Guardians of the Galaxy Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Firestar is from a Spider-Man cartoon, right? Namorita is probably with Namor. I doubt Vance is with FOX either.

I'm pretty sure that Marvel would own all of the New Warriors, whether they are mutants or not. Yes, just like with Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver they weren't/aren't allowed to call them mutants, but that's of little consequence.

Let's look at each one:

Night Thrasher (Dwayne Taylor): The effective Tony Stark/Fury of the New Warriors. He's got the money and he's the leader and the one that brings the team together. Not a mutant. He's kind of like Batman as far as powers. So he's definitely Marvel's to use.

Marvel Boy/Justice (Vance Astrovik): Yes, he's a mutant, but he's never been affiliated with the X-Men. He has been affiliated with the New Warriors and the Avengers, so he's Marvel's to use. He's their telepath and with connections to the Guardians and Avengers those stories could be used.

Nova (Richard Ryder): We've already established that he's connected to Guardians and that he's Marvel's to use.

Namorita (Nita): The team needs at least one female. All good team-up groups have at least one. Avengers had just Black Widow to start, and X-Men (in Apocalypse - bleh) had Jean. Yes, they could go with Firestar, but Namorita might be a better option. Her powers would be different enough and it would introduce us to the Atlantean concept (mother human/father Atlantean). Doesn't matter that she's a "mutant" as she's definitely usable by Marvel.

Speedball (Robbie Baldwin): Powers are different enough, but would they be silly looking? Maybe, maybe not. But he may not be needed (though he could be comic relief). He got his powers through his job as a lab worker, so he's not a mutant, so definitely not an issue. He's Marvel's. Guess if they focus more on the Kinetic aspect of his powers, and less of the bubbly look, it could work.

So see, these five wouldn't be an issue at all, and this would be plenty. Guess others could be added too, like Firestar (from the Spiderman TV series - though she was an X-Man, so maybe shared) but these five would make for a great TV series or movie!

Wait, so if the Nova Corps are an army in this. Do only a select few have the power of comic Nova? Or just one super powered Nova?

From the comic only NOVA Prime had the higher level of the Nova Force, the energy from which Nova got his power.

The Nova Force is an source of energy first harnessed by the Xandarians. This energy is monitored by the Worldmindhttp://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Xandarian_Worldmind_(Earth-616). It is supposed to be a near-limitless energy source and has many ill-defined capabilities, though its primary power appears to be the ability to manipulate gravity fields.

Members of the Nova Corps are invested with a small portion of the Nova Force, which is the source of their abilities. The basic abilities of a Nova Corpsman include gravimetric flight, reduced need for oxygen, reduced need for food/water, gravimetric shield generation, and various types of energy beam projection.
It's been implied that different ranks of Nova Corps officers control different amounts of the Nova Force, with the current Nova Prime controlling the largest amount and leading the Corps.

Richard Rider, Nova, was chosen at random by Rhomann Deyhttp://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Rhomann_Dey, last surviving Centurion of Xandarhttp://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Xandar's elite Nova Corpshttp://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Nova_Corps, to inherit his power and succeed him in the rank of Nova Prime following the destruction of his world.

In the movie this may be a bit different, but they could easily replace the Nova Force with something like the energy from the Power Stone if they wanted...

I actually kind of hope we see something along those lines in Infinity War. It'd be amusing, if bleak, to see Glenn Close suit up and basically head a last stand to keep Thanos away from the Power Stone.

It would be so damn good to see Richard Rider Nova in these movies. With the Nova Corps in the first movie they set them up so even if we get a Centaurian in this I would be happy.

Here's hoping, but I wouldn't hold your breath unless Gunn's changed his view on him.

Gunn actually said in a recent Twitter Q&A that the reports about him not liking Nova were untrue, or something to that effect

He definitely joked about Nova being lame in the past (I think he said something about the helmet and costume being stupid). Maybe he was just joking though, or is trying to backtrack now.

