I still don't think Bats will deliberately try too kill the person(s) inside the truck. He is trying to stop the truck at almost all costs. Kinda like how he flipped a truck with Joker inside potentially killing him, but moments later refused to kill him with a head-on drive.

That's his rule to me. He will not deliberately and directly execute anybody.

See how he killed Dent for example. He tried to stop him and ended up killing him in the process. But didn't deliberately mean to kill him. And if he would have the chance to save him from the fall, like he did with Joker, he would have.

Oh god back to this? keep it out of the thread people. this is thread is strictly for the L.A. TDKR shoot.

Looks like they're still doing location shooting next week if this is true:

@MikeIsErnie
Mike Tanner

"Magnus Rex" is filming at my work next week.

This is what was set up outside of the SB building earlier today:

thats in the ally behind the SB. they had lights on the side street(7th) and more lighting on spring.. with snow on the floor.

Obviously Catwoman crawls through those tubes. Some sort of cat lair Bruce built for her.

That may just be a big air conditioning unit. If they're filming in warehouses it can get hot under all the lights, these things can be switched on and off to pump cold air over the set.

This part is interesting.. A bit about what happens after the truck drop.

I need to memorize this for when anit-TDK peeps decide to bring up the whole Batman kills people rule.

But how would you argue the Ras death case?

For me, he couldn't save Ra's. In TDK, his cowl barely could save both him and Rachel. With someone as big as Ra's, plus the speed of the train, they would have both died.

This seems to be consistent with the comics as well. He'd never shot someone or throw them off a bridge. But if there was a bomb about to go off in the room with a bad guy and a hostage, he'd grab the hostage and leave the bad guy.

If I remember the end of BB clearly, Batman says something like "I'm not going to kill you. But I don't have to save you either."

This is stretching the "Batman doesn't kill" thing pretty flipping thin. Batman knows how high they are on the train, he also knows how fast it is going and what is going to happen because he was the one who got Gordon to shoot out the suporting towers.

Batman is not stupid and he knows that the likelihood of Ras surviving is pretty close to 0%

Doesn't make him a murderer, but it does blur the line a lot.

He says "I won't kill you. But I don't have to save you". Beautiful scene.

When you delve into these kinds of ethical dilemmas, most philosophers will differentiate between actions that actively and passively result in death. Batman leaving Ra's to die would be an example of passively allowing someone to die. You could make the case that Batman, as a character, should want to save everyone, regardless of how good or bad they are, but then again you could also argue that this iteration of Batman's "one rule" specifically refers to not actively killing anyone. That's how I interpret it... That he won't actively kill.

For instance, you know Batman isn't capable of preventing all crime in Gotham. Certainly he has to pick and choose in accordance to his best judgment. His decisions might be utilitarian, meaning he aims for the greatest good for the greatest number of people. In fact, in TDK he uses this sort of logic in discounting "one man," the Joker, because he thought bringing down the whole mob was the more pressing issue. Anyway, because Batman has to choose between crimes, you could say that he passively allows for certain bad things to happen. Those could include some people's deaths.

great post. It reminds me of that scene in the last chapter of The Cult, where Batman let a woman be killed, because he says trying to save her would be suicide.

He says "I won't kill you. But I don't have to save you". Beautiful scene.

This is a perfect scene. He's saying that he wont kill... but he's also NOT gonna "save him". Something that is so refreshing after 6 years of Clark asking for someone to "Saaaaaavvvvvvveeeeeee meeeeee." on Smallville. It shows the inherent difference between Batman and Superman...
Or did I just read waayy too much into that?:cwink:

Give me proof he is.

Sorry, the burden of proof is on you. Logic dictates a man going over 100 mph off of a train track and plunging 100 feet and crashing and burning will be dead. So no, you give me proof he isn't.

A mortal man would die. But is Ra's mortal? I know it's not "Nolanlike" to a supernatural character, but I'm still not convinced we'll only see Liam as as small cameo in a dream or something.

Sorry. :woot:
