get better, so in theory, we could be seeing Batman get a little more into the dark side, but there´d still be hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Goyer once said in an interview that their take on Batman was always intended to be more human, and Nolan said in an interview that Batman is a positive force that needs to deal with a lot of negativity, that Batman is how Bruce tries to take his negative feelings and do something positive with them. I think we need not to worry about him becoming full-on a-hole Batman.

Call me selfish, but I want to see batman's character develop over the course of three movies, please.

I prefer to see a "Dark Knight" than a "Light Knight" in TDK.

You want a boyscout go see a Superman movie.

Well, we talked about this earlier. Nobody is suggesting a boy scout.

Batman's not psychotic, he's obsessed. They should push that.

As long as Batman's not an a-hole like he is in "All Star Batman and Robin":o

I know, I was just being flipant. :yay:

But that is my general consensus about Batman, as we talked about earlier.

I haven't heard any of those actually. Especially the first one. If there was any complaints from Batman fans, it may have been Goyer himself. He took some heat for some of the "questionable" stuff.....so, the first comment, never ever heard it.

Totally.

Batman's an a-hole in All Star. He's also obsessed. They should use the obsessed part of that, not the a-hole part.

My problem with people who have a problem with the way Frank Miller is portraying Batman in All-Star batman is that the actions and attitude of Batman in the "All Star" run is the same as what he did in "The Dark KNight Returns" which is highly accailmed by crittics and most Bat fans.

Did these people not read The Dark Knight Returns or was they jumping on a bandwagon that they supposed to like it because "everyone" else is.

I remember people making a big deal about Batman lauging while he was fighting the cops in ALL Star number 2 and yet in TDKR, Superman clearly state that Batman had "that evil laugh of yours" when the government told the heroes to stop there activites.

And some people couldn't believe BAtman would fight cops and yet throughout TDK returns He's fighting the cops and even reflects "fighting cops...it been a long time" and gave the commisioner a punch in the face. A woman at that.

To me the so-call "A-hole" Batman that's in All Star is that same that's Frank Miller ALWAYS been showing. And I wouldn't mind some of his action and attitude in TDK

The difference was 1)DKR Bats is older, his life of obsession has driven him to this state. He's supposed to be a little nicer when he's young and 2)How do cops survive exploding cars?
