I see it as a slight contradiction and no I'm not getting my panties in a bunch because it hardly detracts from the movie in any way. To me batman won knowingly murder someone but then again if he's trying to save innocent peoples lives abs some bad guys get mangled so be it. I don't really see how it can be helped. In surprised this is really that huge if an issue. I guess I'm easier to satisfy about a fictional comic book movie character though. Perhaps that's my flaw. I admit it.

He also "let people die" just by not taking off his mask and turning himself in. Technically, just by being batman, people are dying. Not sure exactly how far we are supposed to go with this. To quote Peter griffin the whole argument is rather "shallow and pedantic"

There is a difference between Batman directly committing manslaughter, and The Joker using Batman as an excuse to kill people.

What would have had batman do at that moment with that truck?! I'm trying to see your pov which I can to a certain extent I just feel your taken it a bit too literally. I mean in batmans line of work there will be casualties wither directly or indirectly attributed to him. Of course he does his best not to kill but when nor really given a choice, he's gotta do what he's gotta do to protect the innocent lives.

To start with, alarms should have sounded in Jonah Nolan's head the second he wrote the scene like that.

If they had, then he would have reworked it to allow for Batman to take down the garbage truck in a way that wouldn't have such a deadly result.

But as infamous pointed out, I guess cool crashes take precedent, regardless of their damage to the character's integrity.

Same with Two-Face. When Two-Face had a gun, Batman could've knocked it out of his hands with a Batarang, instead of throwing him off the ledge. It's just how the writers wanted it to be in the movie.

Ok. Well I see that y'all look way harder at certain things that probably don't occur to 99 % of the moviegoing public. Perhaps that's why "bells didn't go off" in nolans head when writing the scene. " oh that's right, all the anal retentive comic fans will throw a hissy fit if I have batman ram the truck head on, let's change it". While I understand your views to an extent, I still say this is ridiculously
nit picking and absolutely takes nothing away from the movie.

So it looks like the Batwing was responsible for the truck drop! Or it's at least part of the action sequence...

I just got back from set. I was there for 10 hours today. Saw quite a lot so I'll try to detail as much as I can.

When I got there they had the entire grand ave blocked off but I watched Banes truck at street level as it headed presumably into the drop from inside a lobby of a building. Then I went down on some intersection of 1st and another street behind the West Promenade hotel and talked to a security guard who was real friendly and told me he had see Morgan Freeman on set. I saw Gary Oldman's stunt double (which I tweeted about as Gary Oldman and then realized it was a double upon seeing a pap's zoom lense photo). The crew was standing around the Bane "bomb trucks" (thats what they called them on set). Some Mercs were present. Nolan was eating an ice cream cone and his kids were on set as well. I moved up back to grand ave and watched for a while outside the Disney Hall building and saw several takes of the Bane truck driving in circles around the hole where it was supposed to fall through. Then they moved the Batwing out onto Grand Ave to face the truck. Some gunfire took place and the truck was smoking. Several Gotham cars like Cabs, etc were present and covered in snow. I got REAL close to the bomb truck and I have some close pics of it to post soon.
