Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

I was actually just thinking this week that we never mention a time of day the fights start. I was thinking of adding that to the matches; for, a match at 12:00 am is quite different from a match at 12:00 pm.

Anyone have any thoughts if they'd like this or not?

I think all matches should start at 9:00 am just like a normal work day....

And, have it be on a Monday, so you feel extra crappy?

Ok, guys. I'll give you this one chance. Before I own you all, if you can all agree that I'm going to whip each and everyone of your butts, we can just end this contest now and declare me the winner. And, since you all are going to be losers, maybe I'll send each of you a copy of a Youngblood comic to wipe your tears with.
And get skin cancer? I tihnk not. I guess I don't have any matches this time, at least I don't tihnk...

I thought of a rule you guys should tihnk about using next time. If someone doesn't vote before the deadline their characters have handicaps in their next set of mathes.;)

Make it a Badrock and you have yourself a deal mister!!!

And as for the time of day thing, I think we sure probably have it a set time for this tourney, as we already started it. I'm saying that because otherwise we'll have to name time each week, and though I trust you, I don't want anyone coming in saying you picked a certain time for a certain character fighting that week. I think it'd be the same type of situation as the location.

So I think for this tourney it should be the beginning of the day. Push come to shove, we may be able to say that one week is day and the next is night, and just go back and forth every other week. Thoughts?

Yeah, something for next season, maybe. Yet, here is what I was also thinking: The matches each week always start at the same time, but the location determines the time. We can say in the US a match starts at 9 am...but, if the location is Transia, of course, it wouldn't be daylight there. So, we don't necessarily effect the time, the loacation does. For, as we start our matches at roughly the same time every week; so would the world where these matches take place.

And I was wondering since when characters know about the other characters (such as Hank knowing Jan's facing Hogun) also being in the tournament? I thought it was all very much contained, and folks were pretty much isolated otherwise.
Quoted for being the last post on the previous page.

I say since it's a duel of sorts, we do it like the Wild West. All matches are at high noon...

Sorry, Harlekin. I didn't see your last post on the previous page. Would another character know about another character's matches during that week? Doubtful it's ever played a part in the tournament before. JH can decide about that, as it's my match. But, I will say that's why I made two opening debates.

The second debate was in my mind; but, I also picture these things like a comic book in my head....that's where the first debate came from. Most of it still fits, as with Jack Of Hearts trying to get into Hank's head. I try to play out how these people are interacting throughout the week, though. And, with this triangle, I just saw this scenario. If there is a prep-time, and Jan and Hank just so happen to have a battle the same week, I saw them both confiding in one another. (It's just like using the resources around you. Using the resources, the knowledge that you're in a fight would be told to someone, I would think. And, Jan and Hank would both talk to each other...unless they were fighting together.) I never saw any specific mention that we put in the rules. I know we can't use our past victories in future matches...but, not sure if I'm stretching things a bit.

Like I said, I'll let JH decide.

I was just thinking about the posts in here last week about wishing an opponent would debate sooner. I think the reason that we feel that way at times is that after you feel like you've done your research, that you've invested yourself into the match, you are in a zone. And, as the days tick away, that "zone" starts to fade.

Last week, I really wasn't feeling the Ezekial/Magnus match. I knew I was going to get owned....so, it took me 24 hours longer to put anything up. (Basically, it was a hail mary.) Now, I'm seething at the bit. OOoooo, I love debating time!!!!

Ok, I saw where the factor of time is taken into account for this week. As there wasn't a ruling before the contest started about what time contests start, I will make some executive decisions when applicable. The battle in question is Topher vs. Gladiator II. Now, we clearly cannot have the rule where ever battle begins at 9 AM; because, that would make Topher as useless as Beak. So, the person with God-like powers who is running this contest clearly would not drop Topher into a setting, having him die right off the bat due to the effects of the sun. The contest will start at 12:00 AM. (I chose this time for two reasons...it gives Zoken a chance to fight his battle, but also doesn't give him all night to achieve what he needs. Basically, he has 6 hours to work with. I believe this is a fair ruling for both parties.)

If there are any complaints to this ruling, feel free to voice your opinions. Next season, if we decide on having times of day during each week, then it's a rule that cannot be effected. (And, we'd probably eliminate any vampire from the contest.)

I said long ago that we cannot use people as resources, so I think that can apply here. Basically, when it comes to preptime or anytime in this tourney, it's one on one. I've always kinda had the thought in mind that people are pulled for their fight, and when done they're returned with a whiped mind, but when they return for round 2, they remember the tourney again. Something like that.

But anyhow, I'd say no to having other people around for your preptime.

(I hope that answers it okay. I'm actually in a hurry and had to read quickly. If there's more I need to read or if I misread what's above, let me know)

That's cool. I'll go make my adjustments to the argument. Most of it still holds up pretty good, anyway.

we said that mini's happening right now don't count but what about the current arc of an ongoing such as uncanny x-men?

ANSWER ME! :cmad: :yay:

It wouldnt count either. If its happening now. Its a common sense answer.

yes but what about arcs that finished just as the contest was starting, like in the first week or so. Especially when you take into account something like runaways which is behind the main marvel timeline atm

If the arc was going on, the day the contest started, none of that would count. For example, if Havok found out he had Omega level blasts that could disintegrate anything in an issue that came out right when the COntest started, as part of an ongoing arc, I wouldnt be able to use that.