The Nova Prime suit is awesome, but yeah maybe in the past he was mocking it to throw fans off, who knows.

Here's what he's quoted as saying on Facebook:

“I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans… I have nothing against Nova in future movies, but it doesn’t serve the movie right this moment.”

I agree with this, He should be introduced after Infinity Wars

Then how about as a mid credits scene cameo?

So just like I previously wrote, Xandar is attacked at some point and Nova Prime gives Rhommen Dey the power stone (or something that has the Nova Force). He is ordered to leave and keep it safe, or possibly to get it to someone (hmm, who would be a good character for Nova Prime to try to send something to be guarded, that would be on Terra?).

Rhommen is pursued by some antagonist (maybe Nebula), or his ship is fired upon during the battle and he barely escapes.

At the mid credits we get to see Rhommen crash landed on Earth (Hempstead, Long Island to be exact). He's obviously mortally wounded, ship in the background smoking/sinking into the lake (or something like that).

Richard Ryder is then randomly chosen by Dey to take/guard the stone/force.

One way to make the suit part of it is that the special suit that Dey was wearing (or maybe it's from the helmet) enables him to handle the stone. Maybe the suit is "fueled" by the stone as well. Dey convinces Ryder to don the suit and take the stone and Nova is born...

Then, in either a Phase 4 (or 5) Nova movie, or maybe Guardian's 3, Nova is featured. Maybe at the end of that movie Ryder, homesick (he is supposed to be a 17/18 year old High School senior), he gives up his powers (so Xandar can be restored) or, to fit the theme/Thanos story, the stone/energy is drained/taken by Thanos. Ryder goes back to Earth, and then in a mid or after credits scene we see him working at a diner in the city, obviously kind of down on his luck since (logically) he wasn't able to finish High School since he was off helping to save the universe. He locks up and heads out to put the trash bag he's holding in the dumpster when all of a sudden a grappling line wraps around his foot and he's unceremoniously pulled up into the air, the trash bag landing solidly on the ground. Rich finds himself facing a dark figure, wearing a red and black helmet with a clear visor, the assailant's eyes focused on Ryder's, gloved hand wrapped around his throat. The ominous figure says "So, you're Nova?" and he opens his hand, Richard Ryder falling fast towards the pavement below. The camera pans down, following Ryder, focusing on his look of terror, when suddenly a yellow energy starts to emanate from his eyes. Richard Ryder smiles. Cut to black...

I want the Human Rocket in the movie. Really hope the nonsense about Gunn wanting Star Lord to be the only human is gone, half the "aliens" in GOTG looked exactly like Quill.

Yeah, if there was any supposed 'Terran-in-space' uniqueness there sure wasnt a real effort to highlight it, certainly no effort worth keeping at the expense of introducing other humans, anyway.

Yeah I don't get that either, there were plenty of 'humans' in the first movie so introducing another from earth shouldn't be an issue.

They're still aliens though. Besides, unless it's only a cameo, we'd have heard about it by now.

Aliens that look exactly like Star Lord, he doesn't feel or look unique when Nova Prime and half the Nova Corps look exactly like he does. So having another human wouldn't hurt Star Lord or anyone else.

I know he's probably not in it but we have heard that Gunn doesn't want Nova in because he wants Quill to be the only human which I think is stupid.

Aliens that look exactly like Star Lord

Aliens aren't going to have the same fish out of water perspective that a character from Earth has. It doesn't matter if they look similar.

Quill was far from a fish out of water when we meet him in space, he'd been living there for decades

Disagree. A major part of his character is making human pop culture references and things of the like. Hence the Kevin Bacon gag or his shop being named after Alyssa Milano.

That's not exactly fish out of water.

That's not exactly fish out of water.

The point is being from Earth he has a perspective not shared by the aliens. So the people saying it makes no sense for him to not want Nova when there are already aliens who look like humans is completely missing the point of what he was actually saying. That they look like humans is irrelevant.
