Apocalypse Official Apocalypse Blu-Ray/DVD thread

Singer doesn't seem to have been as engaged with the script and dialogue as usual, perhaps he really was preoccupied with those allegations.

Thats just a really bad excuse to think better of Singer.

in the long run singer isn't invincible to making just ok movies, Superman returns gets a mixed reception for the most part as some think its boring and while it seems he thought at the time it was a good idea to make it a sequel to Superman 1 and 2 he had later looked back and said really he probably should just have rebooted.

jack the giant slayer is another movie that didn't go down as a classic, infact its a pretty forgettable movie that people try and make excuses for by saying his heart wasn't in it which again is stupid, like his heart is only for X-Men.

In the long run apocalypse was pretty much more singers baby then Kinbergs, perhaps it was an over-ambitious baby for singer but its obvious he was happy with the script, they had enough time to write before they even started casting the young cast, infact it seems like there were several drafts with one having trask in it which was changed.

And we can blame kinberg all we want but he did write DOFP even if it was with help, perhaps the only real difference is DOFP had a more compact story compared to apocalypse with the majority of DOFP being about 3 or 4 characters and Charles being the emotional core of it all.

While apocalypse was trying to be a balancing act for everyone.

Kinberg can't write a good script when his life would debend on it! His rottentomatoes score is devastating! He is clearly not a talented writer.

At least Singer knows how to direct some very good and entertaining scenes out of a very bad script! That's the only reason 'X-Men:Apocalypse' was not a total trainwreck...

Kinberg needs to go ASAP!!!
Why is this even a discussion here is beyond me.Shall we collectively watch "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Fantastic Four" as a double feature together to remember what Kinberg is REALLY capable as a writer?!?!
Singer on the other hand gave us tons of beautiful and timeless material coming from this franchise.

Reminds me of the first 3 spider-man movies, people (who ain't me) liked the first 2 movies and speak so highly of sam raimi for his work on them but fans hated the 3rd movie and it is seen in a pretty bad light as one of the worst comic book movies and yet it was also the most ambitious with its villains, story and characters

Everyone has their good and bad.

Well, I did expect better of him.

Yes, that's true, he's made some underwhelming movies before.

Superman Returns indicates his love for an old-fashioned look/feel/style of filmmaking. He needs to be a bit more modern at times (ditch the wirework and questionable make-up/costuming/hair)

That balancing act didn't quite work, did it? Some characters were under-served.

I wondered today if it would have been better to remove the mansion destruction and Alkali Lake sequences and instead spend more time developing other things.

I think if you took out the mansion destruction and alkali lake stuff people would find something else to moan about since you would be taking out 2 action sequences some to feel are the highlight

Balancing characters is not easy but obviously when they are trying to go back and forth between characters you have to share screen time sparingly and carefully, I don't think DOFP had that issue

Not sure it works that way

If Kinberg is busy with his producing duties with other films, I'm sure Singer/Shuller-Donner/Kinberg/et al wouldn't lose sleep with finding another writer. Pretty simple really :loco:

Wouldn't be surprised Kinberg makes more money from his producing duties.

The editing does deserve some discussion. I wonder what the aim of that editing was stated to be? To bring it down to a specific runtime? To focus only on the main characters?

I raise this because I feel some of the excised material

The movie was long enough as it was back in September 2015, they really couldn't come out with a 3 hour movie, and unfortunately X-men can't be *that* movie. They had to excise a lot of that stuff. :csad:

would have helped the movie by giving more depth to characters such as Storm, who had a significant role in becoming one of the horsemen and then turning against him.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this scene to you when I saw it, and I agree I wish this was kept in the theatrical cut.

I'll also say the movie didn't need an extended Quicksilver/mansion destruction scene, audience-favorite as it might have been. It distracted from the tone. And I suspect the powers-that-be were so used to the temp music that Ottman used for that from Production that they asked him to keep it. I wish it wasn't written for laughs. And that the music was different.

Really wasn't a fan of that scene.

Everything would have to be perfectly in place for such a thing to happen, kinberg so busy full time unable to free any time up to write anything.

At this point bryan singer will probably be the one who could be to busy to come back, and thats if fox decide to try and get him back to direct, kinberg is gonna remain producer either way

They should have kept that initial three-hour version and put it on the Blu-ray, then we needn't ask for an Extended Cut and they needn't spend time/money going back into the studio to rework it.

I'm still up for an Original Uncut Edition though :tm$

I saw this on store yesterday. The box sleeve looks neat. Though I'm waiting for a sale price.

And I would most probably buy it as would many fans. I bought 3 copies of DOFP blu-ray.

Do you mind me asking why? I buy a copy of all superhero movies...but 1 copy.

I bought the blu-ray in Canada when it first came out (with metal pack) that was exclusive to Best Buy.

The second copy was The Rogue Cut (a few months later?) that I picked up when I was on vacation in LA. I would hazard a guess most people on this board probably have these first two.

My third copy I bought as I had the opportunity to visit the Montreal set of Apocalypse and had John Ottman sign it. I made sure to pick up a different cover. I could've gotten a CD signed of the soundtrack of DOFP or even X2 instead but it was hard to find in Montreal at the time.

(So hopefully not as crazy as my original post).

Cinemablend.com has done an article on the 11 X-Men Facts We Learned From The X-Men Apocalypse Commentary and there is Nothing particularly interesting in those 11 facts apart from Singer mentioning the return of the jedi 3rd movie is always the worst apparently wasn't a dig at X3 but just an acknowledgment about how difficult it is to make 3rd movies

Oh and he apparently has left it open that archangel could be alive but we will only find that answer out if the character is ever used again.

good to know. The audio commentary was the only reason why I would have bought this movie.

I like Singer's audio commentaries. They are always interesting. His X2 commentary is the best. It makes one appreciate Xmen 1 and 2 even more after all the restrictions and budget cuts by FOX.

So gooood <3
