Egads! Do you ever have a bank heart attack?

This morning, I go to the grocery store by my work place, and I get a little bit of food for the day. The total came to $5.20. I slide my debit card, punch in my numbers, and it comes back saying, "Insufficient Funds." I just stand there with my mouth open. I'm telling the guy I always buy my food from, "No...I know there's money in there." I slide again: "Insufficient Funds."

So, then I have to wait for the banks to open. Tap, tap, tap...two hours later, I found out my direct deposit checks were going into an old account I closed out. Ugggg....I hate when bank problems make my heart stop!!!

I know exactly how you feel...Two weeks ago I went online to see if my paycheck had posted into my bank account yet. Instead of seeing my check, I see that I am somehow over $5000 in debt. It turns out that someone got a hold of all my info and charged up a storm on my check card. I eventually got it all back, but I had to call every place they charged and tell them to stop payment.

What made it worse was one of the places he spent $500 on was a donation to the American Cancer Society, so I had to be an ******* and tell them that they weren't getting their donation. Seriously, what the hell kind of criminal steals someone's identity to make charitable donations?

I get that a lot but usually 'cause there's no money in my account! :cwink:

It's weird, it always seems to happen the day after I make my weekly run for comics...:whatever:

OK, late tonight, after Survivor, I will be working on getting the four new threads started. For some reason, my work computer doesn't work well with Photobucket; so, it's better for me to use my home computer for that. So, when everyone logs on tomorrow, they should be able to start their debates.

REMEMBER, you cannot have your first debate be a response to your opponent's debate if they happen to put up a response to the match-up first. So, it's best you have your opening debate worked on before you read what your opponent has to say. After you get that first (at least a paragraph) debate posted, feel free to argue, bicker and debate your match until you're blue in the face...or, until Tuesday comes along for voting time.

ALSO, no personal attacks. We do not allow it to get so extreme that one person is calling another an "idiot" or anything like this. If you don't believe a word your opponent is saying, or if you believe they are feeding the reader false information, just state what you believe is true and refute it with facts.

More points to remember:

As an impartial observer to the debate, you cannot help another person with their debate. BUT, if you need clarification to what someone is saying, that's ok. Sometimes it's a fine line between things that are ok to ask or not ok. If you have a question about it, just PM me, Wiegeabo or JH. (The only time you will be allowed to give your opinion on a match-up is when you cast your vote. Many people will give one sentence to say why they chose one character over the other. Just don't make it a speech to try and convince everyone else before the votes come in.)

Last season, I don't think we had a single problem with anyone trying to get votes. But, I will repeat, you cannot have your friends come and vote for your character. If they want to observe the rules, and they can be impartial, that's one thing. But, don't go begging for votes.

Feel free to add biographies and pictures to your debate. I will only provide one picture and one biography. Both might not be the best I can find, but I'm not spending hours trying to perfect your matches. That's up to you.

I will say it again. This will piss you off at times. But, a good debator lets everything go after the week is over, and they prepare for their next set of matches the following week. It wasn't unheard of that various participants felt like quitting at times last season, or just giving up. Remember, everyone has a bad week, and in the end, it's just a game.

A couple of things I need clarified. Do our characters know the loaction before hand? Do they have any info on their opponents? Where is the first match?

As a general rule, any information that your character would have on an individual, or any information database they'd have access to, is what you're limited on. Of course, members of the Avengers wouldn't have access to X-Men mansion data, and visa versa. I haven't heard back from JH concerning a couple questions from yesterday; so, let me get back to you on more specifics.

The first week's matches are going to be on the Blue Side of the Moon.

Robinhood?

Okay guys... about location. If I'm remembering correctly, it's the same as your opponant. Your character knows as much about it as they have presonally learned of it, or of what their recources can teach them about it during the 24 hour preptime. They know where they're fighting, as if they were told they were fighting 'on the moon' or 'in New York' etc, but they don't know the details of it, or the details we add to it (such as in New York during a Sentinel Attack) Now I had told Phaed in the PM I sent him that we could choose to have our preptime on location, but that we cannot do anything to effect the location until the match starts. I might not be recalling that correctly though, so correct me if I'm wrong. The purpose of it is so a person can get to know the land before the battle begins. This is good for strategists and such. However, you cannot see or confront your foe until the match actually begins. If Phaed and W disagrees with all that, then I'm open to just nix it and say no contact with location until match begins.

Personally, I don't like the idea of people going to the location beforehand; simply because someone like Reed Richards can get to the Blue Area of the Moon, but obviously someone like Stiltman wouldn't be able to. I do think they should know where they are going, though.

I'm conflicted with getting access to the battlefield ahed of time. I think we did it last year, or at least some people did it last time.

As for knowledge about opponents, it should be clear that all your character gets is their opponent's name (and picture, I guess). That's it. With that they have to do research with resources they would normally have access to. If they don't have any resources that would help them, then they're going to the battle blind.

On the topic of opponent research, we did have somekind of fudge factor with common knowledge. I think we could allow newspaper and magazine articles that covered an opponent, even though it may not have complete information about them. And there was something weird dealing with comics in She-Hulk comics...

Ok, the ruling are you know where you are going, you have the information on the site. I don't think you should be able to walk all around it and such...just doesn't seem right, especially since two characters battling could bump into each other.

Information your character would have is simply and name and a picture. From there, a character like Spider-Girl would have information more available in her timeline on a 616 character than a current character would have on her. (Yet, looking at the name and costume, a character might get the general idea on who they are fighting.)

LOCATION REMINDER:

This week's battles take place on the Blue Area of the Moon.

An artificial, self-sustaining Earthlike environment on the far side of The Moon, the Blue Area was created roughly 100,000 years ago as part of a competition between two alien races, the Kree and the Cotati. The Skrulls moderated this contest, whose goal was to determine the worthiness of both races by discovering which could create a more suitable habitation. The Skrulls changed later on, becoming warmongers. The Cotati won the contest by creating a long-term sustainable ecosystem, but the Kree angrily rebelled and overthrew the Skrulls, stole their starship, and initiated the millennia-long conflict now known as the Kree-Skrull War.
Its Role in Storylines
The Blue Area has played a pivotal role in many events of the Marvel Universe. It was the site of the first battle between the Fantastic Four and the Red Ghost. It is also the home of Uatu the Watcher. For many years, it was the location of Attilan, home city of the Inhumans. But it is perhaps best known as the site of the epic ending to the Dark Phoenix Saga, where, to prevent herself from endangering any more lives, Jean Grey committed suicide.

Debating will end on Tuesday. You will see me making one all five threads saying debating is over and voting may begin in dark letters. (Really, you can't miss it.) As stated, we will have two days to vote, with voting ending on Thursday with the same type of announcement.

The one difference this season over last season is this. After debating is over, it's over. Last year, people would continue to debate right after voting began, sometimes giving someone "the last word." This season, everyone has four full days to say what they want. Don't wait for the last minute.

Hey guys, thanks for the list. I actually got some decent characters. For the ones I don't know anything about I will have to do some research.:xmen:

A reminder for those interested:

On Friday the 13th, the following participants have characters in matches:

Darthphere, Ahura Mazda = 5
Zoken, Phaedrus45, Hellstormer = 3
Wolverine25th, Trigger, Midnight Ice, Hippy Fascist = 2
Annoying Silence, Wiegeabo, Harlekin, JewishHobbit, Kytrigger = 1
Iceman/Psylocke, DarkHellRider = 0

Hey, is there a set time Tuesday when debating ends, or at least a gneral time frame? I was just wondering in case I want to make a closing argument whether I should do it Monday night, or if I will have time Tuesday...
