Now that Hollywood is seemingly targeting the 90's, what do/don't you want to see?

Mighty Max was a fun toy and that's about it.

I've watched a few episodes. It's okay but one reason most don't remember it is because it was in syndication here in the USA instead of attached to a major kids block or network. Plus there's much more memorable stuff from the 90's.

The more memorable stuff, which I agree with, has already been adapted, is in the process of being adapted, or cannot/is unlikely to be adapted any time soon for reasons detailed elsewhere in this thread. Mighty Max had some pretty good writing for the time, an engaging main arc, and could definitely benefit from a film adaptation. Heck, the toy sales take care of themselves almost! I have to say the series finale is my favorite piece of animation ever for sheer nostalgia.

I don't know how old he is these days, or even if he's still acting, but a couple of years ago Vladimir Kulich was my ideal Norman.

Can you tell I got the Skull Mountain playset for Christmas when I was a kid and that got me into it? :woot:

Oh, the premise could easily be adapted into a cool movie. Quite frankly a lot of the best 90's cartoons wouldn't work as movies.

I'm a firm believer that it's all about finding the right angle. Even DBZ deserves another go. Preferably directed by Snyder, 'cause, come on... After the fight scenes he gave us in Man of Steel, how could that not rock?

They've already been mentioned, but

Gargoyles
Pirates of Dark Water (This series deserves a proper finish)
Xena

I'll add

Freakazoid
Reboot

The Animorphs books are quite good. The TV show is a smelly piece garbage though.

I don't think Sailor Moon would work, all the characters are pretty much Japanese, even if the main character has blonde hair, some of the fan art done gives an idea at what to expect from a project like that, where Sailor Mars usualy ends up as the only one portrayed as Asian.
Not a smart move to white wash the characters then?
But why was she blond in the first place? Did she come from Australia/Europe/America?
Hey wait, Sailor Moon lives in a fantasy world and then it's possible for an Asian girl to actually have blond hair. But did the creators just want to appeal to the western audiences?

Hollywood has proven in the past 20 years that no matter how weird or ridiculous, they can redesign anything into a cool uniform, been proved by most of the latest superhero film releases.
While this is true, Wolverine has yet to wear his yellow spandex, lol. :wolverine

Tales From The Crypt
Seaquest DSV
Animorphs

The Nickelodeon TV show had a shoddy production budget meaning a lot of the cool aspects of the show was heavily nerfed like not showing an actual Andalite but a guy in a costume filmed from the waist up as well as other Alien races not showing up plus it was the 90's. I think if it were made today as a movie it would be done proper justice. Heck it could also be tried again as a TV show now that there are better Sci-Fi shows out there with good quality aliens and CG like Falling Skies.

If it also help K.A. Applegate has expressed interest in bringing Animorphs to the big screen.

^ I agree. Animorphs is such a cool concept that it could be a entertaining film. If Goosebumps does well enough, then I could see a studio greenlighting Animorphs if they see a chance to capitalize on 90's nostalgia.

Here's a cool fan trailer I found which encapsulates on what it could be:

The creator was only one, and no, she wasn't pandering to Western Audiences, when these people write a manga they're not realy expecting Hollywood to take and adapt their stories, they're writing manga because they like the medium, mangas have always been this way, hair color was never taken into account by them to guess where the characters come from, their names do, and so does the setting.

When is whitewashing a good move? Just sends the wrong message and in this day and age it makes Hollywood look racist, i mean, in the 50s and 60s they were known for doing stuff like that, casting white people as Japanese stereotypes or using white people for Cleopatra and Bible adaptations, it's sad that this is still hapening in 2014.

Upon looking at the title of the thread, I thought we were discussing movies based on events/news stories that actually happened in the 90s.

So, based on my error, my immediate thought was a movie about the JonBenet Ramsey murder, directed by David Fincher. I've been wanting that for about a decade now.

More Pirates of Dark Water in any shape or form would be amazing...

Mighty Max, look up it and catch an episode or two, see if you don't come back here thinking like me.

Mighty Max was pretty awesome and was actually pretty dark from what I remember.

I was about to ass The Zeta Project but that came in 2001

A remake of the Super Mario Bros movie is what I'd like.

Cleopatra was Greek, thus "white".
