Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

The videos have been on youtube for months.

Actually it was the other way round, my dog was the aggressor.

I knew you were the submissive type. Did he pee on you when he was done like the stain that you are :oldrazz:

Check out the videos.

You should put your energy and big talk into your debates rather than the discussion thread. As I said earlier the only reason your opponents haven't bothered to put up a debate is that they know that your arguments alone will guarantee them victory. :)

Not everyone gets the chance to go on the computer, and it does take a little more than 2 minutes if you want to put up more than 2/3 lines. Seriously, I get your point. It's pissed me off before too, but not everybody that posts on a monday does it for the cheap tactics of it. That's all I'm pointing out. Some days you just don't wanna bother, or don't have the time.
I agree to an extent. I don't think I'd always be in the mood to reply (especially to a long response) every time I log onto the Hype.

Maybe the last word should go to whoever makes the second rebuttal. In my match with you we've both put up an initial debate. As I've made the first rebuttal, it would make sense if you get the option of having the last word (if you choose) on the Monday night. That way both debators get an even number of arguments.

That wouldn't be adebate, a debate is supposed to allow for back and forth. The best debates I've read so far have been ahuras as they are well rounded and show that he cares about their characters as he keep coming back to the debate. Two statments per match would be lame

No, I meant an unlimited amount of statements, just that whoever makes the second rebuttal has the choice of having the last word if it gets to late on a Monday. You can still continuously debate up till then.

Yeah but that's like saying that all athletes should be forced to have a uniform amount of training time before competing in the olympics. At the end of the day the guy who wants it more will spend more time on here arguing his point and if they choose to do that then let them I say.

Have you not read my previous posts? I can't because my opponents haven't submitted their initial statments yet :whatever: (We really need some kind of mongoloid smilie for people like you :oldrazz: )

There's no limit to how much you cram into each of the individual posts though. Put a couple of pages in if it helps/if you have time. I thought this might help with your who gets the last word problem.

That's exactly what I was explaining......the reason they didn't submit initial statements is that they know that your initial statement will be sufficient to guarantee them victory. :yay:

yes but the point is not who gets the last word, it's more to do with the fact that my opponents have ages to look into my argument whereas I won't see their's till monday night. In essence they get two moredays than me to prepare

OK, Slow down!

First, this was brought up during Season 1. JewishHobbit and I already discussed it then, and realized that the weekend is a difficult time to post arguments for some people. (Or, you will find out, things come up, and when they do, it all seems to happen ON THE WEEKEND. Even thought I was able to get my two debates out this weekend, there was a good chance I wasn't going to be able to do that.) We didn't think it was a fair rule to establish. Also, rules were already dictated at the beginning of the season, and we don't like to change any rule once the game has begun.

Now, before every season, we take a good amount of time to go over the rules. I don't believe this was brought up at that time with those of us who came up with what we'd like to see changed. For Season 3, that can be addressed again. (Or, we can change the timing of things. Maybe have debating starting on Thursday - Monday, instead.)

SECOND, there are a few instances where PERSONAL ATTACKS come real close to the line. I know it's all in fun, but some take things more personal that others. This is a long game, and if someone feels ridiculed in their attempts (which, I felt everyone's done a pretty good job), there is a chance they will end up quitting. I don't want to see that. Again, for example, I had a really crappy day yesterday....about as crappy of a day I could ever have. Not only did I lose a friend, by the time the day was over, it became apparent another friend of mine didn't want me in the group she was with. So, in my mind, I lost two friends yesterday. If I had that kind of crappy day, and came on here and saw someone making fun of me, I'd probably leave.

Please, I beg of you guys, think before you type. I love joking around. Just remember, not everyone will get the joke. This is only a game, but, it can be a rough, emotional game.

Ok, I have to go out and get stuff for my brother's birthday today, then I'm taking my kids to a Halloween party. Be good, guys. Take a deep breath. Remember, those of us who vote and post our debates will know if you don't get a chance to refute a late debate. Plus, a good opening debate, if you think about it, would be enough to get your point across. The rest is just our b.s. trying to get the other person to admit defeat.

I was thinking, why cant we keep debating right through the voting process? Really, were suppose to just sit there while our character gets steamrolled by a possible character that it beneath them.

ok, in big letters this time :oldrazz:

your post implies that one or more of your characters are likely to lose a match against an inferior opponent. However, you have ample time to debate beforehand so why would you be worried about this?

answer: you suck :oldrazz: :woot: :oldrazz:

Its a hypothetical question, it goes to the same situation if you feel your character is getting steamrolled by a character just ebcause of name recognition, i.e. Nova beating Heimdall by a landslide. Heimdall shouldve gotten more votes but since no debating is allowed through the voting process Ahura was not able to make any more moves towards garnering more votes.

God, you can be an idiot sometimes.

thank god I'm pretty :yay:

This isnt a presidential election but campaigning is done up until the last second the polls are over, im just saying, it could be somethign to think about, and might eliminate some ties.

During season 1, we actually had debating continue through the voting process. A lot of participants ended up not liking it; but, since we made it a rule to begin the game, we weren't going to change it. After the season ended, though, we made the rule change due to an overwhelming popular vote.

The reason the change was made is very similiar to why Hippy Fascist brought up wanting an opening debate to be posted by Sunday. Many, many debates didn't begin until I posted, "Voting May Begin." This led to two problems. One, the person who debated felt the final word was swaying votes. Second, after reading someone's rebuttal or debate, people wanted to change their votes; but, one of our rules was "Once you post your vote, you can't change it."

Now, we've simply eliminated two problems. When you make your vote, that's it. You should have no reason to change it....only if you accidentally put the wrong name. (We do allow for a quick change if you made a mistake, now.) And, everyone knows they won't get blindsided during the voting time with a debate.

I will say that I've said if someone makes a last minute debate, I will extend the time before people can vote. And, if you log on and I haven't said, "voting may begin," just PM me that you want a little time to make a rebuttal.

People obviously disagree on various things but I suppose if you guys have already been through a whole season and have had a consultative process to review the rules, we should stick to whatever you've decided, whether we like it or not, and bring up suggested changes for next season (if we decide to play).

I appreciate that this must be a headache to organise.
