Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

More than likely, even if I have the best record, I'll give out comics to the person with the second best record...or, the person with the best record in round 2 will just get a double-prize, like I did with the booby prize last season.

And, I think if you win anything, JH, I could get you some of those Silver Surfer comics. (Heck, I think I have 2 or 3 Silver Surfer #50.)

Just wanted everyone to know I'm slightly adjusting a rule.

If a contestant has two characters that are facing each other, it's up to that contestant to inform Phaedrus45 of who he wants to advance. If Phaedrus45 does not hear from the contestant, it will be assumed that the character with the most votes advances. Again, you have a week to make your decision know; but, in the situation that something comes up and you cannot get back to inform Phaedrus45, an exception may be made. (But, it will be discussed between JH, Phaed and Wiegeabo whether to make that exception.) The only definite way a change would not be made is if the tournament advances into the next round. At that time, the character with the most votes will definitely advance.

The above rule change is made so contestants who have two characters don't have to bother to let me know who advances if there character wins anyway. They just have to look at the results update to see who won. Also, I have never heard back from Trigger concerning her Meggan versus Zaladane match. She originally wanted Zaladane to advance; but, that was early on, and the voters chose Meggan and let her know they think she's a better character. Now, since she hasn't been around, I don't want to tell her, "Tough luck, you had a week to tell me about who you want," in case some emergency came up. But, if we do get to round 2, then it will definitely stick with Meggan.

If anyone has any concerns about this, or think we should stick with Trigger's first thoughts with going with Zaladane, please voice your opinion.

Thank God for Darthphere. Once he's done, I'll post results. Heck, I don't even care if I lose...rematches suck!!!

I wanted Superskrull to go up against a powerhouse, although maybe not so early in the competition. I'll look forward to the match

I've got a good record so far; but, I know I'm going to lose a lot of characters next round. Plus, I was thinking I didn't mind Dead Girl losing, because I'll be friggin' busy defending all these guys. It's cool to be doing good; but, Round 2 is going to drive me nuts, I think.

Well, you can always take my Grandmother's advice: "Kick 'em in the balls."

Even that would bring down Photon.

He doesn't have balls...I tihnk. Anyway I have a strategy but no one's gonna vote for him and I'll lose my favorite Marvel character ever in round 1 :(

Location:

Subterranea is a fictional realm beneath the earth's surface in the Marvel Comics universe. Subterranea is a system of massive caves and tunnels, some large enough to hold cities, that are inhabited by the various races of Subterraneans. The first recorded entrance to Subterranea was found at Monster Island.

Hey guys, I heard from Trigger, and she wants Zaladane to advance. Adjust your brackets if you're keeping score. (BTW, she's real busy with school right now...that's why we haven't seen her for a while.)

Well, her loss. Meggan is like, totally awesome and stuff.

Holy Crap... I just had like, the most exciting hour of my life! Here in the Cincinnati area we are having major winds. My wife and I work at the Home Depot and she was already there and I was just pulling into the drive way. The first thing I saw was the black tarp part of the ceiling bubbled a good 30 feet on the ceiling. I thought 'holy crap!' so I park and start jogging toward the building to let someone know, and when I get about half way to the building I hear "pop pop pop" and the tarp rips strait in the air and slams back down on the roof and then blows off the back. Scrapnel and chunks of ceiling start flying over the parking lot and over the highway behind it. I was shocked, and then I see people start running and screaming from the building, led by my wonderful, yet cowardly wife. She says "Don't go in there, the roof is coming off" and I say "I know I know" and so I go in (yeah, I'm a guy). People are just standing around all shocked and start explaining what they saw from the inside. Apparently when the wind took the tarp off, it was attached to piping and such, and so suddenly the echoing pops starting pulling all the piping in the ceiling through the ceiling (and some piping wound up in the parking lot). A 15 foot chunk of the ceiling was taken off over the Lumber area and a bunch of other little holes where the piping had been. Some piping that remained got brent and twisted. The main water main busted and gas pipes busted also, so gas started leaking and water was spraying everywhere. We then lost power and it went black, and the generators kicked in giving everything the odd orange glow. And all the while, the ceiling continues to crack and beat down on us.

