Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Phaed & POWdER - Very to sorry to hear of your losses. :csad:

Everyone deals with this kind of thing in their own way so I can fully understand both POWdER's decision to withdraw from the contest and Phaedrus' decision to get involved. I know there's not much I can do to help but you'll both be in my wishes and prayers.

As for the subject of pity votes, I've noticed that some people have obviously been voting for Hippy on the basis that he is without doubt a complete clown and social reject in real life. I'm sure the sentiment is appreciated but c'mon people, enough is enough. You're making him look good.

Also Harlekin - what happened with your ban? Good to have you back in the fold, dude. The prospect of reading through hours of debates without some comedy relief from your attempts is just not the same. :yay:

And Jewhobs, sounds like you had a good time. Just keep telling yourself the bath was really a jacuzzi and you'll be fine

just in case anyone hasn't seen it yet, new leaked spiderman 3 trailer!

:word:
WOW, that's so much better than the recent trailer. The symbiote looks great

Lots of reading to do, again. I guess I lied when I said you only have to give about 10 minutes a week to the contest; because it takes a good hour to read everything fully.

We're still having a few debates going on. I'll give everyone 3-4 more hours for rebuttals before I start the voting.

I keep waiting for the next batch of votes to come in.

Remember, a vote for Famine is a vote for democracy!

A vote for Lady Deathstrike is a vote for Communism!!!

For those interested, here is who has match-ups this Friday:

*Hellstormer, Wolverine25th = 4
Darthphere, DarkHellRider, JewishHobbit = 3
Kytrigger, Hippy Fascist, Iceman/Psylocke, Midnight Ice, Ahura Mazda, Powderman = 2
Trigger, Wiegeabo, Harlekin = 1
Phaedrus45, Zoken = 0

(A "*" means the person has two characters fighting each other.)

Famine is a terrible thing, apart from their cool mohicans these children have nothing, they are miserable and I don't think even my opponent can deny, a large part of their problems are due to famine. Areyou sure you want to vote for this...

I quote my opponent. I don't know why he find Mohicans miserable; but, from his own words, he wants you to vote for me.

Ah, that'd be the first time I only have ONE match. Let's hope it's a good one.

I'm thinking of a rule for next season.

I noticed the person with only two posts voting in Thread 1. Putting myself in ky's shoes, I would be slightly upset that my character ends up losing by a vote, possibly from someone who didn't understand the rules to our competition.

So, what I'm thinking (and, I would like to solicit other people's opinions) is that maybe we should have a post requirement...it just shows that you've been here for a while, and it would give the people who are getting votes a better feeling if their characters lose by a vote.

I thought about doing that multiple times over at the DC/MArvel thread 200 would be the best IMHO.

I say, if it doesn't effect any outcomes this week, or in the last weeks, then we should implement it now. Then we won't have to worry about it this season.

wouldn't it be easier to implement a rule of either you vote in all threads or your votes don't count in any. Most people that just vote rather than taking part just tend to vote in one or two threads and none of the others

I like this part that it's all or none.

As for the post count rule, I think it's definately a good idea for next season (or like weigeabo said after this week if it doesn't affect any previous outcomes).

And while it would definately suck if I did lose to one vote like that, I understand it's not in the rules right now. (also, it's not like Durok is a huge character and a person would vote for them by name recognition alone like wolverine or something).

I could've sworn we had a rule like this last time. I'm certainly in favour.

Well, I wouldn't do the "all or nothing." Many times, a participant forgets to vote in a thread or two. For me, there votes should count, even if they have a brain fart.

As for implementing it right away, I really want to await JH's decision. If he wants, I'll go along with it.

This sounds like a good idea anything that Ive been involved with that required post count has worked great.

Well, this is looking to be an awesome week, with the exception of Daredevil. :(

I have to go out for a load of meetings today so won't have time to read any debates in the next 8 hours or so. Feel free to end the voting on time without my votes if necessary.

The post count rule is one way of doing it. The main concern here is that people vote who don't know the rules and don't read the debates. I remember clicking on this thread last year (I would probably have had enough posts at the time to beat a set limit) and voting a couple of times. OK I did read the debates at the time but out of interest, not because I knew that I was supposed to.

We don't seem to get too many new voters so maybe it's worth sending them a PM to check that they understand the rules. This will be more of an issue in the later rounds when people's favourite characters go up against each other and matches are closer.

Also I fully understand the idea of waiting till next season to introduce new rules and this should definitely be the case if even one person involved with the tournament raises an objection. However, in the case of a rule change that benefits everybody and raises no concerns, I would suggest implementing the change sooner.

Ignore the above - I'm back and will read them now.

I will state my poibnt of view after votes are over because I am forcibly biaised.

Just so everyone knows, I'm waiting just a little bit of time to see if Iceman responds to my PM. If I hear back from him that his votes are coming soon, then I'll hold off on announcing voting as over.

Well, either way, I don't think it should affect anything that has already happened, including this weeks debates and votes. The only way I would object to a new person voting (without this rule already in place) was if his post was "Durok because he's teh awesome!!!11!!" or something like that, which wasn't the case.

Ok, voting will end once Iceman gets in his last vote.

(you can cut the tension with a knife!)
