Norton Reprising the role of Banner = Up to the fans

I can't believe they decided to recast norton. I'm so pissed, tbh. Terrible choice.

I read Norton's statement, but that still doesn't change my anger towards Marvel right now.

Marvel seems to think that they can run their film division the same way they run their comics division-- the talent is expendable, and ultimately people are still going to buy the product even if they take a sledgehammer to what's already there. In the comics arm of Marvel, Joe Quasada got to keep his job because he was willing to write the abomination that was "One More Day." A better writer would have held his ground and said "no friggin' way. This story is ******ed, and there's no way to make it work. It's just going to piss everyone off." Maybe someone did say that to Marvel, but that's why they're not writing Spider-Man comics.

Likewise, Norton may have been unhappy with aspects of the script for The Avengers, but some high-up bozo at Marvel thought the script was perfect, and theirfore Norton's disapproval of it was a personal offense against the company. SInce Norton is just the talent, not an executive, it makes much more sense to Marvel to give him the boot than it does to let him have any say in the script. After all, the fans still buy comic books even if they fire a great artist and replace him with a crappier one, so why wouldn't they feel the same way when Marvel recasts actors in their movies for stupid reasons?

This could ultimately be what undoes Marvel as a studio, and if they don't get their act together, for all we know Iron Man may be their only real success story.

I lost faith in Marvel after Iron Man 2 to be perfectly honest with you. If that movie hadn't been rushed I'm sure Favs would have come up with something far better than what we got...we who disliked the film ofcourse.

This news is only shocking to people who weren't paying attention to how much of an A-hole Norton is on the set of his films. Some of the comments on here about Norton are silly, why should they let this one actor control their 300million dollar film? A studio would be dumb to let the actors start writing their screenplays especially an actor who has never been a big star. What would he know about making a hit movie?

Red Dragon made 93mill on a 78mill budget. 25th Hour made 13mill on a 5mill budget. Italian Job made 100mill on a 60mill budge but i think it was released twice to help it get too 100mill. The Illusionist made 39mill on a 16mill budget.

Size matters when it comes to boxoffice success, RDJ made more profit for studios with IM and Holmes than Norton ever has. I think thats what I See Spidey is trying to point out. Norton is know for being a great actor but never a boxoffice gurantee. When Norton makes a movie that gets 500mill WW for a studio, then i'm sure Marvel will let him have as much say in a movie like Avengers as RDJ has.

RDJ is apparently the golden child because he plays himself in Iron Man really well.

I absolutely hate this decision, hate it, Norton wasnt spectacular or anything in TIH, but thats because he hardly had anything to work with, given more to work with he could have made an amazing Bruce Banner and now marvel go and just get rid of him and expect us to accept yet another actor in role(I actually liked Bana in the role too).

Not only that, but the future of Hulk as a character is right up in the air now, I honestly think the rumour that they intend to kill him off in Avengers may actually be true.

Marvel dont seem to have a clue what they are doing, from their Fox-like behaviour on TIH, cutting down the run-time, etc, to replacing Terrence Howard and totally rushing IM2 (which I found to be dissapointing).

Its like El Payaso said. RDJ is on a hotstreak, they will listen to him, Norton, is not. But, to be fair to Norton, from what his agent has said, Marvel seem to have taken this decision for money reasons and not because Norton wanted to have a large input.

I'm not writing off Norton's talent, just pointing out that he has never been in a movie that has grossed anywhere near 300mill WW. Marvel took risks with IM and TIH, IM was a huge hit where as TIH wasnt.

Norton hasn't really been in any films that have the slightest chance of making big money (apart from TIH), he tends to do more grown up films rather than mainstream films for the masses.

Norton is critical fav, not a big star. Thats just the truth. Also The Itallian Job was staring Mark Whalberg and Charlize Theron...That was hardly Norton's movie. You can put it on his hit movie resume but I'm not going to play up his role in that flick.

Ofcourse actors have input on their character and Norton deserves that but he is crazy if he think that he is going to be controlling big budget action movies when he is in fact not a big star.

Agreed. I wonder if they could technically not even hire an actor and just use the CG Hulk character instead; thus bypassing the need for Banner to even show up.