So those of us employees brave enough to think started running through the building finding customers and directing them to leave immediately. I found a frail old guy toward the back who became completely disoriented and couldn't think properly to do anything, so I had to help him through the building and help him frind his car. We all had to get in our cars as the 911 people showed up and we stayed there for a long while until finally we were all pulled together and told to just go home. I don't know what's going to happen next but I may have some time off, or I may be sent to another store as they work on fixing everything.

Man, it was insane. I totally loved it!!!

Yep, Meggan is very underrated, and was possibly the most powerful member of Excalibur back in the day.

Where is a video camera when you need one??!!?? Sounds crazy. Just glad you and the wife are safe.

Yeah... fortunately, with all the flying debris and falling ceiling, no one was hurt. I wouldn't be so excited if someone had gotten hurt. But man... I'm on an emotional high right now.

Wow, that's pretty intense. Thank God you and everyone else was alright.

You sure do seem to have some crazy things happen to you. We should add your locations to the COM list for battles. We could have battles in the Home Depot as it is falling apart, or in a hot tub that's broken. :p

Oh my God... I just laughed so hard at that. That's great! I'm TOTALLY okay with that. Phaed? :)

It would be safer than Office Depot. Nothing's worse than getting a paper cut.

Anyway, about this week's location, someone PMed me and asked if there are any inhabitants around Subterranea. My answer is as follows: You can expect some strange creatures that will be staying out of the area of the fight; but, it's not suppose to involve a main local, like Mole Man's base. In my mind when we picked this place, it's just like you see in the comics where the Avengers or Fantastic Four are walking around very large caves and caverns. This is a vast series of tunnels that stretch on for miles and miles and miles. I'm not sure any of the contestants could do anything with these creatures...but, if you do try something, it's up to you to convince the voters.

I was thinking about the trading thread, and think one of the reasons it might not have caught on was because it was in the misc. comics section. Do you guys think that many people only go to the DC or Marvel section, and avoid other areas within the SHH? I was wondering if it would be better to have a Marvel trading thread, DC trading thread, and a Independant/Other trading thread.
WHat, there is a trading thread? Cool. I would definitly check it out more if it was based in sections. I too am a serious buyer and have bought from JH.:xmen:

Yup... Ice is also highly recommended. Surprisingly enough, there's a lot of noble and trusthworthy people on the hype regarding that kind of stuff.

Also, just thinking ahead. If someone can negate superhuman abilities... does that work on people that aren't humans... say, Asguardian Gods, or people like Hercules, or Aliens?

That's hard to say. I don't think of Asguardians and such as superhuman abilities. Those people are just born and trained that way. I don't think it would work for them. (Of course, I'm thinking of people like Sif and Thor. This might not hold true to all Asgardian's. Loki would still be able to use magic, because that's not a superhuman ability, either.)

Anyway, I PMed a MOD about a trading thread, and he said as long as the trading isn't being discussed IN THE THREAD, it would be ok. You would have to just make your deals and arrangements through PMs or email.

I'll probably start on this tomorrow, and I'll give people the links.

Today, I'm heading to a comic store in Tacoma to find some holes to fill in my collection. I just won a 5.00 bid on Alien Legion Vol. 1 with ebay...now, I only have to get the hard to find books they made after both series ended.

Im going with my gut here and would like Multiple Man to advance.

That's cool. I wouldn't mind trading stuff, but everything I have I pretty much want to keep. I have some X-Men stuff that I MIGHT trade if the deal was good enough for me, but I doubt it. The main thing I'm thinking of is my 1st Appearances of Gambit... but that's about it. Everything else I kept and won't be getting rid of. I might be willing to get rid of the Uncanny X-Men Omnibus hardback too... but again, the trade would have to be worth my while. But I guess that conversation's for the trading thread.
